    Exploring Intention to Adopt Mobile Banking Amongst Indian Youth

    The purpose of the present study is to investigate the major factors that influence the intention to adopt mobile banking. It explores the adoption factors using technology acceptance (TAM) and diffusion of innovation (DIT) theory. Major focus of the study is on the young consumer group that is more likely to adopt mobile banking. Analysis of the study is based on responses from college students in the national capital territory (NCT) of Delhi. Data is analysed using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Results indicate that constructs viz., perceived usefulness (PU), perceived ease of use (PEOU), compatibility; trust and attitude are significant factors to be considered for determination of intention to adoption mobile banking. The study includes implications for researchers and practitioners in terms of identifying the key indicators of adoption of emerging technologies pertaining to mobile banking. It forms a base for future research to predict technology adoption in the context of developing countries

    The mediating effect of attitude on direct and indirect determinants of Internet banking usage in Malaysia

    Internet banking in Malaysia has been in existence for more than two decades. However, there is still lack of studies in discovering the aspects of attitude and behavior of the retail banking customers towards the adoption of the internet banking services. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the determinants of the internet banking usage from the angle of attitude and behavior of these customers in the internet banking usage. This study employed the Technology Acceptance Model by Davis as the underpinning theory and further enhanced it to the Extended Technology Acceptance Model by taking into account factors such as trust, internet self-efficacy, and subjective norm as the additional predictors of internet banking usage via the mediating effect of attitude towards usage. The study setting was based on five top commercial banking in Malaysia and systematic random sampling of data collection was done through households via self–administered questionnaire and analysis was done by using the structural equation modelling as the statistical tool. The findings show that perceived ease of use and attitude have a positive significant effect on internet banking usage while perceived usefulness and internet self-efficacy have a positive impact on attitude. The findings further reveal that perceived usefulness and internet self-efficacy mediate through attitude on the internet banking usage while trust, perceived ease of use, and subjective norm do not mediate through attitude on the internet banking usage. These results are immeasurably valuable to practitioners for managing and executing their marketing strategy. Furthermore, it contributes and enriches knowledge pertaining to the predictors of internet banking usage

    Conceptualizing a Cashless System for the Retail Banking Sector of an Emerging Economy: Policy Implications for the Nigerian Apex Bank

    Though the disadvantages of a cash-based economy have led to a massive rollout of electronic systems of payment in many countries of the world; there are some academic evidences suggesting that the adoption and usage of electronic systems of transactions are still below expectations despite its acclaimed advantages. Although the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) joined other leading countries as they announced the cashless policy in 2011 and has subsequently introduced more stringent measures to implement the policy to date, there are doubts that the policy is for the good of all. Based on the insights obtained from innovation theory and cross-country comparison therefore, this paper investigated why the Nigerian economy is still far from being ready for a national rollout of the cashless policy. Findings show that the age distribution, income and educational level of an economy will likely shape the antecedents of consumers’ acceptance and usage of electronic transaction systems. The proposed conceptual model shows that the Nigerian economy is unready for a national rollout of the cashless policy. It was also predicted that a national rollout of the cashless policy will generate some labyrinths that may likely spell short-run difficulties for retail banking activities in Nigeria.     Strength properties of rice husk ash concrete under sodium sulphate attack

    The use of pozzolanic materials in concrete provides several advantages, such as improved strength and durability. This study investigated the strength properties of rice husk ash (RHA) concrete under severe durability (sodium sulphate attack). Four RHA replacement levels were considered in the study: 10%, 20%, 30%, and 40% by weight of cement. The durability performance of the RHA blended cement exposed to sodium sulphate solution was evaluated through compressive strength, reduction in strength, and weight loss. Test results showed that RHA can be satisfactorily used as a cement replacement material in order to increase the durability of concrete. Concrete containing 10% and 20% of RHA replacements showed excellent durability to sulphate attack. The results also indicate that the amount of Ca(OH)2 in the RHA blended cement concrete was lower than that of Portland cement due to the pozzolanic reaction of RH

