In this article there are described fundamental ideas in cardinal Joseph Ratzinger’s / pope Benedict XVI’s theology of music. We begin with a description of the context of Ratzinger’s theology of music which is the faith expressed in the liturgy. The biblical and patristic sources of his theological thought will be described subsequently. In the next section the theological-systematic basis (christological, pneumatological and eschatological) of Ratzinger’s musical-theological thought is studied.W artykule opisano podstawowe idee w teologii muzyki kard. In the last part is described his theological aesthetic and its application in the liturgy and sacred music. Finally, spiritual and pastoral suggestions for sacred music and pastoral ministry are also presented

Co i jak należy śpiewać w ramach liturgii?

The state of liturgical music still rises mixed feelings among those who are engaged in the celebration of the holy ceremonies. Half a century has passed since the Second Vatican Council introduced documents concerning the new shape of liturgy, also in the field of music; and a retrospective view of this issue indicates positive phenomena and examples, but at the same time exposes faults, malpractice and negligence. The present teaching of the Church in the field of liturgical music points out three important criteria which decide about the appropriate shaping of songs and chants: (1) melody united to the words, (2) care about the artistic value and (3) appropriate character and style of the work to designed for sacred action. The role of sacredness and the close connection with the liturgical action in church chant has been consistently emphasized. Songs and for liturgy must not be chosen at random; also the way of singing and perfection of performance are important. The appeal, directed to composers of sacred music, for new works pertaining in their texts to a specific topic of the day or a specific liturgical action remains always relevant

The article presents the practice of blessing an organ pipe in the roman rite of thecatholic church. The author enlightens the blessings of the instrument in the liturgical lifeof the church, so that he can move on examine the various forms of blessing the organ,contained in the rituals. The history of the emergence of the ritual in the context of thelatest Vatican Council is also shown. Ending, the author presents a new form of the blessing,which is used in the archdiocese of Kraków in the last few years.Artykuł prezentuje praktykę błogosławieństwa organów w rycie rzymskim Kościoła katolickiego. Autor przybliża początki obecności organów w życiu liturgicznym Kościoła, by przejść następnie do analizy poszczególnych wersji błogosławieństwa organów obecnych w rytuałach. Przedstawiona jest również historia powstania tego obrzędu w kontekście ostatniej reformy soborowej. Na końcu autor prezentuje zupełnie nową formę błogosławienia organów, która od kilku lat jest używana na terenie archidiecezji krakowskiej

Śpiew wiernych w liturgii w świetle watykańskiej instrukcji Musicam sacram

In light of the Vatican’s 1967 instruction, entitled Musicam sacram, not only Gregorian choirs may be performed during liturgy, but also songs. These should be approved by the appropriate ecclesiastical authority. They should have arisen for the glory of God, have no relation to secularity (i.e. be holy) and be perfect in form. It would be good if the songwriters were also inspired by the Gregorian chant in their creation. An important role in the proper liturgical experience is silence. The Church also encourages the faithful to practice singing the Officium as well as become familiar with Gregorian chants. W świetle watykańskiej instrukcji z 1967 roku pt. Musicam sacram podczas liturgii można wykonywać nie tylko śpiew gregoriański, ale także pieśni. Winne one być zatwierdzone przez odpowiednią władzę kościelną. Powinny powstać dla chwały Boga, nie mieć żadnego związku ze świeckością (czyli być święte) oraz posiadać doskonałą formę. Dobrze by było, gdyby twórcy pieśni w ich tworzeniu inspirowali się także śpiewem gregoriańskim. Ważną rolę w odpowiednim przeżywaniu liturgii odgrywa milczenie. Kościół zachęca też wiernych do praktyki śpiewanego Oficjum oraz poznawania śpiewów gregoriańskich

Theology of Marriage in The Church Wedding Songs

In the old church song repertoires in the Upper Silesia one may find a distinct group of songs connected with the celebration of the sacrament of matrimony. There are not many of them and they are usually labelled as songs before vows and after vows. The theological content of these songs generally concentrates on the topic of unity and indissolubility of the marital covenant. They also take the form of singing supplications for God’s help for the newlyweds. As far as the music is concerned, these songs often use melodies borrowed from other popular songs in the form of contrafactum, but there are also some melodies specially composed. Nowadays, the songs performed and instrumental music played at the celebration of the sacrament of matrimony are not always chosen in accordance with the spirit of liturgy; and often lay music permeates church ceremonies. This is why there is a need for new works in this field of church chant; a need for songs closely related to the wedding ceremonies

Diecezjalne Komisje Liturgiczne jako postulat reformy liturgicznej. Perspektywa polska

Pierwszy dokument odnowy soborowej - Konstytucja Sacrosanctum Concilium został uchwalony 4 grudnia 1963 r. W dokumencie tym są zamieszczone wskazania, które stanowią fundament reformy liturgii oraz służą pełnemu, świadomemu i czynnemu udziałowi wiernych w sprawowaniu tajemnic Kościoła. Jednym z postulatów Konstytucji liturgicznej było utworzenie w poszczególnych diecezjach Komisji Liturgicznych, by popierały działalność liturgiczną pod kierunkiem biskupa (por. KL 45). Artykuł stara się odpowiedzieć na pytanie: czy postulat ten został już zrealizowany? Dotychczasową działalność Komisji Liturgicznych w poszczególnych diecezjach i ich skuteczność można różnie oceniać. W większości diecezji Kościoła w Polsce odegrały one bardzo pozytywną rolę w recepcji liturgicznej odnowy soborowej. Wydaje się, że obecnie, wobec różnych przejawów kryzysu Kościoła, Diecezjalna Komisja Liturgiczna podejmować zdecydowane działania w sprawie liturgicznej formacji duchowieństwa i wiernych świeckich, szczególnie w ich przygotowaniu do liturgicznych posług
