future. This thesis studies the behavior of particles that are maximal at time t in
branching random walk and branching Brownian motion on R, for large values of
t. Precisely, we look at the behavior of the maximum in a branching random walk
in a time-inhomogeneous environment, where the law of the increments varies
with respect to time. We compare with known or simplified models such as the
model where random walks are taken to be i.i.d. and the branching random walk
in a time-homogeneous environment model. We then take a look at the correlations
between maximal particles in a branching brownian motion. Specifically, we
look at the branching time between those maximal particles. Finally, we apply
results and methods from the first chapters to study those same correlations in
branching Brownian motion in a inhomogeneous environment. The thesis’ main
result establishes existence of branching time at the center of the interval [0, t] for
the branching Brownian motion in a inhomogeneous environment, which is not
the case for standard branching brownian motion. We also present results of simulations
that agree with theoretical results and help establishing new hypotheses
for future research
This thesis falls within the field of limit theorems for Markov chains. We consider sequences of Markov chains, and focus on proving double asymptotics for such processes as both the time and the index in the sequence tend to infinity. In a first phase we will focus on the prisonners model in which a finite number of random walkers are constrained to stay close to each other. Our goal is to determine the limit behavior as the time and the number of prisonners is increasing, using the Hodge decomposition of an additive functionnal of a random walk on a finite graph, in line with previous work of Boissard, Cohen, Espinasse and Norris. Then we develop a generalisation of this model in which the Hodge decomposition can be used to prove limit theorem in double asymptotics. Finally we will consider two other models - the random walks in graphite and the -dimensional hypercubes - in which the previous techniques allow us to prove scaling limits in both contexts
Bayesian Inference of Online Social Network Statistics via Lightweight Random Walk Crawls
Online social networks (OSN) contain extensive amount of information about
the underlying society that is yet to be explored. One of the most feasible
technique to fetch information from OSN, crawling through Application
Programming Interface (API) requests, poses serious concerns over the the
guarantees of the estimates. In this work, we focus on making reliable
statistical inference with limited API crawls. Based on regenerative properties
of the random walks, we propose an unbiased estimator for the aggregated sum of
functions over edges and proved the connection between variance of the
estimator and spectral gap. In order to facilitate Bayesian inference on the
true value of the estimator, we derive the approximate posterior distribution
of the estimate. Later the proposed ideas are validated with numerical
experiments on inference problems in real-world networks
Mesurer la similarité structurelle entre réseaux lexicaux
International audienceIn this paper, we compare the topological structure of lexical networks with a method based on randomwalks. Instead of characterising pairs of vertices according only to whether they are connected or not, we measure theirstructural proximity by evaluating the relative probability of reaching one vertex from the other via a short random walk. This proximity between vertices is the basis on which we can compare the topological structure of lexical networks be-cause it outlines the similar dense zones of the graphs.