    A Meta Analysis on Adoption of Mobile Financial Services

    During the last decade, there has been tremendous growth in mobile penetration in many countries across the globe including a number of developing countries. The total number of mobile subscription 5 billion by the end of 2010 and is further expected to grow multi-folds. On the other hand, around 2.5 billion adults worldwide do not have a savings or credit account with either a regulated bank or alternative financial institution (such as a microfinance institution). Around one billion people in emerging markets have a mobile phone but no access to banking services. This scenario has opened immense opportunities for organizations including banks, insurance companies and telecom operators to strengthen their customer base and increase revenue by providing various financial services to the consumers through mobile technology. Hence, it becomes very important to understand the factors that would act as drivers or inhibitors towards the adoption of mobile financial services (MFS). Quite a few studies have been conducted across the globe to determine the factors affecting adoption of MFS. This paper provides a Meta analysis of the existing academic literature on MFS and determines the strength of the factors and their linkages through a scoring model based on the type of publication. The findings of the study would be beneficial for further research in understanding the dimensions to be considered for developing adoption model for MFS. The findings can also be used by the practitioners involved in MFS in understanding the factors affecting demand for such services.

    TOWARDS EXTENDING THE ORIGINAL TECHNOLOGY ACCEPTANCE MODEL (TAM) FOR A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY ADOPTION

    Technology acceptance model (TAM) is arguably the most widely used intention theory that explains the individual’s acceptance of a certain technology.  Since Davis introduced TAM in 1986, it has been applied and validated in a variety of disciplines, including educational sciences. However, scholars note that depending on a specific context, the original TAM needs to be extended, which has been done by introducing external variables and other theories. Despite the existent TAM2 and TAM3, numerous scholars still opt for the original TAM, extending it with the variables and theories that are relevant to the specific context of their study. The aim of the present paper is to provide an overview of validated TAM extensions, which might later help to further the understanding of educational technology acceptance, which is a prerequisite of its adoption. Since interdisciplinarity in various contexts is becoming more and more common, the overview presents TAM extensions that come from a number of different disciplines. The overview is based on 108 papers that were retrieved from the Web of Science (Clarivate Analytics) by searching for the keywords ‘extended Technology Acceptance Model’, ‘extended TAM’, and ‘TAM extension’.

    An empirical investigation of smartphone technology acceptance among Universiti Utara Malaysia students

    This study investigated smartphone technology acceptance among Universiti Utara Malaysian (UUM) students by using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). The rapid diffusion of computer technology into smartphone increases smartphone penetration among Universiti Utara Malaysia students. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship of Perceived Ease of Use (PEU) and Perceived Usefulness (PU) as independent variables, and Attitude (ATT) and Behavioural intention (BI) as dependent variables on Smartphone Technology Acceptance among Universiti Utara Malaysia students. In addition, in this research Gender was used as a moderator to test the relationship between Attitude (ATT) and Behavioural intention (BI). In order to collect data a total of 500 questionnaires were distributed to (UUM) final year and postgraduate students in three colleges COB, CAS and COLGIS. The hypothesis results showed that there was a significant relationship among the four variables except Gender. This was because Gender failed to moderate in explaining the relationship between Attitude (ATT) and Behavioural intention (BI). On the other hand the statistical result showed that there was partial mediation effect of Perceived Usefulness (PU) on the relationship between Perceived Ease (PEU) of Use and Attitude (ATT) on Smartphone Technology Acceptance among Universiti Utara Malaysian students. Furthermore the researcher found that there was a significant relationship between both the dependent variables - Attitude (ATT) and Behavioural intention (BI) on smartphone technology acceptance among UUM students. The overall finding showed that technology advancement and breakthrough design of smartphone technology are the key factors that attract Universiti Utara Malaysia students to accept smartphone technology. On the other hand, usefulness and ease of use of the smartphone technology play important roles in influencing (UUM) students to have the intention to use smartphone technology in accomplishing their personal tasks. This is because the usefulness of smartphone technology with promising results makes (UUM) students rely heavily on this device
