    MPEG surround merupakan salah satu standar pengkodean audio multikanal yang populer digunakan saat ini. Seiring dengan perkembangan teknologi audiovisual, upaya-upaya untuk meningkatkan kinerja codec MPEG surround terus dilakukan. Pada bahasan beberapa tulisan sebelumya, MPEG surround diusulkan dengan konfigurasi close loop spatial audio coding. Konfigurasi ini diusulkan karena mampu meminimalkan distorsi dan menekan error quantisasi pada proses downmix sehingga dapat menghasilkan sinyal rekonstruksi audio multikanal yang lebih baik. Namun, penerapan konfigurasi loop tertutup ini secara langsung ke codec MPEG surround masih menemui kendala disisi filterbank nya, yang mana penggunaan filterbank standar MPEG surround menyebabkan terjadinya fractional delay ketika proses sinkronisasi antara sinyal audio asli dengan sinyal audio target. Solusi dalam mengatasi fractional delay adalah dengan menerapkan rancangan balanced-delay filterbank pada konfigurasi loop tertutup ini. Di percobaan kali ini penerapan rancangan balanced-delay filterbank akan dikodekan menggunakan pengkodean audio 22 kanal. Penggunaan pengkodean audio 22 kanal ini, memungkinkan terjadinya proses reproduksi sinyal audio yang berkualitas tinggi sehingga bunyi suara yang lebih realistis dapat dihasilkan.     Software Defined Media: Virtualization of Audio-Visual Services

    Internet-native audio-visual services are witnessing rapid development. Among these services, object-based audio-visual services are gaining importance. In 2014, we established the Software Defined Media (SDM) consortium to target new research areas and markets involving object-based digital media and Internet-by-design audio-visual environments. In this paper, we introduce the SDM architecture that virtualizes networked audio-visual services along with the development of smart buildings and smart cities using Internet of Things (IoT) devices and smart building facilities. Moreover, we design the SDM architecture as a layered architecture to promote the development of innovative applications on the basis of rapid advancements in software-defined networking (SDN). Then, we implement a prototype system based on the architecture, present the system at an exhibition, and provide it as an SDM API to application developers at hackathons. Various types of applications are developed using the API at these events.     MPEG Surround merupakan salah satu spatial audio coding yang telah distandarisasi secara internasional. Dua jenis modul pada MPEG Surround standar di antaranya adalah modul One-to-Two (OTT) dan modul Two-to-Three (TTT). Kelemahan menggunakan modul tersebut ialah sinyal mengalami distorsi beberapa kali karena blok modul yang tersusun bertingkat. Pada penelitian ini dilakukan perancangan modul One-to-Five (OTF) untuk mentransmisikan sinyal audio multikanal dengan menggunakan satu kanal. Berdasarkan nilai ODG, kualitas audio secara perceptual yang dihasilkan modul OTF memiliki perbedaan yang tidak signifikan senilai -0,14. Penggunaan modul OTF untuk spatial audio coding meningkatkan Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) senilai 0,01 dB jika dibandingkan dengan MPEG Surround yang menggunakan modul OTT. Berdasarkan kenaikan SNR ini, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan modul OTF dapat menjadi alternatif pengkodean audio multikanal untuk spatial audio coding

    IPEA: the digital archive use case

    Now is the time to migrate tape-based media archives to digital file-based archives for television broadcasters. These archives not only address the issue of tape-deterioration, they also create new possibilities for opening up the archive. However, the switch from tape-based to file-based is something only the very big television broadcasters can manage individually. Outer- broadcasters should work together to accomplish this task. In the Flemish part of Belgium, the two largest broadcasters in Flanders, namely the commercial broadcaster VMMa and the public broadcaster VRT, the television facilities supporting company Videohouse, and different university research groups associated with the Interdisciplinary Institute for Broadband Technology joined forces and started the "Innovative Platform on Electronic Archiving" project. The goal of this project is to develop common standards for the exchange and archiving of audio-visual data. In this paper, we give a detailed overview of this project and its different research topics
