The protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights for digital media has become an important issue in many countries of the world. There is increase in the popularity and accessibility of the Internet to record, edit, replicate and broadcast multimedia content which has necessitated a high demand to protect digital information against illegal uses, manipulations and distributions. Digital watermarking technique which is the process used to embed proprietary information into multimedia digital signal provides a robust solution to this problem. This paper reviews different aspects and techniques of digital watermarking for protecting digital contents. It also explores different application areas of digital watermarking such as copyright protection, broadcast monitoring, integrity protection etc.Facultad de Informátic

Cryptography coupled with information hiding has received increased attention in recent years and has become a major research theme because of the importance of protecting encrypted information in any Electronic Data Interchange system in a way that is both discrete and covert. One of the essential limitations in any cryptography system is that the encrypted data provides an indication on its importance which arouses suspicion and makes it vulnerable to attack. Information hiding of Steganography provides a potential solution to this issue by making the data imperceptible, the security of the hidden information being a threat only if its existence is detected through Steganalysis. This paper focuses on a study methods for hiding encrypted information, specifically, methods that encrypt data before embedding in host data where the ‘data’ is in the form of a full colour digital image. Such methods provide a greater level of data security especially when the information is to be submitted over the Internet, for example, since a potential attacker needs to first detect, then extract and then decrypt the embedded data in order to recover the original information. After providing an extensive survey of the current methods available, we present a new method of encrypting and then hiding full colour images in three full colour host images with out loss of fidelity following data extraction and decryption. The application of this technique, which is based on a technique called ‘Stochastic Diffusion’ are wide ranging and include covert image information interchange, digital image authentication, video authentication, copyright protection and digital rights management of image data in general

Digital watermarking was introduced as a result of rapid advancement of networked multimedia systems. It had been developed to enforce copyright technologies for cover of copyright possession. This technology is first used for still images however recently they need been developed for different multimedia objects like audio, video etc. Watermarking, that belong to the information hiding field, has seen plenty of research interest. There's a lot of work begin conducted in numerous branches in this field. The image watermarking techniques might divide on the idea of domain like spatial domain or transform domain or on the basis of wavelets. The copyright protection, capacity, security, strength etc are a number of the necessary factors that are taken in account whereas the watermarking system is intended. This paper aims to produce a detailed survey of all watermarking techniques specially focuses on image watermarking types and its applications in today’s world

    Augmented watermarking

This thesis provides an augmented watermarking technique wherein noise is based on the watermark added to the watermarked image so that only the end user who has the key for embedding the watermark can both remove the noise and watermark to get a final clear image. The recovery for different values of noise is observed. This system may be implemented as a basic digital rights management system by defining a regime of partial rights using overlaid watermarks, together with respectively added layers of noise, in which the rights of the users define the precision with which the signals may be viewed

An efficient data hiding method in images

Data Hiding has a huge range of applications in the medical field for transmission. It is helpful in securing the documentation of the patients from the violator with good storage space. The medical images of different modalities like CT, MRI, and PET with the digitized clinical information can be sent to the doctors across the world for the treatment. Due to the bandwidth and storage constraints, medical images along with the clinical information must be compressed before transmission and storage. This paper gives a technique for hiding the digitized clinical information along with the DICOM images in Complex Contourlet Transform (CCT) Domain. It also analyses the compression method by using an Entropy Encoder method. Hence, this work suggests that the data hiding method based on Complex Contourlet Transform (CCT) is efficient and also it has a high hiding capacity. The improved value of Compression Ratio (CR), Space Saving (SS), Mean Square Error (MSE) and Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR) shows that the new method satisfies the properties of the data hiding method

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF MULTIPLE TRANSFORM WATERMARKING SYSTEM FOR PRIVACY PROTECTION OF MEDICAL DATA USING PSNR AND NC

This paper presents the performance evaluation of a developed multiple transform watermarking system for privacy protection of medical data using Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR) and Normalized Cross-Correlation (NC). The PSNR was used to evaluate the imperceptibility of the system, while the NC was used to evaluate the robustness of the system under the various attacks include: Gaussian noise, pepper and salt noise, sharp enhancing, image cutting, image compression, low pass filter and image rotation. The obtained result showed that the similarity between original image and watermarked image has PSNR of 52.4595dB as compared to the existing system of 50.0285dB. This indicates that the proposed scheme can conceal the watermark better, and as well retains the image quality

Combining Haar Wavelet and Karhunen Loeve Transforms for Medical Images Watermarking

International audienceThis paper presents a novel watermarking method, applied to the medical imaging domain, used to embed the patient's data into the corresponding image or set of images used for the diagnosis. The main objective behind the proposed technique is to perform the watermarking of the medical images in such a way that the three main attributes of the hidden information (i.e. imperceptibility, robustness, and integration rate) can be jointly ameliorated as much as possible. These attributes determine the effectiveness of the watermark, resistance to external attacks and increase the integration rate. In order to improve the robustness, a combination of the characteristics of Discrete Wavelet and Karhunen Loeve Transforms is proposed. The Karhunen Loeve Transform is applied on the sub-blocks (sized 8x8) of the different wavelet coefficients (in the HL2, LH2 and HH2 subbands). In this manner, the watermark will be adapted according to the energy values of each of the Karhunen Loeve components, with the aim of ensuring a better watermark extraction under various types of attacks. For the correct identification of inserted data, the use of an Errors Correcting Code (ECC) mechanism is required for the check and, if possible, the correction of errors introduced into the inserted data. Concerning the enhancement of the imperceptibility factor, the main goal is to determine the optimal value of the visibility factor, which depends on several parameters of the DWT and the KLT transforms. As a first step, a Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) has been set up and then applied to determine an initial visibility factor value. Several features extracted from the Co-Occurrence matrix are used as an input to the FIS and used to determine an initial visibility factor for each block; these values are subsequently re-weighted in function of the eigenvalues extracted from each sub-block. Regarding the integration rate, the previous works insert one bit per coefficient. In our proposal, the integration of the data to be hidden is 3 bits per coefficient so that we increase the integration rate by a factor of magnitude 3
