Reliable H â filtering for stochastic spatialâtemporal systems with sensor saturations and failures
This study is concerned with the reliable Hâ filtering problem for a class of stochastic spatialâtemporal systems
with sensor saturations and failures. Different from the continuous spatialâtemporal systems, the dynamic behaviour of the system under consideration evolves in a discrete rectangular region. The aim of this study is to estimate the system states through the measurements received from a set of sensors located at some specified points. In order to cater for more realistic signal transmission process, the phenomena of sensor saturations and sensor failures are taken into account. By using the vector reorganisation approach, the spatialâtemporal system is first transformed into an equivalent ordinary differential dynamic system. Then, a filter is constructed and a sufficient condition is obtained under which the filtering error dynamics is asymptotically stable in probability and the Hâ performance requirement is met. On the basis of the analysis results, the desired reliable Hâ filter is designed. Finally, an illustrative example is given to show the effectiveness of the proposed filtering scheme.Deanship of Scientific Research (DSR) at King Abdulaziz University in Saudi Arabia under Grant 16-135-35-HiCi, the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grants 61329301, 61134009 and 61473076, the Shanghai Rising-Star Program of China under Grant 13QA1400100, the Shu Guang project of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and Shanghai Education Development Foundation under Grant 13SG34, the Program for Professor of Special Appointment (Eastern Scholar) at Shanghai Institutions of Higher Learning, the Fundamental Research Funds for the Central Universities, the DHU Distinguished Young Professor Program, and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of German
The Theory of Fuzzy Logic and its Application to Real Estate Valuation
Fuzzy logic is based on the central idea that in fuzzy sets each element in the set can assume a value from 0 to 1, not just 0 or 1, as in classic set theory. Thus, qualitative characteristics and numerically scaled measures can exhibit gradations in the extent to which they belong to the relevant sets for evaluation. This degree of membership of each element is a measure of the elementâs "belonging" to the set, and thus of the precision with which it explains the phenomenon being evaluated. Fuzzy sets can be combined to produce meaningful conclusions, and inferences can be made, given a specified fuzzy input function. The article demonstrates the application of fuzzy logic to an income-producing property, with a resulting fuzzy set output.
Variable-fidelity electromagnetic simulations and co-kriging for accurate modeling of antennas
Accurate and fast models are indispensable in contemporary antenna design. In this paper, we describe the low-cost antenna modeling methodology involving variable-fidelity electromagnetic (EM) simulations and co-Kriging. Our approach exploits sparsely sampled accurate (high-fidelity) EM data as well as densely sampled coarse-discretization (low-fidelity) EM simulations that are accommodated into one model using the co-Kriging technique. By using coarse-discretization simulations, the computational cost of creating the antenna model is greatly reduced compared to conventional approaches, where high-fidelity simulations are directly used to set up the model. At the same time, the modeling accuracy is not compromised. The proposed technique is demonstrated using three examples of antenna structures. Comparisons with conventional modeling based on high-fidelity data approximation, as well as applications for antenna design, are also discussed
LiDAR and Camera Detection Fusion in a Real Time Industrial Multi-Sensor Collision Avoidance System
Collision avoidance is a critical task in many applications, such as ADAS
(advanced driver-assistance systems), industrial automation and robotics. In an
industrial automation setting, certain areas should be off limits to an
automated vehicle for protection of people and high-valued assets. These areas
can be quarantined by mapping (e.g., GPS) or via beacons that delineate a
no-entry area. We propose a delineation method where the industrial vehicle
utilizes a LiDAR {(Light Detection and Ranging)} and a single color camera to
detect passive beacons and model-predictive control to stop the vehicle from
entering a restricted space. The beacons are standard orange traffic cones with
a highly reflective vertical pole attached. The LiDAR can readily detect these
beacons, but suffers from false positives due to other reflective surfaces such
as worker safety vests. Herein, we put forth a method for reducing false
positive detection from the LiDAR by projecting the beacons in the camera
imagery via a deep learning method and validating the detection using a neural
network-learned projection from the camera to the LiDAR space. Experimental
data collected at Mississippi State University's Center for Advanced Vehicular
Systems (CAVS) shows the effectiveness of the proposed system in keeping the
true detection while mitigating false positives.Comment: 34 page
On Burst Error Correction and Storage Security of Noisy Data
Secure storage of noisy data for authentication purposes usually involves the
use of error correcting codes. We propose a new model scenario involving burst
errors and present for that several constructions.Comment: to be presented at MTNS 201
Text Line Segmentation of Historical Documents: a Survey
There is a huge amount of historical documents in libraries and in various
National Archives that have not been exploited electronically. Although
automatic reading of complete pages remains, in most cases, a long-term
objective, tasks such as word spotting, text/image alignment, authentication
and extraction of specific fields are in use today. For all these tasks, a
major step is document segmentation into text lines. Because of the low quality
and the complexity of these documents (background noise, artifacts due to
aging, interfering lines),automatic text line segmentation remains an open
research field. The objective of this paper is to present a survey of existing
methods, developed during the last decade, and dedicated to documents of
historical interest.Comment: 25 pages, submitted version, To appear in International Journal on

Automatic human face detection for content-based image annotation
In this paper, an automatic human face detection approach using colour analysis is applied for content-based image annotation. In the face detection, the probable face region is detected by adaptive boosting algorithm, and then combined with a colour filtering classifier to enhance the accuracy in face detection. The initial experimental benchmark shows the proposed scheme can be efficiently applied for image annotation with higher fidelity
