A Time-Critical Investigation of Parameter Tuning in Differential Evolution for Non-Linear Global Optimization
Parameter searching is one of the most important aspects in getting favorable results in optimization problems. It is even more important if the optimization problems are limited by time constraints. In a limited time constraint problems, it is crucial for any algorithms to get the best results or near-optimum results. In a previous study, Differential Evolution (DE) has been found as one of the best performing algorithms under time constraints. As this has help in answering which algorithm that yields results that are near-optimum under a limited time constraint. Hence to further enhance the performance of DE under time constraint evaluation, a throughout parameter searching for population size, mutation constant and f constant have been carried out. CEC 2015 Global Optimization Competition’s 15 scalable test problems are used as test suite for this study. In the previous study the same test suits has been used and the results from DE will be use as the benchmark for this study since it shows the best results among the previous tested algorithms. Eight different populations size are used and they are 10, 30, 50, 100, 150, 200, 300, and 500. Each of these populations size will run with mutation constant of 0.1 until 0.9 and from 0.1 until 0.9. It was found that population size 100, Cr = 0.9, F=0.5 outperform the benchmark results. It is also observed from the results that good higher Cr around 0.8 and 0.9 with low F around 0.3 to 0.4 yields good results for DE under time constraints evaluatio
Optimal receiver antenna location in indoor environment using dynamic differential evolution and genetic algorithm
Using the impulse responses of these multipath channels, the bit error rate (BER) performance for binary pulse amplitude modulation impulse radio ultra-wideband communication system is calculated. The optimization location of receiving antenna is investigated by dynamic differential evolution (DDE) and genetic algorithm (GA) to minimize the outage probability. Numerical results show that the performance for reducing BER and outage probability by DDE algorithm is better than that by GA
A Comprehensive Review on Various Estimation Techniques for Multi Input Multi Output Channel
The problem of wireless channel estimation has been evolving due to some undesirable effects of channel physical properties on transmitted signals. At the receiver end, distortions, delays, attenuations, interferences, and phase shifts are the most issues encounter together with the received signals. In order to overcome channel effects and provide almost a perfect quality of data transmission, channel parameter estimation is needed. In Multiple Input-Multiple Output systems (MIMO), channel estimation is a more complicated step as compared with the Single Input-Single Output systems, SISO, because of the fact that the number of sub-channels that needs estimate is much greater than SISO systems. The fundamental objective of this research paper is to go over the famous and efficient algorithms that have been innovated to solve the problem of MIMO channel estimation in wireless communication systems. In this paper, these techniques have been classified into three groups: non-blind, semi-blind and blind estimation. For each group, a brief illustration is presented for familiar estimation algorithms. Finally, we compare between these techniques based on computational complexity, latency and estimation accuracy
Quantum-aided multi-user transmission in non-orthogonal multiple access systems
With the research on implementing a universal quantum computer being under the technological spotlight, new possibilities appear for their employment in wireless communications systems for reducing their complexity and improving their performance. In this treatise, we consider the downlink of a rank-deficient, multi-user system and we propose the discrete-valued and continuous-valued Quantum-assisted Particle Swarm Optimization (QPSO) algorithms for performing Vector Perturbation (VP) precoding, as well as for lowering the required transmission power at the Base Station (BS), while minimizing the expected average Bit Error Ratio (BER) at the mobile terminals. We use the Minimum BER (MBER) criterion. We show that the novel quantum-assisted precoding methodology results in an enhanced BER performance, when compared to that of a classical methodology employing the PSO algorithm, while requiring the same computational complexity in the challenging rank-deficient scenarios, where the number of transmit antenna elements at the BS is lower than the number of users. Moreover, when there is limited Channel State Information (CSI) feedback from the users to the BS, due to the necessary quantization of the channel states, the proposed quantum-assisted precoder outperforms the classical precoder
Communication Aware UAV Swarm Surveillance Based on Hierarchical Architecture
Multi-agent unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) teaming becomes an essential part in science mission, modern warfare surveillance, and disaster rescuing. This paper proposes a decentralized UAV swarm persistent monitoring strategy in realizing continuous sensing coverage and network service. A two-layer (high altitude and low altitude) UAV teaming hierarchical structure is adopted in realizing the accurate object tracking in the area of interest (AOI). By introducing the UAV communication channel model in its path planning, both centralized and decentralized control schemes would be evaluated in the waypoint tracking simulation. The UAV swarm network service and object tracking are measured by metrics of communication link quality and waypoints tracking accuracy. UAV swarm network connectivity are evaluated over different aspects, such as stability and volatility. The comparison of proposed algorithms is presented with simulations. The result shows that the decentralized scheme outperforms the centralized scheme in the mission of persistent surveillance, especially on maintaining the stability of inner UAV swarm network while tracking moving objects

A Comprehensive Overview on 5G-and-Beyond Networks with UAVs: From Communications to Sensing and Intelligence
Due to the advancements in cellular technologies and the dense deployment of
cellular infrastructure, integrating unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) into the
fifth-generation (5G) and beyond cellular networks is a promising solution to
achieve safe UAV operation as well as enabling diversified applications with
mission-specific payload data delivery. In particular, 5G networks need to
support three typical usage scenarios, namely, enhanced mobile broadband
(eMBB), ultra-reliable low-latency communications (URLLC), and massive
machine-type communications (mMTC). On the one hand, UAVs can be leveraged as
cost-effective aerial platforms to provide ground users with enhanced
communication services by exploiting their high cruising altitude and
controllable maneuverability in three-dimensional (3D) space. On the other
hand, providing such communication services simultaneously for both UAV and
ground users poses new challenges due to the need for ubiquitous 3D signal
coverage as well as the strong air-ground network interference. Besides the
requirement of high-performance wireless communications, the ability to support
effective and efficient sensing as well as network intelligence is also
essential for 5G-and-beyond 3D heterogeneous wireless networks with coexisting
aerial and ground users. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive overview of
the latest research efforts on integrating UAVs into cellular networks, with an
emphasis on how to exploit advanced techniques (e.g., intelligent reflecting
surface, short packet transmission, energy harvesting, joint communication and
radar sensing, and edge intelligence) to meet the diversified service
requirements of next-generation wireless systems. Moreover, we highlight
important directions for further investigation in future work.Comment: Accepted by IEEE JSA
