Proceeding: 3rd Java International Nursing Conference 2015 “Harmony of Caring and Healing Inquiry for Holistic Nursing Practice; Enhancing Quality of Care”, Semarang, 20-21 August 2015

This is the proceeding of the 3rd Java International Nursing Conference 2015 organized by School of Nursing, Faculty of Medicine, Diponegoro University, in collaboration with STIKES Kendal. The conference was held on 20-21 August 2015 in Semarang, Indonesia. The conference aims to enable educators, students, practitioners and researchers from nursing, medicine, midwifery and other health sciences to disseminate and discuss evidence of nursing education, research, and practices to improve the quality of care. This conference also provides participants opportunities to develop their professional networks, learn from other colleagues and meet leading personalities in nursing and health sciences. The 3rd JINC 2015 was comprised of keynote lectures and concurrent submitted oral presentations and poster sessions. The following themes have been chosen to be the focus of the conference: (a) Multicenter Science: Physiology, Biology, Chemistry, etc. in Holistic Nursing Practice, (b) Complementary Therapy in Nursing and Complementary, Alternative Medicine: Alternative Medicine (Herbal Medicine), Complementary Therapy (Cupping, Acupuncture, Yoga, Aromatherapy, Music Therapy, etc.), (c) Application of Inter-professional Collaboration and Education: Education Development in Holistic Nursing, Competencies of Holistic Nursing, Learning Methods and Assessments, and (d) Application of Holistic Nursing: Leadership & Management, Entrepreneurship in Holistic Nursing, Application of Holistic Nursing in Clinical and Community Settings

MindMusic: Brain-Controlled Musical Improvisation

MindMusic explores a new form of creative expression through brain controlled musical improvisation. Using EEG technology and a musical improviser system, Impro-Visor (Keller, 2018), MindMusic engages users in musical improvisation sessions controlled with their brainwaves. Brain-controlled musical improvisation offers a unique blend of mindfulness meditation, EEG biofeedback, and real-time music generation, and stands to assist with stress reduction and widen access to musical creativity

A tool for enhancing MetaMap performance when annotating clinical guideline documents with UMLS concepts

We developed a tool that integrates the National Library of Medicine's MetaMap software with GATE, an open-source text an- alytics framework. The tool allows non-ASCII encoded documents of numerous formats to be annotated with UMLS concepts. We created a GATE pipeline to chunk cardiovascular disease guideline text into default segments (blank-line delimited), XML element content, sentences and phrases, which were sequentially submitted to MetaMap for annotation. XML element, sentence and phrase chunking allowed term extraction and mapping to be completed in around 1/3 of the time taken with de- fault chunking, although with slight loss of accuracy (F1.0s=0.94-0.99). However, phrase chunking allows more complex input to be processed in real time, which is not possible with the other approaches. We discuss the results in relation to use of MetaMap's --term processing option for generating pre- and post-coordinated mappings from composite phrases

CORPORAL PUNISHMENT IN SCHOOLS BASED ON THE STUDENT’S CULTURAL VALUES

Corporal punishment in schools has a common effect in a growing fear of teachers among school children. There were 104 students of English Language and Literature Department in Jenderal Soedirman University participated in this survey taking an optional subject called ‘Teaching English as a Foreign Language’ (TEFL). A survey was conducted to ask students opinion about any kinds of corporal punishment they experienced when they were at schools. The result showed that many students received corporal punishment from their teachers. Students knew that the government prohibited teachers from corporal punishment. However, some respondents thought that those kinds of corporal punishment were for their own good. In view of this, students believed that a teacher was someone who had the right to educate the students to maintain their discipline by giving cultural punishment

The Urban-rural Dichotomy in the Indonesian Documentaries Nona Nyonya? and Untuk Apa?

The media play a pivotal role in the democratization process in Indonesia and this is among others apparent in the surge of films, both fiction and documentaries that have been produced after the end Suharto\u27s decades of control over the media. It is important to note, however, that compared with fiction films, the documentary genre remains rather unpopular in Indonesia. Indonesian documentary films struggle to depict stories of the subaltern and those living in the “periphery” in order for them to be seen and heard by the greater masses and by those in power – the ones in the “centre” or Jakarta. This paper discusses the connection between urban and rural voices and its impact in the documentary films Nona nyonya? (Miss mrs?, 2008) and Untuk apa? (What\u27s the point?, 2008) produced by Kalyana Shira Films, an organization well-known for its work on gender issues using film as medium. Departing from the notion that the film industry itself is still largely Jakarta-centred, this article focuses on the way urban settings and voices are used to create rhetoric, and the impact of the domination of these urban voices over the rural ones

TWILIGHT AND INDONESIAN YOUNG ADULT FICTION TUILET’: A PARODY

This paper examines how Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight is parodied by the Indonesian contemporary young adult Tuilet. By using theory of parody, this paper is expected to provide a critical analysis of the teen novel which have similarities and differences in the title and character names of Meyer’s twilight. By applying the theory of parody, it will be seen how far the influence of the novel Twilight on Indonesian young adult fiction. Through cultural texts written for young readers, it will also be seen whether there is a shift in language use, especially among the youth or just simply the demands of consumerism

BUILDING CROSS – CULTURAL COMPETENCE TO IMPROVE ENGLISH EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION

This paper is intended to expose the importance of cross-cultural competenc to improve English oral communication effectively. The background of this paper is due to my teaching experience in English Department of School of Bumiayu Islamic Teacher Training. (CCU)course is offered to the students in the sixth semester. To know the students’ knowledge about cross-culture, in the begining of semester session, before they got the materials, the writer instructed them to make a group of two or three, then practiced communicating in English. The number of the students in a class is thirty five, so there are about twelve groups. Each group was then extended one topic to perform in the role play. The writer took several topics from the guidance book entitled ‘Business Across Culture: Effective Communication Straegies’. Based on practicing to communicate in English with foreigners through role plays, most students still performed/showed Javanese or moslem attitude in which are not appropriate with foreign’s culture. Meanwhile, the cultural competence will affect practically some aspect of language use. It can influence the foreigners’ respond whether or not they accept the communicator’s attitude. Negative or inappropriate impression of English learners of course can inhibit the effective communication
