Evaluating the Probability of Channel Availability for Spectrum Sharing using Cognitive Radio
Spectrum sharing between service providers improves the spectral efficiency, probability efficiency of sensing and reduces the call blockage. If the number of service providers is increased to share the spectrum, this may reduce the high traffic patterns of the calls. In this paper, we present an approach for channel availability and call arrival rate. The results are used to evaluate the probability of the channel availability of a frequency band within a time period. In this work, we propose an algorithm for predicting the call arrival rate which used to predict the traffic process
Deep Learning Meets Cognitive Radio: Predicting Future Steps
Learning the channel occupancy patterns to reuse
the underutilised spectrum frequencies without interfering with
the incumbent is a promising approach to overcome the spectrum
limitations. In this work we proposed a Deep Learning (DL)
approach to learn the channel occupancy model and predict its
availability in the next time slots. Our results show that the
proposed DL approach outperforms existing works by 5%. We
also show that our proposed DL approach predicts the availability
of channels accurately for more than one time slot
A Survey of Anticipatory Mobile Networking: Context-Based Classification, Prediction Methodologies, and Optimization Techniques
A growing trend for information technology is to not just react to changes, but anticipate them as much as possible. This paradigm made modern solutions, such as recommendation systems, a ubiquitous presence in today's digital transactions. Anticipatory networking extends the idea to communication technologies by studying patterns and periodicity in human behavior and network dynamics to optimize network performance. This survey collects and analyzes recent papers leveraging context information to forecast the evolution of network conditions and, in turn, to improve network performance. In particular, we identify the main prediction and optimization tools adopted in this body of work and link them with objectives and constraints of the typical applications and scenarios. Finally, we consider open challenges and research directions to make anticipatory networking part of next generation networks
Recurrent Neural Networks and Matrix Methods for Cognitive Radio Spectrum Prediction and Security
In this work, machine learning tools, including recurrent neural networks (RNNs), matrix completion, and non-negative matrix factorization (NMF), are used for cognitive radio problems. Specifically addressed are a missing data problem and a blind signal separation problem. A specialized RNN called Cellular Simultaneous Recurrent Network (CSRN), typically used in image processing applications, has been modified. The CRSN performs well for spatial spectrum prediction of radio signals with missing data. An algorithm called soft-impute for matrix completion used together with an RNN performs well for missing data problems in the radio spectrum time-frequency domain. Estimating missing spectrum data can improve cognitive radio efficiency. An NMF method called tuning pruning is used for blind source separation of radio signals in simulation. An NMF optimization technique using a geometric constraint is proposed to limit the solution space of blind signal separation. Both NMF methods are promising in addressing a security problem known as spectrum sensing data falsification attack
Thirty Years of Machine Learning: The Road to Pareto-Optimal Wireless Networks
Future wireless networks have a substantial potential in terms of supporting
a broad range of complex compelling applications both in military and civilian
fields, where the users are able to enjoy high-rate, low-latency, low-cost and
reliable information services. Achieving this ambitious goal requires new radio
techniques for adaptive learning and intelligent decision making because of the
complex heterogeneous nature of the network structures and wireless services.
Machine learning (ML) algorithms have great success in supporting big data
analytics, efficient parameter estimation and interactive decision making.
Hence, in this article, we review the thirty-year history of ML by elaborating
on supervised learning, unsupervised learning, reinforcement learning and deep
learning. Furthermore, we investigate their employment in the compelling
applications of wireless networks, including heterogeneous networks (HetNets),
cognitive radios (CR), Internet of things (IoT), machine to machine networks
(M2M), and so on. This article aims for assisting the readers in clarifying the
motivation and methodology of the various ML algorithms, so as to invoke them
for hitherto unexplored services as well as scenarios of future wireless
networks.Comment: 46 pages, 22 fig
Cognitive Radio Systems
Cognitive radio is a hot research area for future wireless communications in the recent years. In order to increase the spectrum utilization, cognitive radio makes it possible for unlicensed users to access the spectrum unoccupied by licensed users. Cognitive radio let the equipments more intelligent to communicate with each other in a spectrum-aware manner and provide a new approach for the co-existence of multiple wireless systems. The goal of this book is to provide highlights of the current research topics in the field of cognitive radio systems. The book consists of 17 chapters, addressing various problems in cognitive radio systems
Green Cellular Networks: A Survey, Some Research Issues and Challenges
Energy efficiency in cellular networks is a growing concern for cellular
operators to not only maintain profitability, but also to reduce the overall
environment effects. This emerging trend of achieving energy efficiency in
cellular networks is motivating the standardization authorities and network
operators to continuously explore future technologies in order to bring
improvements in the entire network infrastructure. In this article, we present
a brief survey of methods to improve the power efficiency of cellular networks,
explore some research issues and challenges and suggest some techniques to
enable an energy efficient or "green" cellular network. Since base stations
consume a maximum portion of the total energy used in a cellular system, we
will first provide a comprehensive survey on techniques to obtain energy
savings in base stations. Next, we discuss how heterogeneous network deployment
based on micro, pico and femto-cells can be used to achieve this goal. Since
cognitive radio and cooperative relaying are undisputed future technologies in
this regard, we propose a research vision to make these technologies more
energy efficient. Lastly, we explore some broader perspectives in realizing a
"green" cellular network technologyComment: 16 pages, 5 figures, 2 table
