    Reliability and Data Analysis of Wearout Mechanisms for Circuits

    The objective of this research is to develop methodologies for the failure analysis of circuits, as well as investigate the factors for accelerating testing for front-end-of-line time-dependent dielectric breakdown (FEOL TDDB). The separation of wearout mechanisms for circuits will be investigated, and the identification of failure modes for the failure samples will be analyzed. SRAMs and ring oscillators will be used to study the failure modes. The systematic and random errors for online monitoring of SRAMS will also be examined. Furthermore, the testing plans for acceleration testing will also be explored for ring oscillators. Error reduction through sampling will also be used to find the best testing conditions for accelerated testing. This work provides a way for engineers to better understand aging monitoring of circuits, and to design better testing to collect failure data.Ph.D

    A systematic literature review on the use of artificial intelligence in energy self-management in smart buildings

    Buildings are one of the main consumers of energy in cities, which is why a lot of research has been generated around this problem. Especially, the buildings energy management systems must improve in the next years. Artificial intelligence techniques are playing and will play a fundamental role in these improvements. This work presents a systematic review of the literature on researches that have been done in recent years to improve energy management systems for smart building using artificial intelligence techniques. An originality of the work is that they are grouped according to the concept of "Autonomous Cycles of Data Analysis Tasks", which defines that an autonomous management system requires specialized tasks, such as monitoring, analysis, and decision-making tasks for reaching objectives in the environment, like improve the energy efficiency. This organization of the work allows us to establish not only the positioning of the researches, but also, the visualization of the current challenges and opportunities in each domain.     Overcoming Human Trafficking via Operations Research and Analytics: Opportunities for Methods, Models, and Applications

    Human trafficking is a transnational complex societal and economic issue. While human trafficking has been studied in a variety of contexts, including criminology, sociological, and clinical domains, to date there has been very little coverage in the operations research (OR) and analytics community. This paper highlights how operations research and analytics techniques can be used to address the growing issue of human trafficking. It is intended to give insight to operations research and analytics professionals into the unique concerns, problems, and challenges in human trafficking; the relevance of OR and analytics to key pillars of human trafficking including prevention, protection, and prosecution; and to discuss opportunities for OR and analytics to make a difference in the human trafficking domain. We maintain that a profound need exists to explore how operations research and analytics can be effectively leveraged to combat human trafficking, and set forth this call to action to inhibit its pervasiveness

    Customers in different industries, such as marine, oil & gas, and energy sectors, are demanding more advanced and tailored services to match maintenance activities with their business needs and to optimize operating expenditures and inventory of the facilities without compromising reliability. Reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) is a well-known method in the industry for systematically analyzing and modifying standard maintenance plans to optimize asset availability and minimize total cost of ownership. Research question: How to develop a systematic method to analyze customers’ asset and business to optimize maintenance plan for long term service agreement? For answering the question, research is performed with a qualitative method (interviews) and design science (DS) method. Interviewed persons are: A specialist from Wärtsilä Marine Business Asset Management Services and Reliability Specialist from Ramentor Oy. Design science is information technology-based outcome of research. The purpose of this study is to execute a servitization model for the services agreements business. The focus is to develop a maintenance analysis process for life cycle solutions for preventing the unexpected failures and their consequences as a part of the RCM process. Monitoring, collecting and processing data is a key factor to success. The best equipment for real-time monitoring and collecting data is performed by using IoT (internet of things) solutions. Key findings of the study revealed that case company should develop and document a streamlined RCM process to create tailored maintenance plans of customers’ assets, considering installation configuration and customer’s business needs.     Reliability considerations for communication satellites

    A detailed program covering all phases of reliability for a communication satellite was presented. In long mission programs such as this one, reliability is the prime consideration in assuring a successful accomplishment of the stringent goals set forth. Reliability principles and methods were incorporated in delineating each major task in the program. These principles and methods not only aided the reliability personnel in performing their duties better, but also assisted the design group, manufacturing personnel, and the testing and evaluation group in performing their jobs efficiently by being aware and knowledgeable of reliability engineering. Various reliability disciplines were imposed, as requirements, on the different groups assigned to the high reliability program. As each group in the program organization became aware of the many problems encountered in this type of program, the reliability personnel worked with each one, incorporating the methods and controls of reliability. These methods and controls aided the design group in designing a system with reliability as the prime consideration. The manufacturing personnel received training and indoctrination instructions in reliability practices, thus enabling them to build a system at the highest level of reliability. The testing and evaluation group used reliability and statistical analysis techniques in their testing programs to check out the design and manufacturing of the satellite. The results and accomplishments speak for themselves. Checking the record to date shows a very successful phase of communications by way of satellite. The feasibility of satellite communications has been proven and the future for more sophisticated techniques looks excellent
