    Comparative Study Between Chinese and Western Culture in Kung Fu Panda 2

    Kung Fu Panda 2 is a typical cinematographic works of the perfect integration of Sino-western culture. Through interpreted and understood Chinese traditional culture, this film is intertwined with western cultural elements, which convey the core ideas of multicultural coexistence and prompting mutual development of culture in Chinese and western culture collision. On the culture and idea side, Kung Fu Panda 2 is the film which is integrated with Chinese and western culture successfully and delivers the culture. Based on this point, through comparative study between Chinese and Western culture in Kung Fu Panda 2, this paper further summarizes the enlightenment from this film to Chinese culture development.

    AbstrakPenelitian ini membahas tentang teknik terjemahan yang diterapkan dalam Tuturan Po Pada Sub-Judul Kung Fu Panda 3 dengan pendekatan pragmatik. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah: (1) mengidentifikasi teknik terjemahan yang paling banyak digunakan, (2) mengevaluasi hasil ideologi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Data dalam penelitian ini adalah Sub-Judul Kung Fu Panda 3 dan hanya fokus pada tuturan Po. Po adalah tokoh utama dalam film ini. Ada 151  tuturan Po yang digunakan sebagai data. Sub-judul tuturan Po dianalisis dengan teknik terjemahan oleh Molina & Albir (2002). Dan, metode penilaian kualitas hasil terjemahan oleh Nababan dll (2012) dan difokuskan pada keakuratannya. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan ada 11 teknik yang diterapkan dalam Sub-Judul Kung Fu Panda 3 Pada Tuturan Po. Yaitu, kesepadanan lazim 327 kali (52,88%), harfiah 50 kali (12,58%), variasi 73 kali (12,25%), peminjaman murni 45 kali (7,55%), reduksi 20 kali (4,87%), penambahan 25 kali (4,19%), modulasi 16 kali (2,68%), eksplisitasi 15 kali (2,52%), peminjaman alamiah 9 kali (1,68%), kreasi diskursif dan transposisi dua kali (0,33%).Kata kunci: teknik terjemahan, tuturan, Kung Fu Panda 3

    Kung Fu Panda - A Good Story Well Done

    Storytelling is incredibly important in the everyday lives of humans. Over the course of history, the methods of storytelling have advanced much in the same way society has advanced. However, the constant components of a good story and classic literature have never changed: enticing plots, courageous heroes, and narrative beauty. One of the most popular, modern methods for storytelling for both young and old alike is the animated motion picture. The Kung Fu Panda movies are a series of animated children’s movies created by Dreamworks Animation studios that have witnessed great success in box offices worldwide. However, the journey of Po, the unlikely kung fu master in the Kung Fu Panda franchise, is not a story commonly associated with classical, timeless literature. This paper discusses whether the Kung Fu Panda movies can be considered a modern, animated interpretation of a story with a classic foundation. The discussion considers several aspects of the story. The first consists of a comparison of Po’s journey as a hero to the traditional steps identified by Joseph Campbell in The Hero With a Thousand Faces. The second consists of an analysis of the plot and emotional story arcs. The last aspect explored is the symbolism and depiction of the Asian martial art culture. The paper concludes the Kung Fu Panda movies demonstrate classic storytelling through Po’s traditional journey as a hero, the consistent and cohesive adherence to plot structure and familiar story arcs and beautiful depictions of Asian martial art culture and symbolism

