Looking at a digital research data archive - Visual interfaces to EASY
In this paper we explore visually the structure of the collection of a
digital research data archive in terms of metadata for deposited datasets. We
look into the distribution of datasets over different scientific fields; the
role of main depositors (persons and institutions) in different fields, and
main access choices for the deposited datasets. We argue that visual analytics
of metadata of collections can be used in multiple ways: to inform the archive
about structure and growth of its collection; to foster collections strategies;
and to check metadata consistency. We combine visual analytics and visual
enhanced browsing introducing a set of web-based, interactive visual interfaces
to the archive's collection. We discuss how text based search combined with
visual enhanced browsing enhances data access, navigation, and reuse.Comment: Submitted to the TPDL 201

Candidate Success and edTPA: Looking at the Data
This descriptive study looks at the correlations between Teacher Performance Assessment (edTPA) data and numerous program data points, including GPA, major GPA, and benchmark assignment scores, gathered in an Early Childhood Education (ECE) program. Previous studies have looked to correlate grade point average (GPA) with pre-service teacher performance; however, correlating studentsâ benchmark assessment scores and student performance on edTPA has not been attempted. This study looks to determine the relationships between overall GPA, major GPA (Early Childhood Education), and edTPA performance (overall score and task scores). Relationships were also investigated between program benchmark assessments (case study, family culture project, integrated investigation unit, student teaching evaluation) and edTPA performance (overall score and task scores). Findings suggest a relationship between overall GPA and edTPA overall score as well as GPA and individual edTPA task scores. In exploring benchmark assignments, correlations were found between the Integrated Investigation Unit and overall edTPA score and edTPA Task 1 and 3 scores

Preliminary investigation of pilot scanning techniques of dial pointing instruments
Two pilots' methods of looking at instruments with needle pointers in a fixed base helicopter simulation were observed. A total of 45 runs were analyzed for each pilot. The data indicated that two apparently different techniques were being used; one looking at the needle point, the other looking at a fixed spot on the instrument and reading the needle direction parafoveally. The latter technique is found to be somewhat faster with both pilots accomplishing the flying task
The Analysis of Forward-Looking Monetary Policy in a SVAR Framework
This paper analyzes forward-looking monetary policy rules in structural VARâs. First, an approach for modeling a monetary policy which aims at a strict medium term inflation or output growth target is developed. Second, the ex ante inflation-output-growth volatility trade-off for a forward-looking policy aiming at a convex combination these strategies is derived. Finally, an illustration of our approach using Swiss data is given.Structural VAR, forward-looking monetary policy, efficiency frontier
Looking at Some Data from Isardâs âMethods of Regional Analysisâ
Isard has argued for greater presentation of empirical data in regional studies by displaying tables and
geographical maps. In this note his suggestion is followed by displaying two sets of computer maps using tables

A Study of the Effects of Foreign Direct Investment on the Economy of the State of New Hampshire Since 1973
The purpose of the thesis is to determine the impact that foreign direct investment has had on New Hampshire. New Hampshire as a state was impacted far less severely than much of the rest of the country, which could be considered surprising given the relatively high cost of housing in the state. I believe that part of what made New Hampshire more recession resistant is having the right foreign companies providing employment. To do this, I will be looking at FDI as a percentage of GDP over the previous 40 years and looking for a correlation between a higher percentage and national recession. I will also look at specific foreign corporations that lend the most to the New Hampshire economy to obtain a more specific view of the impact such companies have on both their communities and the state as a whole. This data could prove useful to New Hampshire as well as other states looking to protect against recession, as well as corporations looking to justify FDI to various governments
Production costs across the EU in 2006
We have recently been involved in an EU project which is looking at farm accountancy cost estimation, the FACEPA (Farm Accountancy Cost Estimation and Policy Analysis of European Agriculture) project. Our part of this project was a relatively small section but very interesting as it involved looking at costs of production for a variety of organic products across several EU countries. The main products considered were milk, wheat and potatoes and the countries were UK, Denmark, Sweden, Poland, France, Italy, and Netherlands. The data were obtained for the year 2006 and all currencies were converted to Euros for ease of comparison. The main lessons learnt from this project (and found by previous authors prior to this) were that there is great variation between countries both in terms of costs and in terms of data collection
