    How students use social networks in education?

    The aim of this study is analysis of the use of social networks (SN) by Russian students in training. The study analyzed the results of the survey respondents from 25 universities of the Russian Federation (375 participants). Results of the study showed that 95% of students use SN in education, 5% refuse them. Students spend about 24% of their time to SN for the purpose of learning. Remaining time they spend on entertainment (41%), finding useful information (28%) and other (7%). Distribution of training time takes students: 35% - in the classroom with a teacher, 22% - using a variety of ICT (not including SN and LMS), 21% - extracurricular work without ICT, 15% - in SN, 7% - in LMS. Social networks are the de facto space for learning, and it’s happening at the initiative of the students themselves. And if the teacher offers students interact via the network in the course, the students’ attention more switches from entertainment to education

    Due to a growing significance and applicability of information technologies to an academic institution, it is necessary to acquaint librarians and other information professionals with the technology which can be applied to academic environment since the development of digital competence is an inherent part of every schoolΒ΄s curricula. Emerging library technologies such as Bibliographic Citation Management Software, Instructional System Design Software, Electronic Copyright Management System, Classroom Management Software, Library Automation Software, Electronic Resource Management Software and Integrated Search Software are very impactful as academic libraries move into the creation of digital contents. This paper reviewed the emerging library technology trend especially for academic libraries as well as the need to rethink and re-strategize on how increasing technological changes affect their services. Clear indications on libraries’ need of emerging technology tools to support academic librarians for efficient and effective performance were presented. Recommendations were offered on persistent self-renovation by library professionals in order to stay ahead of technology learning curve

    The paper deals with the issue of realities and prospects of distance learning at higher education institutions of Ukraine. Distance learning in Ukraine has been implementing for more than twenty years and distant learning technologies are used at most Ukrainian higher education institutions, but the necessity and feasibility of the introduction and development of remote technology is questionable both to faculty and students. The main purpose of this paper is to synthesize the real state of distance learning in Ukraine and outline its development prospects at higher education institutions of Ukraine. The paper represents the analysis of the survey results of student answers of four classical, pedagogical, maritime and agrotechnological higher education institutions regarding the practical implementation of distance learning in their institutions. The study of the realities of distance learning in the practice of higher education institutions in Ukraine has been conducted among 102 students. The questions concerned student attitude to distance learning, distance learning organisation, advantages and disadvantages of distance learning

The research results allow researchers to identify the realities of distance learning in Ukraine consisting in provision students with the access to distance learning at most higher education institutions. Certain prospects of distance learning development in Ukraine such as updating the software, hardware and material resources of higher education institutions, providing the broadband access to the Internet to higher education institutions of Ukraine are highlighted. It has been noted that ensuring the process of obtaining an educational degree (Bachelor’s, Master’s degrees) at higher education institutions of Ukraine is possible by taking massive open distance courses
