HTML5 support for an accessible user-video-interaction on the Web
Multimedia content covers the Web, and we should provide access to all people. For this reason, it is very important to take into account accessibility requirements in the player to avoid barriers and to ensure access to this multimedia content as well as their resources. One of the most frequent barriers is the technological obstacle: the necessity for the user to install the required plug-ins in to order to access video. The new standard HTML5 provides a solution to this problem. However, it does not fully support accessibility requirements of W3C standards, including WCAG and interaction requirement of UAAG. This paper introduces an overall study of this new standard in relation to accessibility requirements for the players as well as an accessible HTML5 Media Player. This research work is supported by the Research Network MAVIR (S2009/TIC-1542 (www.mavir.net/)), GEMMA (TSI-020302-2010-141) and SAGAS (TSI-020100-2010- 184) research projects
In this degree thesis I study the possibilities of working with audio in modern web development, where the use of external plugins such as Flash to produce audio content is increasingly discouraged. HTML5 has brought us a few good tools for this, and the standard is already well-implemented in most web browsers. I examine the audio element in HTML5, which makes it easy to set up audio files for playback on a webpage. The audio element, however, has certain limitations making it unsuitable for more advanced audio applications, such as games and interactive web applications, thus the basics of Web Audio API are also covered in this study. WAAPI is a flexible platform that allows development of custom audio applications with the use of JavaScript. The thesis is a literature study complemented by some testing of my own. I covered the basic features and usage of both the audio element and the WAAPI using practical code examples and explanations
Median suoratoisto
Median suoratoisto vuonna 2013 on kasvanut vuoteen 2012 verrattuna.
The use of streaming media has increased between 2012 and 2013. Streaming videos and music to devices like computers, smartphones, tablets and smart TV is a constantly changing industry. This brings a lot of challenges to the hosts of streaming services.
The meaning of this thesis was to study what is streaming and its challenges and possibilities in the year 2013. I introduced few different streaming programs and their features, and studied streaming protocols and the important codecs these streaming servers used. I also explored players for browsers that made watching streams possible.
In the practical part of the study I chose two streaming programs that I wanted to learn. I studied how to install them to a PC and how to stream livestream video and sounds to the Internet
The patriot band : the school cadets from their evolution to the Great War : thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts in History at Massey University
The writing of history consists in the complementary activities of analysis and reflection. A study of the school cadets in New Zealand from their evolution in the old established colleges till 1914, provides an opportunity for both these activities to be attempted through the medium of a relatively small but highly defined topic. As an institution, the cadets provide an interesting study in themselves, for by minutely observing the specialised activities of a large section of New Zealand society, namely its children together with those especially concerned with the cadets through education or defence, it is possible to gain a detailed understanding and insight into their beliefs and assumptions. The activities and attitudes of teachers, concerned military men, articulate members of the general public and where possible pupils, will each provide a slightly different vantage point from which to reconstruct this picture. Webs of Type P
This paper introduces type P web supercategories. They are defined as
diagrammatic monoidal -linear supercategories via generators and relations.
We study the structure of these categories and provide diagrammatic bases for
their morphism spaces. We also prove these supercategories provide
combinatorial models for the monoidal supercategory generated by the symmetric
powers of the natural module and their duals for the Lie superalgebra of type

Web application for subjective evaluation of streamed video
This work deals with creating web application for subjective evaluation of streamed video and parts which are necessary. Streaming techniques are described from simple classical technique to adaptive bitrate streaming techniques. This work focus on adaptive bitrate streaming technology using MPEG - DASH and editing video source with tool FFmpeg. With using JavaScript is create a player who´s able to simulate changes in the network as a change in available bandwidth. It´s possible to create scenarios under which the player selects the video playback quality. The player is placed into a complex tool for evaluation of quality of experience.
Finding the Right Platform: A Crosswalk of Academy-Owned and Open-Source Digital Publishing Platforms
A key responsibility for many library publishers is to collaborate with authors to determine the best mechanisms for sharing and publishing research. Librarians are often asked to assist with a wide range of research outputs and publication types, including eBooks, digital humanities (DH) projects, scholarly journals, archival and thematic collections, and community projects. These projects can exist on a variety of platforms both for profit and academy owned. Additionally, over the past decade, more and more academy owned platforms have been created to support both library publishing programs. Library publishers who wish to emphasize open access and open-source publishing can feel overwhelmed by the proliferation of available academy-owned or -affiliated publishing platforms.
For many of these platforms, documentation exists but can be difficult to locate and interpret. While experienced users can usually find and evaluate the available resources for a particular platform, this kind of documentation is often less useful to authors and librarians who are just starting a new publishing project and want to determine if a given platform will work for them.
Because of the challenges involved in identifying and evaluating the various platforms, we created this comparative crosswalk to help library publishers (and potentially authors) determine which platforms are right for their services and authors’ needs
Flexi-WVSNP-DASH: A Wireless Video Sensor Network Platform for the Internet of Things
abstract: Video capture, storage, and distribution in wireless video sensor networks
(WVSNs) critically depends on the resources of the nodes forming the sensor
networks. In the era of big data, Internet of Things (IoT), and distributed
demand and solutions, there is a need for multi-dimensional data to be part of
the Sensor Network data that is easily accessible and consumable by humanity as
well as machinery. Images and video are expected to become as ubiquitous as is
the scalar data in traditional sensor networks. The inception of video-streaming
over the Internet, heralded a relentless research for effective ways of
distributing video in a scalable and cost effective way. There has been novel
implementation attempts across several network layers. Due to the inherent
complications of backward compatibility and need for standardization across
network layers, there has been a refocused attention to address most of the
video distribution over the application layer. As a result, a few video
streaming solutions over the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) have been
proposed. Most notable are Apple’s HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) and the Motion
Picture Experts Groups Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (MPEG-DASH). These
frameworks, do not address the typical and future WVSN use cases. A highly
flexible Wireless Video Sensor Network Platform and compatible DASH (WVSNP-DASH)
are introduced. The platform's goal is to usher video as a data element that
can be integrated into traditional and non-Internet networks. A low cost,
scalable node is built from the ground up to be fully compatible with the
Internet of Things Machine to Machine (M2M) concept, as well as the ability to
be easily re-targeted to new applications in a short time. Flexi-WVSNP design
includes a multi-radio node, a middle-ware for sensor operation and
communication, a cross platform client facing data retriever/player framework,
scalable security as well as a cohesive but decoupled hardware and software
design.Dissertation/ThesisDoctoral Dissertation Electrical Engineering 201
