Communication Theoretic Data Analytics
Widespread use of the Internet and social networks invokes the generation of
big data, which is proving to be useful in a number of applications. To deal
with explosively growing amounts of data, data analytics has emerged as a
critical technology related to computing, signal processing, and information
networking. In this paper, a formalism is considered in which data is modeled
as a generalized social network and communication theory and information theory
are thereby extended to data analytics. First, the creation of an equalizer to
optimize information transfer between two data variables is considered, and
financial data is used to demonstrate the advantages. Then, an information
coupling approach based on information geometry is applied for dimensionality
reduction, with a pattern recognition example to illustrate the effectiveness.
These initial trials suggest the potential of communication theoretic data
analytics for a wide range of applications.Comment: Published in IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications, Jan.

Reconfiguration of Distributed Information Fusion System ? A case study
Information Fusion Systems are now widely used in different fusion contexts,
like scientific processing, sensor networks, video and image processing. One of
the current trends in this area is to cope with distributed systems. In this
context, we have defined and implemented a Dynamic Distributed Information
Fusion System runtime model. It allows us to cope with dynamic execution
supports while trying to maintain the functionalities of a given Dynamic
Distributed Information Fusion System. The paper presents our system, the
reconfiguration problems we are faced with and our solutions.Comment: 6 pages - Preprint versio
Stabilizing Stochastic Predictive Control under Bernoulli Dropouts
This article presents tractable and recursively feasible optimization-based
controllers for stochastic linear systems with bounded controls. The stochastic
noise in the plant is assumed to be additive, zero mean and fourth moment
bounded, and the control values transmitted over an erasure channel. Three
different transmission protocols are proposed having different requirements on
the storage and computational facilities available at the actuator. We optimize
a suitable stochastic cost function accounting for the effects of both the
stochastic noise and the packet dropouts over affine saturated disturbance
feedback policies. The proposed controllers ensure mean square boundedness of
the states in closed-loop for all positive values of control bounds and any
non-zero probability of successful transmission over a noisy control channel

Internet of robotic things : converging sensing/actuating, hypoconnectivity, artificial intelligence and IoT Platforms
The Internet of Things (IoT) concept is evolving rapidly and influencing newdevelopments in various application domains, such as the Internet of MobileThings (IoMT), Autonomous Internet of Things (A-IoT), Autonomous Systemof Things (ASoT), Internet of Autonomous Things (IoAT), Internetof Things Clouds (IoT-C) and the Internet of Robotic Things (IoRT) etc.that are progressing/advancing by using IoT technology. The IoT influencerepresents new development and deployment challenges in different areassuch as seamless platform integration, context based cognitive network integration, new mobile sensor/actuator network paradigms, things identification(addressing, naming in IoT) and dynamic things discoverability and manyothers. The IoRT represents new convergence challenges and their need to be addressed, in one side the programmability and the communication ofmultiple heterogeneous mobile/autonomous/robotic things for cooperating, their coordination, configuration, exchange of information, security, safetyand protection. Developments in IoT heterogeneous parallel processing/communication and dynamic systems based on parallelism and concurrencyrequire new ideas for integrating the intelligent “devices”, collaborativerobots (COBOTS), into IoT applications. Dynamic maintainability, selfhealing,self-repair of resources, changing resource state, (re-) configurationand context based IoT systems for service implementation and integrationwith IoT network service composition are of paramount importance whennew “cognitive devices” are becoming active participants in IoT applications. This chapter aims to be an overview of the IoRT concept, technologies, architectures and applications and to provide a comprehensive coverage offuture challenges, developments and applications
Decentralized robust set-valued state estimation in networked multiple sensor systems
AbstractThis paper addresses a decentralized robust set-valued state estimation problem for a class of uncertain systems via a data-rate constrained sensor network. The uncertainties of the systems satisfy an energy-type constraint known as an integral quadratic constraint. The sensor network consists of spatially distributed sensors and a fusion center where set-valued state estimation is carried out. The communications from the sensors to the fusion center are through data-rate constrained communication channels. We propose a state estimation scheme which involves coders that are implemented in the sensors, and a decoder–estimator that is located at the fusion center. Their construction is based on the robust Kalman filtering techniques. The robust set-valued state estimation results of this paper involve the solution of a jump Riccati differential equation and the solution of a set of jump state equations
Recent advances on recursive filtering and sliding mode design for networked nonlinear stochastic systems: A survey

This is an open access article distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution License, which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited. Some recent advances on the recursive filtering and sliding mode design problems for nonlinear stochastic systems with network-induced phenomena are surveyed. The network-induced phenomena under consideration mainly include missing measurements, fading measurements, signal quantization, probabilistic sensor delays, sensor saturations, randomly occurring nonlinearities, and randomly occurring uncertainties. With respect to these network-induced phenomena, the developments on filtering and sliding mode design problems are systematically reviewed. In particular, concerning the network-induced phenomena, some recent results on the recursive filtering for time-varying nonlinear stochastic systems and sliding mode design for time-invariant nonlinear stochastic systems are given, respectively. Finally, conclusions are proposed and some potential future research works are pointed out. This work was supported in part by the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grant nos. 61134009, 61329301, 61333012, 61374127 and 11301118, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) of the UK under Grant no. Distributed Event-Triggered Nonlinear Fusion Estimation under Resource Constraints
This paper studies the event-triggered distributed fusion estimation problems
for a class of nonlinear networked multisensor fusion systems without noise
statistical characteristics. When considering the limited resource problems of
two kinds of communication channels (i.e., sensor-to-remote estimator channel
and smart sensor-to-fusion center channel), an event-triggered strategy and a
dimensionality reduction strategy are introduced in a unified networked
framework to lighten the communication burden. Then, two kinds of compensation
strategies in terms of a unified model are designed to restructure the
untransmitted information, and the local/fusion estimators are proposed based
on the compensation information. Furthermore, the linearization errors caused
by the Taylor expansion are modeled by the state-dependent matrices with
uncertain parameters when establishing estimation error systems, and then
different robust recursive optimization problems are constructed to determine
the estimator gains and the fusion criteria. Meanwhile, the stability
conditions are also proposed such that the square errors of the designed
nonlinear estimators are bounded. Finally, a vehicle localization system is
employed to demonstrate the effectiveness and advantages of the proposed
methods.Comment: 15 pages,9 figures. The first draft was completed in June 2021, and
