Large Peg-Army Maneuvers
Despite its long history, the classical game of peg solitaire continues to
attract the attention of the scientific community. In this paper, we consider
two problems with an algorithmic flavour which are related with this game,
namely Solitaire-Reachability and Solitaire-Army. In the first one, we show
that deciding whether there is a sequence of jumps which allows a given initial
configuration of pegs to reach a target position is NP-complete. Regarding
Solitaire-Army, the aim is to successfully deploy an army of pegs in a given
region of the board in order to reach a target position. By solving an
auxiliary problem with relaxed constraints, we are able to answer some open
questions raised by Cs\'ak\'any and Juh\'asz (Mathematics Magazine, 2000). To
appreciate the combinatorial beauty of our solutions, we recommend to visit the

Analysis of potential helicopter vibration reduction concepts
Results of analytical investigations to develop, understand, and evaluate potential helicopter vibration reduction concepts are presented in the following areas: identification of the fundamental sources of vibratory loads, blade design for low vibration, application of design optimization techniques, active higher harmonic control, blade appended aeromechanical devices, and the prediction of vibratory airloads. Primary sources of vibration are identified for a selected four-bladed articulated rotor operating in high speed level flight. The application of analytical design procedures and optimization techniques are shown to have the potential for establishing reduced vibration blade designs through variations in blade mass and stiffness distributions, and chordwise center-of-gravity location

Biosurgicals and Trauma
Hemorrhage plays a prominent role in the outcome of trauma patients, from initial injury, through resuscitation, and stabilization. Biosurgicals have recently drawn attention to both the control of bleeding and chronic wound management. However, their role will be examined here in the context of adjuncts to control preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative bleeding in trauma. A review of the scientific literature relevant to the use of passive and active topical hemostatic devices, as well as systemic pharmacologic agents, for control of hemorrhage is provided, in both military and civilian contexts. Bibliometric publication patterns and published guidelines are examined to identify the range of individual products available and the degree of attention they receive in the management of acute traumatic injuries. It is imperative that the evidentiary basis for the use of these agents be weighed against their cost and potential risks
