Self-pollination by sliding pollen in Caulokaempferia coenobialis (Zingiberaceae)

Caulokaempferia coenobialis (Zingiberaceae) forms dense populations on steep cliffs in shady, humid monsoon forests in south China. It produces few consecutively opening bright yellow flowers that are 3 cm long and oriented parallel to the ground. Upon anther dehiscence at about 0600 hours, each pollen sac releases a drop of pollen onto the horizontally oriented style, and the two drops then merge to form an oily film that slowly flows toward the stigma, carrying out self-pollination between about 1500 and 0730 hours the next day. The distance covered by the pollen film is ca. 3 mm. There is no significant difference in fruit set between experimentally cross- and self-pollinated flowers or between naturally pollinated and bagged flowers. The low pollen/ovule ratio of 664 probably relates to the pollen grains being held together by pollen-connecting threads. The latter ensure that pollen grains always arrive as multiples, and this is the first report of such threads in the Zingiberaceae. During 35 h of observation at several locations and during three flowering periods, only three individual bees, five flies, and two butterflies visited single flowers. It remained unclear whether they affected pollination because no return visits were observed. The automatic selfing by pollen that reaches the stigma ca. 9 h after the onset of anthesis apparently constitutes a case of delayed selfing, providing reproductive reassurance in situations of low pollinator visitation

The paper discusses a concept of general meaning with reference to various relevant semantic and pragmatic theories. It includes references to Slavic axiological semantics (e.g. Krzeszowski (1997); Puzynina (1992)), Wierzbicka’s (e.g. 1980, 1987) atomic expressions and classical pragmatics theories, such as speech acts, Gricean theory of conversational implicature, politeness theory and and relevance theory

Analýza procesu zplyňování alternativního paliva (50% odpad, 50% plasty)

The paper presents analysis of alternative fuel gasification with use of flue gas as a gasifying agent. As a result of a process syngas with combustible components (CO, H2, CH4, CnHm) was obtained. Laboratory tests were carried out to determine usability of selected alternative fuel to low-temperature gasification process. Tests were conducted in a laboratory reactor allowing to gasify a fuel sample of appx. 1 g. The experimental stand enables recording of a sample weight loss and syngas composition. The process takes place for fuel samples of a constant weight and different granulation and with a set composition of flue gas used as a gasifying agent. The aim of the laboratory research was to determine the usability of RDF fuel for indirect co-firing in power boilers and to build a knowledge base for industrial-size process by defining the process parameters: kinetics (time for fuel to remain in the reactor), recommended fuel granulation and process temperature.Článek prezentuje analýzu zplyňování alternativního paliva s využitím spalin jako zplyňovacího prostředku. Jako výsledek zplyńovacího procesu “syngas” byly definovány hořlavé složky (CO, H2, CH4, CnHm). Byly provedeny laboratorní testy pro určení použitelnosti vybraného alternativního paliva pro proces zplyňování při nízkých teplotách. Testy byly prováděny v laboratorním reaktoru, který umožnil zplyňovat vzorek paliva o hmotnosti cca. 1 g. Experimentální zařízení umožňuje zaznamenat úbytek hmotnosti vzorku a jeho složení. Proces probíhá u vzorků paliva s konstantní hmotností a s různou granulometrii a se stanoveným složením spalin použitým jako zplyňovací medium. Cílem laboratorního výzkumu bylo zjistit použitelnost paliva RDF pro nepřímé spolu-spalování v energetických kotlích a vytvořit znalostní základnu pro reálný průmyslový proces definováním parametrů procesu: kinetiky (doby setrvání paliva v reaktoru), doporučená granulometrie paliva a teploty procesu

The reinstatement of local government at the level of the district in Poland in 1990 has resulted in the actual empowerment of local communities, while the local governments have become able to define the goals of local policy that are in line with the expectations of local communities. The local government of Kalisz has taken advantage of the new opportunities to improve the living conditions and standard of living of its citizens since it was instituted. Over the years, due to changes in the political system, related to the establishment of counties, the local government of Kalisz has received new operating opportunities, implementing projects at the level of both districts and counties. The political transformation was complemented by the changes in the election principles of the executive, which has significantly improved the efficiency and effectiveness of the President of Kalisz. The activities of local government have been concentrated on the increasing of social integration by means of taking maximum advantage of local assets and potential. In order to achieve these goals promotional instruments have been employed to encourage foreign investors to investment in Kalisz. A significant part of the local government’s activities concern its longstanding international cooperation with towns in Western, as well as Central and Eastern Europe

Time Dominance in Classification of Dynamic Structure

The idea of time dominance was formulated about twenty years ago and this term means the greater utility value of one „fact" over the other in every moment of strictly defined period of time. The dominance ranking methods are a direct adaptation of the stochastic dominance ranking methods which are used for choice between two statistical distributions. The first application of time dominance was evaluation of investment projects and then - according to the appropriate utility function -selection of one project of the group of others. But there are also other potential fields of application of time dominance methodology - almost all situations where problems of ranking take place. The simplicity and intelligibility of this method is presented through the example of its application to data connected with the sphere of preservation of environment.Koncepcja dominacji czasowej opracowana została w latach osiemdziesiątych jako adaptacja coraz popularniejszej metody dominacji stochastycznych do kontekstu dynamicznego. Pojęcie dominacji czasowej oznacza większą użyteczność jednego zjawiska w porównaniu z innymi w każdym momencie ściśle określonego przedziału czasu. Pierwszym obszarem zastosowania dominacji czasowej była ocena projektów inwestycyjnych wraz ze wskazaniem - w myśl określonego kryterium - projektu najlepszego. Jednakże zastosowanie metodologii dominacji czasowej może mieć miejsce także w wielu innych sytuacjach - praktycznie wszędzie tam, gdzie pojawia się problem wskazania zjawiska rozwijającego się, zgodnie z założoną przez decydenta funkcją użyteczności, "najlepiej" w badanym czasie.