    The tittle of this research is “Budaya Perilaku dalam Film Kung Fu Panda 3sutradara Alessandro carloni dan Jennifer Yuh Nelson”. The researcher analyzed the characteristic and cultural behaviour from the main character. The method that was in the research was qualitative with descriptive analyses by objective approach. The problems identified in this research were characteristic and cultural behaviour from the main character in Kung Fu Panda 3 by Alessandro Carloni and Jennifer yuh Nelson. Kung Fu Panda is an animation film produce by DreamWorks Animation. DreamWorks Animation produces several sequel from Kung Fu Panda Film, one of them is Kung Fu Panda 3. This film tells about a panda named Po who should save all people from Kai. As a dragon warrior, Po faced a lot challanges, one of them is to know his true identity. In this research the writer found three parts of Po characteristic, among them is physiology, It is appearance. From sociology there are Po as a adopted child, Po as a the son of the merchant, Po as a dragon warrior and Po as a kung fu teacher. The last one from psychology is childishness, cheerful, confident, stubbornness, struggle, willingness to sacrifice, and responsibilities. Po lives in the Chinese, there are several behavioral cultures which Po possesses among others; Po's usual habits consist of a way of honoring that is done by bending the body with hands in front of the chest and eating manner that always use chopsticks when eating a variety of foods. In faith, Po holds the principle of yin and yang, Phylosophy of life, honor ancestoral, believe in spirit realm and energy flow (chi). Po also has a high work ethic, he will always work hard to achieve his goals. As the son of a merchant, Po is also required to help his father's business. The conclusion from this research is Po, as a main character in this film has kind of characteristic which can amuse the audience. Po also show many Chinese behavior cultural in every action and conversation with another character in the film

This objective of study is to apply the existentialist theory to analyze the meaning of life in Kung Fu Panda movie based on Existentialist Perspective. In doing so, the writer uses Sartre’s Theory to answer the problem of the study. The study is descriptive qualitative research whose the data are taken from script of Kung Fu Panda Movie by using methodology of literature as the references. The data collecting technique is library research, while the data analyzing technique is descriptive.     This research discussed about illucotionary act which aimed to describe the types of illucotionary acts that performed by characters in Kung Fu Panda 3 movie. The researcher applied descriptive qualitative method in revealing the data. The data included utterances from the characters' conversation that contained illucotionary acts in Kung Fu Panda 3 movie. This research used note taking as instrument to get the valid data. The researcher applied Searle's speech act categories; assertive, directive, commissive, expressive, and declaration. The research revealed that all types of illuctionary acts were found in the Kung Fu Panda 3 movie, they were, Assertive (Informing, Asserting), Directive (Entreating, Inviting, Commanding, Asking), Commissive (Promising), Expressive (Praising, Thanking), and Declaration (Announcing)

Advisor: Kurniawan, S. S., M.Hum Key words: Speech Acts, Directive Speech Acts, Movie This research studies about directive speech acts in Kung Fu Panda 3 movie. The objectives of this research are to know the kinds of directive speech acts and the forms of directive speech acts. The researcher takes the data from the movie entitled Kung Fu Panda 3. This research is a qualitative research by employing descriptive method. The result tends to focus on the deep meaning of the dialogue’s quality rather than the quantity of number. The data of this research are taken from directive uspeech acts in dialogues in the movie. The instrument of this research is the reseacher herself who collects, analyzes, and presents the data findings of the researchthen draw the conclusion. The researcher applied the trustworthiness of the data to obtain the valid data. The result of the analysis shows four kinds of directive speech acts uttered in Kung Fu Panda 3 movie. There are 54 data (65.85%) belong to command, 11 data (13.41%) belong to request, 9 data (10.98%) belong to suggestion, and 8 data (9.75%) belong to warning. Command happen when the conversation between speaker and hearer which the speaker have higher position. Request commonly used by low position to asks hearer from high position to do something. Suggestion occurs showing about caring to the hearer by giving opinion that benefical to the hearer. Warning occurs showing about the safety of the hearer. The form of directive speech acts in Kung Fu Panda 3 movie are imperative, interrogative, and declarative. There are imperative 55 data (67.07%), they are 43 data imperative used in command, 4 in requests, 3 in suggestion, 5 data in warning. Interrogative 5 data (6.10%), they are 4 data used in request and 1 data used in warning. And declarative 22 data (26.82%), they are, 11 data declarative used in command, 3 in request, 5 in suggestion, 3 data in warning. Directive speech act in command was dominant and the characters often used imperative to get the hearer to do something

Tokoh yang terdapat dalam film ini adalah Poo, Tai Lung, Grand Master Oogway, Master Shifu, Tigress, Viper, Monkey, Mantis, Crane, Tuan Ping, Zeng, Komandan Vachir. Latar yang terdapat dalam film ini adalah lembah damai. Sudut pandang yang digunakan didalam film ini adalah orang pertama yaitu Po.
