MISSED: an environment for mixed-signal microsystem testing and diagnosis
A tight link between design and test data is proposed for speeding up test-pattern generation and diagnosis during mixed-signal prototype verification. Test requirements are already incorporated at the behavioral level and specified with increased detail at lower hierarchical levels. A strict distinction between generic routines and implementation data makes reuse of software possible. A testability-analysis tool and test and DFT libraries support the designer to guarantee testability. Globalisation and Employment Generation in Nigeria’s Manufacturing Sector (1990-2006)
In this paper, we examined the effects of globalisation on employment level in the
manufacturing sector in Nigeria. The manufacturing sector is considered very important as
it is expected to be one of the key sectors absorbing the surplus agricultural labour as they
are released from the rural sector in the development process. Given the set of reforms
embarked upon since the mid-1980’s in Nigeria which are expected to lead to structural and
institutional changes such as an enhanced private sector participation in the economy and
higher employment generation, among others, we have designed this study to examine the
employment effect of globalisation in the Nigerian manufacturing. Using time series data
for the period 1990-2006, we have carried out an analysis of the impact of these reform
policies, especially those related to globalisation and employment. In addition, we have
formulated and estimated an employment model to examine the influence of several
globalisation variables used on the employment level. The result of our analysis showed
that several employment and globalisation-related variables are positively related in the
Nigerian manufacturing. Based on our findings, we have proffered some recommendations
that are capable of enhancing the employment level in the manufacturing sector of Nigeria
Testing real-time systems using TINA
The paper presents a technique for model-based black-box conformance testing of real-time systems using the Time Petri Net Analyzer TINA. Such test suites are derived from a prioritized time Petri net composed of two concurrent sub-nets specifying respectively the expected behaviour of the system under test and its environment.We describe how the toolbox TINA has been extended to support automatic generation of time-optimal test suites. The result is optimal in the sense that the set of test cases in the test suite have the shortest possible accumulated time to be executed. Input/output conformance serves as the notion of implementation correctness, essentially timed trace inclusion taking environment assumptions into account. Test cases selection is based either on using manually formulated test purposes or automatically from various coverage criteria specifying structural criteria of the model to be fulfilled by the test suite. We discuss how test purposes and coverage criterion are specified in the linear temporal logic SE-LTL, derive test sequences, and assign verdicts
Stabilized lasers for advanced gravitational wave detectors
Second generation gravitational wave detectors require high power lasers with more than 100 W of output power and with very low temporal and spatial fluctuations. To achieve the demanding stability levels required, low noise techniques and adequate control actuators have to be part of the high power laser design. In addition feedback control and passive noise filtering is used to reduce the fluctuations in the so-called prestabilized laser system (PSL). In this paper, we discuss the design of a 200 W PSL which is under development for the Advanced LIGO gravitational wave detector and will present the first results. The PSL noise requirements for advanced gravitational wave detectors will be discussed in general and the stabilization scheme proposed for the Advanced LIGO PSL will be described
The re-emission spectrum of digital hardware subjected to EMI
The emission spectrum of digital hardware under the influence of external electromagnetic interference is shown to contain information about the interaction of the incident energy with the digital circuits in the system. The generation mechanism of the re-emission spectrum is reviewed, describing how nonlinear effects may be a precursor to the failure of the equipment under test. Measurements on a simple circuit are used to demonstrate how the characteristics of the re-emission spectrum may be correlated with changes to the digital waveform within the circuit. The technique is also applied to a piece of complex digital hardware where Similar, though more subtle, effects can be measured. It is shown that the re-emission spectrum can be used to detect the interaction of the interference with the digital devices at a level well below that which is able to cause static failures in the circuits. The utility of the technique as a diagnostic tool for immunity testing of digital hardware, by identifying which subsystems are being affected by external interference, is also demonstrated
A research protocol for developing a Point-Of-Care Key Evidence Tool 'POCKET': a checklist for multidimensional evidence reporting on point-of-care in vitro diagnostics.
