An sTGC Prototype Readout System for ATLAS New-Small-Wheel Upgrade
This paper presents a readout system designed for testing the prototype of
Small-Strip Thin Gap Chamber (sTGC), which is one of the main detector
technologies used for ATLAS New-Small-Wheel Upgrade. This readout system aims
at testing one full-size sTGC quadruplet with cosmic muon triggers
Optimisation of IrDA IrLAP link access protocol
The widespread installation of millions of Infrared
Data Association (IrDA) infrared (IR) ports in mobile devices for wireless communication applications necessitates for throughput performance optimization of the IR links at the IrDA link access protocol (IrLAP) link layer. For IrDA connectivity, link-layer throughput optimization is important for any line bit-error
rate (BER). The paper provides a mathematical model with
which we derive a simple equation linking IrLAP throughput with physical and link-layer parameters. Simple equations for optimum values of window size and frame length for maximum link-layer throughput as a function of BER are derived. A study of the importance of parameters such as link minimum turnaround time and -timer time out period is presented. Finally, a protocol improvement that utilizes special supervisory frames (frames) to pass transmission control is proposed to deal with delays introduced by -timer expiration. Results indicate that employing
the special frame highly improves throughput performance
when optimum window and frame-size values are implemented
A logistic regression model for microalbuminuria prediction in overweight male population
Background: Obesity promotes progression to microalbuminuria and increases the risk of chronic kidney disease. Current protocols of screening microalbuminuria are not recommended for the overweight or obese.

Design and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted. The relationship between metabolic risk factors and microalbuminuria was investigated. A regression model based on metabolic risk factors was developed and evaluated for predicting microalbuminuria in the overweight or obese.

Results: The prevalence of MA reached up to 17.6% in Chinese overweight men. Obesity, hypertension, hyperglycemia and hyperuricemia were the important risk factors for microalbuminuria in the overweight. The area under ROC curves of the regression model based on the risk factors was 0.82 in predicting microalbuminuria, meanwhile, a decision threshold of 0.2 was found for predicting microalbuminuria with a sensitivity of 67.4% and specificity of 79.0%, and a global predictive value of 75.7%. A decision threshold of 0.1 was chosen for screening microalbuminuria with a sensitivity of 90.0% and specificity of 56.5%, and a global predictive value of 61.7%.

Conclusions: The prediction model was an effective tool for screening microalbuminuria by using routine data among overweight populations

Lipoprotein particles in patients with pediatric Cushing disease and possible cardiovascular risks.
BackgroundCardiovascular (CV) complications are the most significant cause of mortality in adults with Cushing disease (CD); little is known about CV risk factors in children with CD. Measurement of lipoprotein particles by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy is a novel technology to assess CV risk. The objective of the current study is to analyze the NMR lipid profile in pediatric CD patients before and 1 year after remission.MethodsNMR lipid profile was obtained via the Vantera NMR analyzer, using frozen serum samples from 33 CD patients (mean age 13.8 ± 4.0 years) evaluated between 1997 and 2017 at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Center (CC).ResultsGlycA (glycosylated acute-phase proteins), triglyceride-rich particles (TRLP medium and very small sizes), low-density lipoprotein (LDL) particles (LDLP total and large size), high-density lipoprotein (HDL) particles (HDLP total, medium and small sizes), total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, GlycA inflammatory biomarker, and apolipoprotein B and apolipoprotein A1 (ApoA1) concentrations showed statistically significant changes after remission of CD (p < 0.05).ConclusionIn our study population, most of the lipid variables improved post-CD remission, with the exception of HDL and ApoA1, indicating that NMR lipoprotein profile may be a helpful tool in assessing the CV risk in pediatric patients with CD
IAPSA 2 small-scale system specification
The details of a hardware implementation of a representative small scale flight critical system is described using Advanced Information Processing System (AIPS) building block components and simulated sensor/actuator interfaces. The system was used to study application performance and reliability issues during both normal and faulted operation
Energy-efficient communication protocol in linear wireless sensor networks
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have been widely recognized as a promising
technology that can enhance various aspects of structure monitoring
and border surveillance. Typical applications, such as sensors embedded
in the outer surface of a pipeline or mounted along the supporting structure
of a bridge, feature a linear sensor arrangement. Economical power
use of sensor nodes is essential for long-lasting operation. In this paper, we
present wireless High-Level Data Link Control (HDLC) a novel approach to
energy-efficient data routing to a single control center in a linear sensor topology.
Applying a standard data layer along with a time division multiple
access (TDMA)-based Medium Access Control (MAC) and time synchronization
technique specifically designed for the linear topology, we address
the interoperability problem with guaranteed energy efficiency and data
link performance in linear sensor topology.Peer Reviewe
Advanced information processing system: Inter-computer communication services
The purpose is to document the functional requirements and detailed specifications for the Inter-Computer Communications Services (ICCS) of the Advanced Information Processing System (AIPS). An introductory section is provided to outline the overall architecture and functional requirements of the AIPS and to present an overview of the ICCS. An overview of the AIPS architecture as well as a brief description of the AIPS software is given. The guarantees of the ICCS are provided, and the ICCS is described as a seven-layered International Standards Organization (ISO) Model. The ICCS functional requirements, functional design, and detailed specifications as well as each layer of the ICCS are also described. A summary of results and suggestions for future work are presented
