Real-Time Data Analytics for Monitoring Electricity Consumption Using IoT Technology
Rising electricity bills as a result of climate variability and new home electrical and electronic appliances are becoming a major source of concern for most end users. Consumers are typically unaware of their household electricity consumption patterns and the costs associated with them, making proper planning and budgeting difficult. Monitoring and controlling energy consumption on appliances can reduce energy costs for end-users. The Internet of Things (IoT) has the potential to provide remote monitoring and control of devices via automated monitoring and control. In this study, we propose an IoT-enabled system for monitoring and controlling energy consumption in homes to save money and make electricity more affordable to low-income people. Autonomous sensor nodes attached to power outlets collect and route power consumption data to the GSM-enabled gateway. Data aggregation is performed by the gateway for data received from all end-nodes within its coverage area. The gateway sends the data to the cloud, where real-time data analytics is performed. We also developed an algorithm that enables users to not only understand their usage patterns but also remotely control their appliances at any time. Mobile phones are used to remotely turn on and off household appliances via a machine-to-machine interface, as well as to provide real-time visualization of household energy consumption patterns
Internet of Things (IoT) based Energy Tracking and Bill Estimation System
Electrical energy is an important form of energy in the present times. For better or worse electricity is indispensable to life as we know it. Although we may not yet be able to produce enough clean energy to power the world, we can reduce environmental damage by learning how to save electricity is becoming a priority for more and more people. The purpose of this project is to design a system which can track and estimate the bill using IOT from anywhere in world. The project design comprises of NodeMCU, four channel relay, OLED display and MIT app Inventor 2 as cloud Interface. Here NodeMCU fetches average consumption detail of loads from and logs estimated bill to the cloud-hosted database, monitors the duration for which each relay in a 4-channel relay module was switched-on, performs calculations, and transmits real-time results to an IoT cloud interface. 4-channel relay module executes switching instructions on loads sent over the internet via the control unit. This paper provides highlights on cloud-hosted database details, hardware design, IoT cloud interface application design, and working principle with mathematical modeling of the proposed system and tested results of this system are discussed, with the cloud-hosted database and IoT cloud interface
Design and Implementation of Automated Irrigation Control System using WSN: An overview
Agriculture plays an important role in Indian economy. It is the biggest water user with the irrigation accounting for 70 percent of global water usage. It is assumed that without improved efficiency of water usage, the consumption of agriculture water can increase by 20 percent by 2050 at global level. In our country rainfall controls the agriculture; but the rainfall is non-uniform and irregular. This creates hassle in irrigation which badly affects the agriculture produce. This paper reviews different smart irrigation methods to achieve the efficiency in water use, higher production levels, low cost, decreased manpower requirements, higher reliability in water supply and certainly higher profits to farmers. The smart irrigation system should be cost effective so that the farmers can use it in the farm field
Development of an IoT platform to monitor storage conditions and packaging optimization in industry environment
Food production and storage is of major importance in the modern world. Markets and
industry must guarantee supply to millions of people. Storing these quantities of food require
a lot of management skills and large spaces with good conditions to ensure food quality. One
particular area is the olive oil industry which requires large spaces and large tanks prepared
with dozens of thousands of liters of capacity.
This storage can sometimes create problems in the management caused by misinfor mation provoked by human error in checking storage the status. One such Institution where
this problem has appeared is Cooperativa Agrícola de Beja e Brinches (CABB), Portugal,
which inspired us to study and develop the product of this thesis. In CABB it was verified
that sometimes, due to its storage conditions, the registered quantities of olive oil stored in
the tanks would not correspond to the real state, sometimes varying as much as 20 000 liters.
In this work, to facilitate olive oil management in CABB, we suggest the use of Internet
of Things (IoT) technologies. This can rectify the verification of quantities of olive oil stored
in tanks and indirectly improve the quality of information needed for better management of
olive oil.
Tests revealed that the technology developed during this project might improve the
functioning of CABB, making it better to read values associated to olive oil levels inside tanks.
de Internet of Things (IoT).
Low-cost SCADA platforms for a solar energy system
Conventional energy has been used from ancient times. Coal, natural gas, oil, uranium, and
firewood are example of conventional source. These sources are consider the main source of air
pollution. So, it is desired to use clean energy sources such as solar power, wind turbine, and
hydro-electric power. We need to monitor and control parameters of clean energy sources when
they are working as a power source.
In this research, few low-cost Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems have
been designed for a small photovoltaic system to save data in a text file and show it on monitor
screen as a number or graph. The proposed system is designed using four methods. The first
method, is based on low cost sensors, Arduino Uno, and Raspberry pi. These components are
connected together to send data to web server on the internet (www.ubidots.com). Second
method, is based on three things: low cost sensors, Arduino Uno, and free Reliance SCADA
software. In this method, the data is sent to user interface -which are created by Reliance
Software- from Arduino by using mini USB. Third method, is based on a low-cost ESP32, SD
card reader, Wi-Fi, and sensors. The purpose of SD card is to save data as text file which come
from sensors by ESP32, and it saves on a web page as well. Wi Fi of ESP32 is used to access to
the file of data using a computer, a tablet, or cell phone and it could be download easily. Last
method, is based on low cost sensors and Arduino LoRa. In this method, the data of photovoltaic
system has been sent to a control room which is located 1km from photovoltaic system location.
LoRa is used to send the data instead of mini USB and Wi Fi. This thesis, which describes the
details of all the four SCADA system for a PV system at MUN, presents a comparison among
them

Recent Development of Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems
Abstract: The use of renewable energies continues to increase. However, the energy obtained from renewable resources is variable over time. The amount of energy produced from the renewable energy sources (RES) over time depends on the meteorological conditions of the region chosen, the season, the relief, etc. So, variable power and nonguaranteed energy produced by renewable sources implies intermittence of the grid. The key lies in supply sources integrated to a hybrid system (HS)
