Formal Safety and Security Assessment of an Avionic Architecture with Alloy
We propose an approach based on Alloy to formally model and assess a system
architecture with respect to safety and security requirements. We illustrate
this approach by considering as a case study an avionic system developed by
Thales, which provides guidance to aircraft. We show how to define in Alloy a
metamodel of avionic architectures with a focus on failure propagations. We
then express the specific architecture of the case study in Alloy. Finally, we
express and check properties that refer to the robustness of the architecture

Industry workshop on large space structures: Executive summary
A NASA-sponsored Industry Workshop on Large Space Structures was convened at Langley Research Center on 24-26 February 1976. A number of structures specialists from seven major aerospace companies participated. Predictions about the future structures to be fabricated/assembled/erected in space are presented along with a composite appraisal of what the Aerospace Industry views as the critical structural technology developments needed to support NASA space missions in the 1985-2000 time frame

To place FES into a context, a review of some related research directions is presented. This review includes such concepts as systems of systems, cyber-physical systems, ubiquitous

Combined automotive safety and security pattern engineering approach
Automotive systems will exhibit increased levels of automation as well as ever tighter integration with other vehicles, traffic infrastructure, and cloud services. From safety perspective, this can be perceived as boon or bane - it greatly increases complexity and uncertainty, but at the same time opens up new opportunities for realizing innovative safety functions. Moreover, cybersecurity becomes important as additional concern because attacks are now much more likely and severe. However, there is a lack of experience with security concerns in context of safety engineering in general and in automotive safety departments in particular. To address this problem, we propose a systematic pattern-based approach that interlinks safety and security patterns and provides guidance with respect to selection and combination of both types of patterns in context of system engineering. A combined safety and security pattern engineering workflow is proposed to provide systematic guidance to support non-expert engineers based on best practices. SecMon: End-to-End Quality and Security Monitoring System
The Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is becoming a more available and
popular way of communicating for Internet users. This also applies to
Peer-to-Peer (P2P) systems and merging these two have already proven to be
successful (e.g. Skype). Even the existing standards of VoIP provide an
assurance of security and Quality of Service (QoS), however, these features are
usually optional and supported by limited number of implementations. As a
result, the lack of mandatory and widely applicable QoS and security guaranties
makes the contemporary VoIP systems vulnerable to attacks and network
disturbances. In this paper we are facing these issues and propose the SecMon
system, which simultaneously provides a lightweight security mechanism and
improves quality parameters of the call. SecMon is intended specially for VoIP
service over P2P networks and its main advantage is that it provides
authentication, data integrity services, adaptive QoS and (D)DoS attack
detection. Moreover, the SecMon approach represents a low-bandwidth consumption
solution that is transparent to the users and possesses a self-organizing
capability. The above-mentioned features are accomplished mainly by utilizing
two information hiding techniques: digital audio watermarking and network
steganography. These techniques are used to create covert channels that serve
as transport channels for lightweight QoS measurement's results. Furthermore,
these metrics are aggregated in a reputation system that enables best route
path selection in the P2P network. The reputation system helps also to mitigate
(D)DoS attacks, maximize performance and increase transmission efficiency in
