The 3D version of the finite element program FESTER
In this report, a detailed description of the 3-D version finite element pro-gram FESTER is given. This includes: 1. A brief introduction to the package FESTER; 2. Preparing an input data file for the 3D version of FESTER; 3. Principal stress and stress invariant analyses; 4. 2D joint element (surface contact) characterisation and its mathematical formulation; 5. Formulations of the 3D stress-strain analyses for both isotropic and anisotropic materials, plane of weakness and cracking criteria; 6. 3D brick elements, infinity elements and their corresponding shape and mapping functions; 7. Large-displacement formulations; 8. Modifications to the subroutines INVAR, JNTB, TMAT, MOD2 etc; 9. Numerical examples; and 10. Conclusions
Meta SOS - A Maude Based SOS Meta-Theory Framework
Meta SOS is a software framework designed to integrate the results from the
meta-theory of structural operational semantics (SOS). These results include
deriving semantic properties of language constructs just by syntactically
analyzing their rule-based definition, as well as automatically deriving sound
and ground-complete axiomatizations for languages, when considering a notion of
behavioural equivalence. This paper describes the Meta SOS framework by
blending aspects from the meta-theory of SOS, details on their implementation

GSOS for non-deterministic processes with quantitative aspects
Recently, some general frameworks have been proposed as unifying theories for
processes combining non-determinism with quantitative aspects (such as
probabilistic or stochastically timed executions), aiming to provide general
results and tools. This paper provides two contributions in this respect.
First, we present a general GSOS specification format (and a corresponding
notion of bisimulation) for non-deterministic processes with quantitative
aspects. These specifications define labelled transition systems according to
the ULTraS model, an extension of the usual LTSs where the transition relation
associates any source state and transition label with state reachability weight
functions (like, e.g., probability distributions). This format, hence called
Weight Function SOS (WFSOS), covers many known systems and their bisimulations
(e.g. PEPA, TIPP, PCSP) and GSOS formats (e.g. GSOS, Weighted GSOS,
Segala-GSOS, among others).
The second contribution is a characterization of these systems as coalgebras
of a class of functors, parametric on the weight structure. This result allows
us to prove soundness of the WFSOS specification format, and that
bisimilarities induced by these specifications are always congruences.Comment: In Proceedings QAPL 2014, arXiv:1406.156
Cadabra: reference guide and tutorial
Cadabra is a computer algebra system for the manipulation of tensorial mathematical expressions such as they occur in “field theory problems”. It is aimed at, but not necessarily restricted to, high-energy physicists. It is constructed as a simple tree-manipulating core, a large collection of standalone algorithmic modules which act on the expression tree, and a set of modules responsible for output of nodes in the tree. All of these parts are written in C++. The input and output formats closely follow TEX, which in many cases means that cadabra is much simpler to use than other similar programs. It intentionally does not contain its own programming language; instead, new functionality is added by writing new modules in C++
Fano 3-folds in codimension 4, Tom and Jerry, Part I
This work is part of the Graded Ring Database project [GRDB], and is a sequel
to [Altinok's 1998 PhD thesis] and [Altinok, Brown and Reid, Fano 3-folds, K3
surfaces and graded rings, in SISTAG (Singapore, 2001), Contemp. Math. 314,
2002, pp. 25-53]. We introduce a strategy based on Kustin-Miller unprojection
that constructs many hundreds of Gorenstein codimension 4 ideals with 9x16
resolutions (that is, 9 equations and 16 first syzygies). Our two basic games
are called Tom and Jerry; the main application is the biregular construction of
most of the anticanonically polarised Mori Fano 3-folds of Altinok's thesis.
There are 115 cases whose numerical data (in effect, the Hilbert series) allow
a Type I projection. In every case, at least one Tom and one Jerry construction
works, providing at least two deformation families of quasismooth Fano 3-folds

A knowledge based application of the extended aircraft interrogation and display system
A family of multiple-processor ground support test equipment was used to test digital flight-control systems on high-performance research aircraft. A unit recently built for the F-18 high alpha research vehicle project is the latest model in a series called the extended aircraft interrogation and display system. The primary feature emphasized monitors the aircraft MIL-STD-1553B data buses and provides real-time engineering units displays of flight-control parameters. A customized software package was developed to provide real-time data interpretation based on rules embodied in a highly structured knowledge database. The configuration of this extended aircraft interrogation and display system is briefly described, and the evolution of the rule based package and its application to failure modes and effects testing on the F-18 high alpha research vehicle is discussed
Importing Vector Graphics: The grImport Package for R
This article describes an approach to importing vector-based graphical images into statistical software as implemented in a package called grImport for the R statistical computing environment. This approach assumes that an original image can be transformed into a PostScript format (i.e., the original image is in a standard vector graphics format such as PostScript, PDF, or SVG). The grImport package consists of three components: a function for converting PostScript files to an R-specific XML format; a function for reading the XML format into special Picture objects in R; and functions for manipulating and drawing Picture objects. Several examples and applications are presented, including annotating a statistical plot with an imported logo and using imported images as plotting symbols.
Lean and Full Congruence Formats for Recursion
In this paper I distinguish two (pre)congruence requirements for semantic
equivalences and preorders on processes given as closed terms in a system
description language with a recursion construct. A lean congruence preserves
equivalence when replacing closed subexpressions of a process by equivalent
alternatives. A full congruence moreover allows replacement within a recursive
specification of subexpressions that may contain recursion variables bound
outside of these subexpressions.
I establish that bisimilarity is a lean (pre)congruence for recursion for all
languages with a structural operational semantics in the ntyft/ntyxt format.
