Impact of cognitive load associated with learning and using parametric tools in architectural design
This research aims to explore the impact of cognitive load associated with parametric tools on design ideation. Cognitive Load Theory refers to leveraged
resources in limited working memory. In design, benefits have been found in higher load situations. However, semantic processing, associated with
learning processes, has shown negative impact on the design outcome. Because of the rapid evolution of software, computational expertise tends to be
increasingly transient, and architects find themselves in a situation where they constantly must partially re-learn their tools. Only few research takes
the mental activity associated with digital environments into account, especially more complex ones such as parametric. Furthermore, there is no trace
of research regarding how mental load associated with learning can affect design production. This paper focuses on an elective master course on
computational design for architects. Both retrospective and concurrent protocol analysis are used in combination with the function behaviour structure
ontology and linkography We observe that most of the cognitive effort is geared towards resolving issues related to using parametric tools, which is
contradictory to previous studies. We find that their use of over-constrained experimental environments does not enable them to capture the learning
related cognitive activity. Thus, it raises the question of experimental settings and research methodology regarding cognition in the digital age
STUDENTS’ PERCEPTIONS: ENHANCING VOCABULARY MASTERY THROUGH VOCABULARY CARDS BANK PROJECT ON INSTAGRAM
This study investigated how students are stimulated to improve their vocabulary through the Vocabulary Card Bank project on Instagram and how they perceive it. The students were instructed to create their vocabulary cards weekly for one semester on Instagram. In this mixed-method study, the participants were first-year students in English Language Education Department at Universitas Internasional Batam. All data were collected using a questionnaire and interview. The findings showed that the majority of the students who participated in this study recognize the Vocabulary Cards Bank Project has many benefits as it can improve their vocabulary and write sentences in English. The vocabulary card posted on Instagram helped them find new English words other than textbooks and dictionaries. The results of this study are expected to motivate prospective English teachers and future researchers to apply other methods in teaching English. Keywords: Vocabulary Cards Bank, Teaching Vocabulary, English Teaching, Instagra
IPS’ Technology and Industrial Management graduate course: an improvement process
The key activities to achieve quality (satisfaction of needs and expectations of customers) move increasingly to the previous phases to service delivery and particularly to the organization's interface with the market, where the most appropriate techniques and methodologies will have to identify what customers want, and perceive the quality and what features the services must have, as well as the price they are willing to pay. The Technology and Industrial Management (TIG) course of Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal, Portugal (IPS), is a four year graduate course organized by quarters with three courses per quarter. In the last two quarters internships or real context projects prepare students for a smoother integration in the professional activity. From its beginning, in 2007, TIG was designed for active adults who develop their professional activity in industrial entities, and need to supplement their skills with those of managers and engineers. The B-learning methodology was adopted since it enabled the targeted students to better reconcile their academic, professional and family responsibilities.
In 2010-2011 the first TIG students concluded their graduate studies and, within IPS’ Integrated Management System, it was decided to monitor the suitability of the TIG course curriculum. There is, then, the question of what is and what is intended for an technology course, to an active adults in a region like Setúbal and in a polytechnic . This question corresponds to the first phase of QFD, where is therefore necessary to define the characteristic parameters of each profile that meet the expectations and needs of students and other stakeholders.
If the question of the requirements of the course interacts with the objectives of the students, those requirements interact with the curricular content of their curricula. We are, therefore, in the second phase of QFD. The way the course is implemented will influence the means to administer the various components of the curricula, also determining the significant upfront investments in infrastructure and equipment facilities (laboratories, workshops, equipment, consumables), and will also influence the teaching-learning methods. The measurement conditions for the provision of the service, including monitoring of students, the way it measures the satisfaction of stakeholders and the availability of the facilities already include the third and fourth phases of QFD.
With this methodology we expect to have the guidelines to improve the curriculum, teaching-learning methods and operating conditions of TIG course towards meeting the needs of stakeholders.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Mul-GAD: a semi-supervised graph anomaly detection framework via aggregating multi-view information
Anomaly detection is defined as discovering patterns that do not conform to
the expected behavior. Previously, anomaly detection was mostly conducted using
traditional shallow learning techniques, but with little improvement. As the
emergence of graph neural networks (GNN), graph anomaly detection has been
greatly developed. However, recent studies have shown that GNN-based methods
encounter challenge, in that no graph anomaly detection algorithm can perform
generalization on most datasets. To bridge the tap, we propose a multi-view
fusion approach for graph anomaly detection (Mul-GAD). The view-level fusion
captures the extent of significance between different views, while the
feature-level fusion makes full use of complementary information. We
theoretically and experimentally elaborate the effectiveness of the fusion
strategies. For a more comprehensive conclusion, we further investigate the
effect of the objective function and the number of fused views on detection
performance. Exploiting these findings, our Mul-GAD is proposed equipped with
fusion strategies and the well-performed objective function. Compared with
other state-of-the-art detection methods, we achieve a better detection
performance and generalization in most scenarios via a series of experiments
conducted on Pubmed, Amazon Computer, Amazon Photo, Weibo and Books. Our code

Damn Right Design: A Proposal of a Creative Platform to Facilitate Socially Responsible Graphic Design
This thesis argues that the discipline of graphic design still lacks awareness of the significant role it plays in addressing social problems. In social (graphic) design projects, designers move away from the more conventional design practice that takes place within an advertising agency or design firm, to work together with different organizations to address diverse social issues by contributing with their skills skills that are much more than make things look nice. I claim that designers havent realized the importance of their visual skills to help in such causes. Through Damn Right Design, this thesis proposes a creative, graphic design focused platform that aims at helping graphic designers to understand how they can be of use in addressing projects for communities or social organizations. Its goal is also guiding designers to ponder over their attitudes, and how to implement design thinking tools in mindful ways
