    Ant with Artificial Bee Colony Techniques in Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks

    A VANET faces many problems due to dynamic changing of networks with certain requirements such as low delay, high (PDR) packet delivery ratio, low routing overhead and throughput. However, numerous routing protocols have been suggested to meet the demands of Quality of Service (QoS), but none of them can consistently maintain the highest level of QoS simultaneously. The proposed method Ant with Artificial Bee Colony Techniques provides better performance when compared to the existing techniques. This work is compared with latest developed Techniques in VANET to find the best path and different performance metrics are used to check the performance. This work premeditated the comparative analysis of Quality of services made by the performance of latest emerging techniques in VANET and will provide the best solution for the recognition problem in finding the best path based on the evaluation of performance of Quality of Service. Simulation results imply the benefits of the proposed Ant with Artificial Bee Colony Techniques (AABC) produces better result when compare to the other conventional method and Ant Colony Techniques(ACT)in terms of high packet delivery ratio, less end-to-end delay and less energy consumption level. The performance is evaluated by using Ns2 simulator and results shows that the AABC successfully achieve the optimal routes

    FANET: Smart city mobility off to a flying start with self‐organized drone‐based networks

    Due to recent advancements in smart city traffic and transport monitoring industry 4.0 applications. Flying Ad-Hoc Networks (FANETs) ability to cover geographically large areas, makes it a suitable technology to address the challenges faced during remote areas traffic monitoring. The implementation of drone based FANETs have several advantages in remote traffic monitoring, including free air-to-air drone assisted communication zone and smart surveillance and security. The drone-based FANETs can be deployed within minutes without requiring physical infrastructure, making it suitable for mission critical applications in several areas of interests. Here a drone-based FANETs application for smart city remote traffic monitoring is presented while addressing several challenges including coverage of larger geographical area and data communication links between FANETs nodes. A FANET-inspired enhanced ACO algorithm that easily coped with drone assisted technology of FANETs is proposed to cover the large areas. Simulation results are presented to compare the proposed technique against different network lifetime and number of received packets. The presented results show that the proposed technique perform better compared to other state-of-the-art techniques

    Routing schemes in FANETs: a survey

    Flying ad hoc network (FANET) is a self-organizing wireless network that enables inexpensive, flexible, and easy-to-deploy flying nodes, such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), to communicate among themselves in the absence of fixed network infrastructure. FANET is one of the emerging networks that has an extensive range of next-generation applications. Hence, FANET plays a significant role in achieving application-based goals. Routing enables the flying nodes to collaborate and coordinate among themselves and to establish routes to radio access infrastructure, particularly FANET base station (BS). With a longer route lifetime, the effects of link disconnections and network partitions reduce. Routing must cater to two main characteristics of FANETs that reduce the route lifetime. Firstly, the collaboration nature requires the flying nodes to exchange messages and to coordinate among themselves, causing high energy consumption. Secondly, the mobility pattern of the flying nodes is highly dynamic in a three-dimensional space and they may be spaced far apart, causing link disconnection. In this paper, we present a comprehensive survey of the limited research work of routing schemes in FANETs. Different aspects, including objectives, challenges, routing metrics, characteristics, and performance measures, are covered. Furthermore, we present open issues

    QoS-Balancing Algorithm for Optimal Relay Selection in Heterogeneous Vehicular Networks

    Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) could facilitate communications among various road entities to improve the driver's safety and driving experience. These communications are called Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communications that can be supported by LTE-V2X protocols. Due to frequent changes of network topology in V2X, the source node (e.g., a vehicle) may have to choose a Device-to-Device(D2D) relay node to forward its packet to the destination node. In this paper, we propose a new method for choosing an optimal D2D relay node. The proposed method considers Quality of Service (QoS) requirements for selecting D2D relay nodes. It employs an Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) for making decisions. The decision criteria are linked with channel capacity, link stability and end-to-end delay. A number of simulations were performed considering various network scenarios to evaluate the performance of the proposed method. Simulation results show that the proposed method improves Packet Dropping Rate (PDR) by 30% and delivery ratio by 23% in comparison with the existing methods

    Design Models for Trusted Communications in Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) Networks

    Intelligent transportation system is one of the main systems which has been developed to achieve safe traffic and efficient transportation. It enables the road entities to establish connections with other road entities and infrastructure units using Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communications. To improve the driving experience, various applications are implemented to allow for road entities to share the information among each other. Then, based on the received information, the road entity can make its own decision regarding road safety and guide the driver. However, when these packets are dropped for any reason, it could lead to inaccurate decisions due to lack of enough information. Therefore, the packets should be sent through a trusted communication. The trusted communication includes a trusted link and trusted road entity. Before sending packets, the road entity should assess the link quality and choose the trusted link to ensure the packet delivery. Also, evaluating the neighboring node behavior is essential to obtain trusted communications because some misbehavior nodes may drop the received packets. As a consequence, two main models are designed to achieve trusted V2X communications. First, a multi-metric Quality of Service (QoS)-balancing relay selection algorithm is proposed to elect the trusted link. Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is applied to evaluate the link based on three metrics, which are channel capacity, link stability and end-to-end delay. Second, a recommendation-based trust model is designed for V2X communication to exclude misbehavior nodes. Based on a comparison between trust-based methods, weighted-sum is chosen in the proposed model. The proposed methods ensure trusted communications by reducing the Packet Dropping Rate (PDR) and increasing the end-to-end delivery packet ratio. In addition, the proposed trust model achieves a very low False Negative Rate (FNR) in comparison with an existing model

As any community, there are always unexpected emergencies, which must be treated to preserve the regular order. However, a smart system is needed to be able to respond effectively to these emergent situations. The contribution made in this survey is twofold. Firstly, it provides a comprehensive exhaustive and categorized overview of the existing surveys for smart cities.  The categorization is based on several criteria such as structures, benefits, advantages, applications, challenges, issues, and future directions. Secondly, it aims to analyze several studies with respect to emergent situations and management to smart cities. The analysis is based on several factors such as the challenges and issues discussed, the solutions proposed, and opportunities for future research. The challenges include security, privacy, reliability, performance, scalability, heterogeneity, scheduling, resource management, and latency. Few studies have investigated the emergent situations of smart cities and despite the importance of latency factor for smart city applications, it is rarely discussed

    A Review on Swarm Intelligence Based Routing Approaches

    The principles of bio-inspired or swarm intelligence algorithms can be effectively used to achieve optimal solutions in routing for complex and dynamic wireless sensor networks or body area networks. As the name indicates, it is a field that is inspired by natural living beings like ants, bees, fishes, etc. Studies have proved that the routing protocols based on such bio-inspired methods perform better in terms of energy efficiency, reliability, adaptivity, scalability, and robustness. The general classification of routing protocols is classical-based and swarm-based routing protocols, where both the protocols were specifically categorized as data-centric, location-aware, hierarchical and network flow, and QoS aware protocols. In this paper, an evocative taxonomy and comparison of various swarm-based routing algorithms are presented. A brief discussion about the sensor network design and the major factors that influence the routing is also discussed. The comparative analysis of the selected swarm-based protocols is also done with respect to routing characteristics like query based, route selection, energy efficiency, and path selection. From the review, it is observed that the selection of a routing protocol is application dependent. This paper will be helpful to the researchers as a reference on bio-inspired algorithms for new protocol designs and also for the proper selection of routing protocols according to the type of applications