INTRODUCTION: Point-of-care in vitro diagnostics (POC-IVD) are increasingly becoming widespread as an acceptable means of providing rapid diagnostic results to facilitate decision-making in many clinical pathways. Evidence in utility, usability and cost-effectiveness is currently provided in a fragmented and detached manner that is fraught with methodological challenges given the disruptive nature these tests have on the clinical pathway. The Point-of-care Key Evidence Tool (POCKET) checklist aims to provide an integrated evidence-based framework that incorporates all required evidence to guide the evaluation of POC-IVD to meet the needs of policy and decisionmakers in the National Health Service (NHS). METHODS AND ANALYSIS: A multimethod approach will be applied in order to develop the POCKET. A thorough literature review has formed the basis of a robust Delphi process and validation study. Semistructured interviews are being undertaken with POC-IVD stakeholders, including industry, regulators, commissioners, clinicians and patients to understand what evidence is required to facilitate decision-making. Emergent themes will be translated into a series of statements to form a survey questionnaire that aims to reach a consensus in each stakeholder group to what needs to be included in the tool. Results will be presented to a workshop to discuss the statements brought forward and the optimal format for the tool. Once assembled, the tool will be field-tested through case studies to ensure validity and usability and inform refinement, if required. The final version will be published online with a call for comments. Limitations include unpredictable sample representation, development of compromise position rather than consensus, and absence of blinding in validation exercise. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: The Imperial College Joint Research Compliance Office and the Imperial College Hospitals NHS Trust R&D department have approved the protocol. The checklist tool will be disseminated through a PhD thesis, a website, peer-reviewed publication, academic conferences and formal presentations
Shainin methodology: An alternative or an effective complement to Six Sigma?
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to provide a brief overview of Six Sigma and Shainin RedX (R) methodology and to propose the modification of Six Sigma methodology in order to achieve the improved efficiency of DMAIC in the diagnostic journey using some of the approaches of Shainin RedX (R) methodology.
Methodology/Approach: The diagnostic journey of Six Sigma has been revised by bringing key elements of Shainin RedX (R) methodology into DMAIC: task domain character of the method, focus on the dominant root-cause, use of the progressive elimination method and the application of a problem-solving strategy.
Findings: This paper presents a proposal of DMAIC framework modification using selected tools and procedures of Shainin RedX (R) methodology in the diagnostic phase.
Research Limitation/implication: Although the improved methodology is used in the environment of the automotive supplier, in this paper, practical examples are not included in order not to violate the licensing rules applied by Shainin LLC.
Originality/Value of paper: The contribution of this article is the proposal of modified methodology, which should improve the effectiveness of problem-solving.Web of Science192311
Data Mining by Soft Computing Methods for The Coronary Heart Disease Database
For improvement of data mining technology, the advantages and disadvantages on respective data mining methods
should be discussed by comparison under the same condition. For this purpose, the Coronary Heart Disease database (CHD DB) was developed in 2004, and the data mining competition was held in the International Conference on Knowledge-Based Intelligent Information and Engineering Systems (KES). In the competition, two methods based on soft computing were presented. In this paper, we report the overview of the CHD DB and the soft computing methods, and discuss the features of respective methods by comparison of the experimental results

The EMNLP 2018 workshop BlackboxNLP was dedicated to resources and techniques
specifically developed for analyzing and understanding the inner-workings and
representations acquired by neural models of language. Approaches included:
systematic manipulation of input to neural networks and investigating the
impact on their performance, testing whether interpretable knowledge can be
decoded from intermediate representations acquired by neural networks,
proposing modifications to neural network architectures to make their knowledge
state or generated output more explainable, and examining the performance of
networks on simplified or formal languages. Here we review a number of
representative studies in each category
Medical analysis and diagnosis by neural networks
In its first part, this contribution reviews shortly the application of neural network methods to medical problems and characterizes its advantages and problems in the context of the medical background. Successful application examples show that human diagnostic capabilities are significantly worse than the neural diagnostic systems. Then, paradigm of neural networks is shortly introduced and the main problems of medical data base and the basic approaches for training and testing a network by medical data are described. Additionally, the problem of interfacing the network and its result is given and the neuro-fuzzy approach is presented. Finally, as case study of neural rule based diagnosis septic shock diagnosis is described, on one hand by a growing neural network and on the other hand by a rule based system.
