AbstractWe use the stability or instability of the singular points together with the results of Poincaré on the multipliers of a periodic orbit for studying the C1 non-integrability of the Belousov–Zhabotinskii system

Ultracold Chemistry and its Reaction Kinetics

    Get PDF
We study the reaction kinetics of chemical processes occurring in the ultracold regime and systematically investigate their dynamics. Quantum entanglement is found to play a key role in driving an ultracold reaction towards a dynamical equilibrium. In case of multiple concurrent reactions Hamiltonian chaos dominates the phase space dynamics in the mean field approximation.Comment: 15 pages, 5 figure

Group classification and conservation laws for a two-dimensional generalized Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation

Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq)Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP)The two-dimensional anisotropic Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation is a fourth-order nonlinear evolution equation in two spatial dimensions that arises in sputter erosion and epitaxial growth on vicinal surfaces. A generalization of this equation is proposed and studied via group analysis methods. The complete group classification of this generalized Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation is carried out; it is classified according to the property of the self-adjointness and the corresponding conservation laws are established. Travelling waves in nonlinear diffusion-convection-reaction

    Get PDF
The study of travelling waves or fronts has become an essential part of the mathematical analysis of nonlinear diffusion-convection-reaction processes. Whether or not a nonlinear second-order scalar reaction-convection-diffusion equation admits a travelling-wave solution can be determined by the study of a singular nonlinear integral equation. This article is devoted to demonstrating how this correspondence unifies and generalizes previous results on the occurrence of travelling-wave solutions of such partial differential equations. The detailed comparison with earlier results simultaneously provides a survey of the topic. It covers travelling-wave solutions of generalizations of the Fisher, Newell-Whitehead, Zeldovich, KPP and Nagumo equations, the Burgers and nonlinear Fokker-Planck equations, and extensions of the porous media equation. \u

Dynamics of Macrosystems; Proceedings of a Workshop, September 3-7, 1984

There is an increasing awareness of the important and persuasive role that instability and random, chaotic motion play in the dynamics of macrosystems. Further research in the field should aim at providing useful tools, and therefore the motivation should come from important questions arising in specific macrosystems. Such systems include biochemical networks, genetic mechanisms, biological communities, neutral networks, cognitive processes and economic structures. This list may seem heterogeneous, but there are similarities between evolution in the different fields. It is not surprising that mathematical methods devised in one field can also be used to describe the dynamics of another. IIASA is attempting to make progress in this direction. With this aim in view this workshop was held at Laxenburg over the period 3-7 September 1984. These Proceedings cover a broad canvas, ranging from specific biological and economic problems to general aspects of dynamical systems and evolutionary theory
