GRB 080319B: A Naked-Eye Stellar Blast from the Distant Universe

Long duration gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) release copious amounts of energy across the entire electromagnetic spectrum, and so provide a window into the process of black hole formation from the collapse of a massive star. Over the last forty years, our understanding of the GRB phenomenon has progressed dramatically; nevertheless, fortuitous circumstances occasionally arise that provide access to a regime not yet probed. GRB 080319B presented such an opportunity, with extraordinarily bright prompt optical emission that peaked at a visual magnitude of 5.3, making it briefly visible with the naked eye. It was captured in exquisite detail by wide-field telescopes, imaging the burst location from before the time of the explosion. The combination of these unique optical data with simultaneous gamma-ray observations provides powerful diagnostics of the detailed physics of this explosion within seconds of its formation. Here we show that the prompt optical and gamma-ray emissions from this event likely arise from different spectral components within the same physical region located at a large distance from the source, implying an extremely relativistic outflow. The chromatic behaviour of the broadband afterglow is consistent with viewing the GRB down the very narrow inner core of a two-component jet that is expanding into a wind-like environment consistent with the massive star origin of long GRBs. Finite Difference Solution for Drainage of Heterogeneous Sloping Lands

The two-dimensional problem of tile drainage on sloping heterogeneous lands was considered. The land surface and the impermeable boundaries of the problem were of a general shape. The flow in both the saturated and unsaturated zones was considered and the system was treated as one composite system. The problem was solved by a finite difference numerical method using the successive over-relaxation iterative (SOR) method for the steady state case with no local recharge, and a combined Newton inner iteration and successive over- relaxation outer iteration for the transient state case with local recharge. Both the rising water table and the falling water table cases were simulated. A computer program was written in Fortrain IV Language for this purpose, and a UNIVAC 1108 computer system was used. The results of two runs for a hypothetical problem and one run for a field testing problem are presented. Naturphilosophische Aspekte bei Lesja Ukrainka Mit Rückblik auf Anette von Droste-Hülshoff

Das Gedicht „Am Turme“ von Annette von Droste-Hülshoff (1797- 1848), (Biedermeier, Romantik), ist eine seelische Selbstdarstellung der Dichterin in lyrischer Form und in vergleichbarer Weise wie bei Lesja Ukrainka (1871-1913), (Neormantik, Neoklassik), im Gedicht von San Remo, 8. 11. 1902, ist die Natur darin vernetzt mit der subjektiven Gefühlswelt der Lyrikerin, es entstehen Darstellungen von träumerischen Bildern und Visionen, in welche sich die Gefühlswelt verwandelt. Motivierendes Lebenselement ist bei beiden Poetinnen in der Naturlyrik die Kraft der Natur, die Fähigkeit, deren Pulsieren in allen Lebenslagen zu erschaffen und erspüren, und das Verständnis einer Philosophie der Natur, welche nicht deduktiv beschreibend ist, sondern schöpferisches und geistiges Nachbilden der Natur, etwa im Sinne des Philosophen Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph Schelling (1775- 1854), dessen Naturphilosophie Ende des 17. bis ins 18. und 19. Jahrhundert große Bedeutung erlangte. Über die Natur philosophieren bedeutet ihm die Natur schaffen, sie aus unbelebtem Mechanismus zu befreien und in eigene freie Entwicklung zu versetzen. Schelling überwindet den Dualismus von Geist und Natur nicht im logisch rationalen Denken, sondern durch Kunst und Dichtung, im künstlerischen Vorgehen von Intuition und Phantasie, wie unsere beiden Poetinnen beispielhaft in ihren Gedichten die Natur erschaffen durch ihre Gefühlswelt, Bilder und Visionen
