    The visual secret sharing (VSS) scheme is a method to maintain the confidentiality of a se-cret image by sharing it to some number participants. A (k, n) VSS divides the secret images into n parts, that are called shadows ; to recover the secret back, k shadows should be stacked. Some methods have been developed to implement VSS for color images. However, the methods are only suitable for images with limited number of colors. When more colors are used, the resulted stacked shadow image becomes unclear. Besides that, the size of the shadows becomes bigger as more colors are used. We develop a new method implementing the VSS using the RGB color system. Using our method, the problem related to the unclear stacked shadow image can be overcome

    On Real-valued Visual Cryptographic Basis Matrices

    Visual cryptography (VC) encodes an image into noise-like shares, which can be stacked to reveal a reduced quality version of the original. The problem with encrypting colour images is that they must undergo heavy pre-processing to reduce them to binary, entailing significant quality loss. This paper proposes VC that works directly on intermediate grayscale values per colour channel and demonstrates real-valued basis matrices for this purpose. The resulting stacked shares produce a clearer reconstruction than in binary VC, and to the best of the authors’ knowledge, is the first method posing no restrictions on colour values while maintaining the ability to decrypt with human vision. Grayscale and colour images of differing entropies are encrypted using fuzzy OR and XOR, and their PSNR and structural similarities are compared with binary VC to demonstrate improved quality. It is compared with previous research and its advantages highlighted, notably in high quality reconstructions with minimal processing

    A novel quality assessment for visual secret sharing schemes

    To evaluate the visual quality in visual secret sharing schemes, most of the existing metrics fail to generate fair and uniform quality scores for tested reconstructed images. We propose a new approach to measure the visual quality of the reconstructed image for visual secret sharing schemes. We developed an object detection method in the context of secret sharing, detecting outstanding local features and global object contour. The quality metric is constructed based on the object detection-weight map. The effectiveness of the proposed quality metric is demonstrated by a series of experiments. The experimental results show that our quality metric based on secret object detection outperforms existing metrics. Furthermore, it is straightforward to implement and can be applied to various applications such as performing the security test of the visual secret sharing process

    Near-optimal pitch of a moiré grating for image hiding applications in dynamic visual cryptography

    Dynamic visual cryptography is based on hiding of a dichotomous secret image in the regular moiré grating. One pitch of the moiré grating is used to represent the secret image and a slightly different pitch of another moiré grating is used to form the background. The secret is decoded in the form of a pattern of a time-averaged moiré fringe when the cover image is oscillated according to a predefined law of motion. The security of the encoding and the sharpness of the decoded secret are mostly influenced by the selection of the pitches of moiré grating. This paper proposes scheme for the determination of near-optimal pitches of the moiré grating for image hiding in dynamic visual cryptography

    The Secret Sharing is a scheme for sharing data into n pieces using (k, n) threshold method. Secret Sharing becomes an efficient method to ensure secure data transmission. Some visual cryptography techniques don’t guarantee security transmission because the secret information can be retrieved if the hackers obtain the number of shares. This study present a secret sharing method with hiding based on YCbCr color space. The proposed method is based on hiding the secret text file or image into a number of the cover image. The proposed method passes through three main steps: the first is to convert the secret text file or image and all cover images from RGB to YCbCr, the second step is to convert each color band to binary vector, then divide this band in the secret image into four-part, each part is appended with a binary vector of each cover image in variable locations, the third step is converting the color space from YCbCr to RGB color space and the generated shares, hidden with covers, are ready for transmission over the network. Even if the hackers get a piece of data or even all, they cannot retrieve the whole picture because they do not know where to hide the information. The results of the proposed scheme guarantee sending and receiving data of any length. The proposed method provides more security and reliability when compared with others. It hides an image of size (234x192) pixels with four covers. The MSE result is 3.12 and PSNR is 43.74. The proposed method shows good results, where the correlation between secret and retrieved images is strong ranging from (0.96 to 0.99). In the proposed method the reconstructed image quality is good, where original and reconstructed images Entropy are 7.224, 7.374 respectively

    Secret Sharing in Visual Cryptography

    This thesis examines techniques for recursive hiding scheme for 3 out of 5 secret sharing and a probabilistic 2 out of 3 secret sharing scheme for gray scale images. In recursive hiding of secrets several messages can be hidden in one of the shares of the original secret image. The images that are to be hidden are taken according to their sizes from smaller to the largest. The first small secret image is divided into five different shares using visual cryptography. These shares are placed in the next level to create the shares of larger secret information. The shares at each consecutive level are distributed so that no one has access to all the shares of the smaller images, unless at least three participants come together to reveal the secret information, resulting in 3 out of 5 scheme. In the proposed protocol for gray scale images, the quality of the image is perfect when it is reconstructed for the construction of the final image based on the binary OR operation.Computer Science Departmen
