Multivariate Statistical Process Control Charts: An Overview
In this paper we discuss the basic procedures for the implementation of multivariate statistical process control via control charting. Furthermore, we review multivariate extensions for all kinds of univariate control charts, such as multivariate Shewhart-type control charts, multivariate CUSUM control charts and multivariate EWMA control charts. In addition, we review unique procedures for the construction of multivariate control charts, based on multivariate statistical techniques such as principal components analysis (PCA) and partial lest squares (PLS). Finally, we describe the most significant methods for the interpretation of an out-of-control signal.quality control, process control, multivariate statistical process control, Hotelling's T-square, CUSUM, EWMA, PCA, PLS
Integrating Multiobjective Optimization With The Six Sigma Methodology For Online Process Control
Over the past two decades, the Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control (DMAIC) framework of the Six Sigma methodology and a host of statistical tools have been brought to bear on process improvement efforts in today’s businesses. However, a major challenge of implementing the Six Sigma methodology is maintaining the process improvements and providing real-time performance feedback and control after solutions are implemented, especially in the presence of multiple process performance objectives. The consideration of a multiplicity of objectives in business and process improvement is commonplace and, quite frankly, necessary. However, balancing the collection of objectives is challenging as the objectives are inextricably linked, and, oftentimes, in conflict. Previous studies have reported varied success in enhancing the Six Sigma methodology by integrating optimization methods in order to reduce variability. These studies focus these enhancements primarily within the Improve phase of the Six Sigma methodology, optimizing a single objective. The current research and practice of using the Six Sigma methodology and optimization methods do little to address the real-time feedback and control for online process control in the case of multiple objectives. This research proposes an innovative integrated Six Sigma multiobjective optimization (SSMO) approach for online process control. It integrates the Six Sigma DMAIC framework with a nature-inspired optimization procedure that iteratively perturbs a set of decision variables providing feedback to the online process, eventually converging to a set of tradeoff process configurations that improves and maintains process stability. For proof of concept, the approach is applied to a general business process model – a well-known inventory management model – that is formally defined and specifies various process costs as objective functions. The proposed iv SSMO approach and the business process model are programmed and incorporated into a software platform. Computational experiments are performed using both three sigma (3σ)-based and six sigma (6σ)-based process control, and the results reveal that the proposed SSMO approach performs far better than the traditional approaches in improving the stability of the process. This research investigation shows that the benefits of enhancing the Six Sigma method for multiobjective optimization and for online process control are immense
Integrated Projection and Regression Models for Monitoring Multivariate Autocorrelated Cascade Processes
This dissertation presents a comprehensive methodology of dual monitoring for the multivariate autocorrelated cascade processes using principal component analysis and regression. Principle Components Analysis is used to alleviate the multicollinearity among input process variables and reduce the dimension of the variables. An integrated principal components selection rule is proposed to reduce the number of input variables. An autoregressive time series model is used and imposed on the time correlated output variable which depends on many multicorrelated process input variables. A generalized least squares principal component regression is used to describe the relationship between product and process variables under the autoregressive regression error model. The combined residual based EWMA control chart, applied to the product characteristics, and the MEWMA control charts applied to the multivariate autocorrelated cascade process characteristics, are proposed. The dual EWMA and MEWMA control chart has advantage and capability over the conventional residual type control chart applied to the residuals of the principal component regression by monitoring both product and the process characteristics simultaneously. The EWMA control chart is used to increase the detection performance, especially in the case of small mean shifts. The MEWMA is applied to the selected set of variables from the first principal component with the aim of increasing the sensitivity in detecting process failures. The dual implementation control chart for product and process characteristics enhances both the detection and the prediction performance of the monitoring system of the multivariate autocorrelated cascade processes. The proposed methodology is demonstrated through an example of the sugar-beet pulp drying process. A general guideline for controlling multivariate autocorrelated processes is also developed
Intelligent systems in manufacturing: current developments and future prospects
Global competition and rapidly changing customer requirements are demanding increasing changes in manufacturing environments. Enterprises are required to constantly redesign their products and continuously reconfigure their manufacturing systems. Traditional approaches to manufacturing systems do not fully satisfy this new situation. Many authors have proposed that artificial intelligence will bring the flexibility and efficiency needed by manufacturing systems. This paper is a review of artificial intelligence techniques used in manufacturing systems. The paper first defines the components of a simplified intelligent manufacturing systems (IMS), the different Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques to be considered and then shows how these AI techniques are used for the components of IMS
Reducing the delivery lead time in a food distribution SME through the implementation of six sigma methodology
Purpose – Six sigma is a systematic data driven approach to reduce the defect and improve the quality in any type of business. The purpose of this paper is to present the findings from the application of six sigma in a food service “small to medium sized enterprise” (SME) in a lean environment to reduce the waste in this field.
