Hybrid-Vehfog: A Robust Approach for Reliable Dissemination of Critical Messages in Connected Vehicles
Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANET) enable efficient communication between
vehicles with the aim of improving road safety. However, the growing number of
vehicles in dense regions and obstacle shadowing regions like Manhattan and
other downtown areas leads to frequent disconnection problems resulting in
disrupted radio wave propagation between vehicles. To address this issue and to
transmit critical messages between vehicles and drones deployed from service
vehicles to overcome road incidents and obstacles, we proposed a hybrid
technique based on fog computing called Hybrid-Vehfog to disseminate messages
in obstacle shadowing regions, and multi-hop technique to disseminate messages
in non-obstacle shadowing regions. Our proposed algorithm dynamically adapts to
changes in an environment and benefits in efficiency with robust drone
deployment capability as needed. Performance of Hybrid-Vehfog is carried out in
Network Simulator (NS-2) and Simulation of Urban Mobility (SUMO) simulators.
The results showed that Hybrid-Vehfog outperformed Cloud-assisted Message
Downlink Dissemination Scheme (CMDS), Cross-Layer Broadcast Protocol (CLBP),
PEer-to-Peer protocol for Allocated REsource (PrEPARE), Fog-Named Data
Networking (NDN) with mobility, and flooding schemes at all vehicle densities
and simulation times
The Use of Social Media by UK Local Resilience Forums
The potential uses of social media in the field of emergency preparedness, resilience and response (EPRR) are varied and interesting. The UK government have produced guidance documents for its use in the UK EPRR field but evidence of use is poorly documented and appears sporadic. This paper presents the results of a survey of Local Resilience Forums (LRF) in the UK on their use and engagement with social media. The findings suggest that the level of application of social media strategies as emergency planning or response tools varied significantly between the LRFs. While over 90percent of respondents claimed that their LRF used social media as part of their strategy, most of this use was reactive or passive, rather than proactive and systematic. The various strategies employed seem to be linked most strongly to local expertise and the existence of social media ‘champions’ rather than to the directives and guidance emerging from government
A Case for Time Slotted Channel Hopping for ICN in the IoT
Recent proposals to simplify the operation of the IoT include the use of
Information Centric Networking (ICN) paradigms. While this is promising,
several challenges remain. In this paper, our core contributions (a) leverage
ICN communication patterns to dynamically optimize the use of TSCH (Time
Slotted Channel Hopping), a wireless link layer technology increasingly popular
in the IoT, and (b) make IoT-style routing adaptive to names, resources, and
traffic patterns throughout the network--both without cross-layering. Through a
series of experiments on the FIT IoT-LAB interconnecting typical IoT hardware,
we find that our approach is fully robust against wireless interference, and
almost halves the energy consumed for transmission when compared to CSMA. Most
importantly, our adaptive scheduling prevents the time-slotted MAC layer from
sacrificing throughput and delay
THE ROLE OF THE MEDIA IN A DEMOCRATIC COUNTRY
The media is the fourth pillar of democracy after the executive, the legislature and the judiciary. Media as control over the three pillars and underpin their performance with checks and balances. to be able to perform its role should be upheld the freedom of the press in conveying public information in an honest and balanced manner. besides that also to uphold this fourth pillar, the media must also be free from capitalism and politics. Media that does not merely support the interests of the owners of capital and perpetuates political power without considering the interests of the larger society. the possibility of freedom of the press institution that is captured by the interests of capitalism and politics, encourages the spirit of citizen journalism. the term citizen journalism to explain the processing and presentation of news by citizens rather than professional journalists. journalism activities undertaken by citizens as a manifestation of aspirations and the delivery of popular opinion is the background that citizen journalism as part of the press is a means to achieve a democracy
EBP: An Efficient Broadcast Protocol for Warning Message Dissemination in VANETs
Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs) enable vehicle-to-vehicle communications to share relevant road information with various applications. Road safety is one of the main objectives of VANETs that has attracted great interest from researchers. Other so-called
comfort applications have also been studied which can improve driving experience and passenger safety. In all these applications, sharing of warning messages can help drivers minimize accidents and congestions, and plan better itinerary during the congestion situations or the anticipation of potential and highly hazardous events. In this paper, we present an efficient broadcast protocol (EBP) for broadcasting warning messages in VANETs. As an improved strategy for alert data dissemination, EBP can be applied in whatever the nature of the risk, with a particular focus on mobile dangers. We first conduct an in-depth analysis and evaluation, under different conditions, of the existing approaches and mechanisms used for information dissemination in VANETs. Then, we point out their drawbacks and design the EBP to avoid these drawbacks. As a result, the EBP is an improved, well-justified and more effective protocol. We validate it by simulation experiments
under various scenarios
Intelligent Network Management and Functional Cerebellum Synthesis
Transdisciplinary modeling of the cerebellum across histology, physiology, and network engineering provides preliminary results at three organization levels: input/output links to central nervous system networks; links between the six neuron populations in the cerebellum; and computation among the neurons of the populations. Older models probably underestimated the importance and role of climbing fiber input which seems to supply write as well as read signals, not just to Purkinje but also to basket and stellate neurons. The well-known mossy fiber-granule cell-Golgi cell system should also respond to inputs originating from climbing fibers. Corticonuclear microcomplexing might be aided by stellate and basket computation and associate processing. Technological and scientific implications of the proposed cerebellum model are discussed
