Study on automatic person recognition by palmprint is currently a hot topic. In this paper, we propose a novel palmprint recognition method by transforming the typical palmprint phase code feature into its Fourier frequency domain. The resulting real-valued Fourier spectral features are further processed by horizontal and vertical 2DPCA method, which proves highly efficient in terms of computational complexity, storage requirement and recognition accuracy. This paper also gives a contrast study on palm code and competitive code under the proposed feature extraction framework. Besides, experimental results on the Hongkong PolyU Palmprint database demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms many currently reported local Gabor pattern approaches for palmprint recognition

Palmprint recognition has emerged as a substantial biometric based personal identification. Tow types of biometrics palmprint feature. high resolution feature that includes: minutia points, ridges and singular points that could be extracted for forensic applications. Moreover, low resolution feature such as wrinkles and principal lines which could be extracted for commercial applications. This paper uses 700nm spectral band PolyU hyperspectral palmprint database. Multiscale image transform: bandlet, ridgelet and 2D discrete wavelet have been applied to extract feature. The size of features are reduced by using principle component analysis and linear discriminate analysis. Feed-forward Back-propagation neural network is used as a classifier. The recognition rate accuracy shows that bandlet transform outperforms others

Local Binary Patterns (LBP) are extensively used to analyze local texture features of an image. Several new extensions to LBP-based texture descriptors have been proposed, focusing on improving noise robustness by using different coding or thresholding schemes. In this paper we propose three algorithms (LBP), Shift Local Binary Pattern (SLBP), and Multi Shift Local Binary Pattern (MSLBP),to extract features for palmprint images that help to obtain the best unique and characteristic values of an image for identification. The Principal Component Analysis (PCA) algorithm has been applied to reduce the size of the extracted feature matrix in random space and in the matching process; the Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) algorithm is used. Several experiments were conducted on the large multispectral database (blue, green, red, and infrared) of the University of Hong Kong. As result, distinguished and high results were obtained where it was proved that, the blue spectrum is superior to all spectra perfectly

Palmprint identification using Log Transformation of Transform Domain Features

The Palmprint is an efficient physiological biometric trait to identify a person. In this paper we propose Palmprint Identification using Log Transformation of Transform Domain Features. The Region of Interest (ROI) of palmprint image is extracted using preprocessing. The KWT and DWT are applied on preprocessed image to generate features. The KWT and DWT features of test image and database images are compared using Euclidian distance to compute EER and TSR values. The EER and TSR values of KWT and DWT are fused using Log Transformation to get better performance parameters. It is observed that the values of performance parameters are better in the case of proposed algorithm compared to existing algorithms

Multispectral palmprint recognition using Pascal coefficients-based LBP and PHOG descriptors with random sampling

Local binary pattern (LBP) algorithm and its variants have been used extensively to analyse the local textural features of digital images with great success. Numerous extensions of LBP descriptors have been suggested, focusing on improving their robustness to noise and changes in image conditions. In our research, inspired by the concepts of LBP feature descriptors and a random sampling subspace, we propose an ensemble learning framework, using a variant of LBP constructed from Pascal’s coefficients of n-order and referred to as a multiscale local binary pattern. To address the inherent overfitting problem of linear discriminant analysis, PCA was applied to the training samples. Random sampling was used to generate multiple feature subsets. In addition, in this work, we propose a new feature extraction technique that combines the pyramid histogram of oriented gradients and LBP, where the features are concatenated for use in the classification. Its performance in recognition was evaluated using the Hong Kong Polytechnic University database. Extensive experiments unmistakably show the superiority of the proposed approach compared to state-of-the-art techniques