Design/methodology/approach – A simplified version of six sigma is adopted through the application of appropriate statistical tools in order to focus on customer's requirements to identify the defect, the cause of the defect and improve the delivery process by implementing the optimum solution.
Findings – The result suggests that modification in layout utilization reduced the number of causes of defect by 40 percent resulting in jumping from 1.44 sigma level to 2.09 Sigma level which is substantial improvement in SME.
Research limitations/implications – Simplicity of six sigma is important to enabling any SME to identify the problem and minimize its cause through a systematic approach. Practical implications – Integrating of supply chain objectives with any quality initiatives such as lean and six sigma has a substantial effect on achieving to the targets.
Originality/value – This paper represents a potential area in which six sigma methodology along side the lean management can promote supply chain management objectives for a food distribution SME
A New S-2 Control Chart Using Multiple Dependent State Repetitive Sampling
The combined application of multiple dependent state sampling and the repetitive group sampling (RGS) is an efficient sampling scheme for industrial process monitoring as it combines the advantages of both the sampling schemes. In this paper, a new variance control chart has been proposed, when the interesting quality characteristic follows the normal distribution using the combination of these two efficient sampling schemes called multiple dependent state repetitive sampling. The control chart coefficients and parameters have been estimated through simulation for the in-control process by considering the target in-control average run lengths under different process settings. The efficiency of the proposed chart has been determined by computing the out-of-control ARL for different shift levels. The advantages of the proposed monitoring scheme have been discussed and compared with the existing RGS scheme and the single sampling scheme. A simulated example and a real industrial data have been included to demonstrate the application of the proposed monitoring scheme. It has been observed that the proposed chart is a valuable addition to the toolkit of the quality monitoring personnel.11Ysciescopu

Modelo de apoio à decisão para a manutenção condicionada de equipamentos produtivos
Doctoral Thesis for PhD degree in Industrial and Systems EngineeringIntroduction: This thesis describes a methodology to combine Bayesian control chart
and CBM (Condition-Based Maintenance) for developing a new integrated model. In
maintenance management, it is a challenging task for decision-maker to conduct an
appropriate and accurate decision. Proper and well-performed CBM models are
beneficial for maintenance decision making. The integration of Bayesian control chart
and CBM is considered as an intelligent model and a suitable strategy for forecasting
items failures as well as allow providing an effectiveness maintenance cost. CBM
models provides lower inventory costs for spare parts, reduces unplanned outage, and
minimize the risk of catastrophic failure, avoiding high penalties associated with losses
of production or delays, increasing availability. However, CBM models need new
aspects and the integration of new type of information in maintenance modeling that can
improve the results. Objective: The thesis aims to develop a new methodology based on
Bayesian control chart for predicting failures of item incorporating simultaneously two
types of data: key quality control measurement and equipment condition parameters. In
other words, the project research questions are directed to give the lower maintenance
costs for real process control. Method: The mathematical approach carried out in this
study for developing an optimal Condition Based Maintenance policy included the
Weibull analysis for verifying the Markov property, Delay time concept used for
deterioration modeling and PSO and Monte Carlo simulation. These models are used for
finding the upper control limit and the interval monitoring that minimizes the
(maintenance) cost function. Result: The main contribution of this thesis is that the
proposed model performs better than previous models in which the hypothesis of using
simultaneously data about condition equipment parameters and quality control
measurements improve the effectiveness of integrated model Bayesian control chart for
Condition Based Maintenance.
a disponibilidade.
Resultados: A
