    Design Of A Web Based Bookstore Model : "One Stop Malaysian BookMall"

    This project is developed to present design considerations of an online Internet had bookstore model. This virtual bookstore will cater for Malaysian book and magazine publishers to venture into e-commerce. The development of electronic commerce applications today is considered expensive and risky because of many technological limitations, such as the absence of application-level interoperability, industrial standards for electronic trading and large-scale reusability of electronic commerce applications. Within the past few years, online bookstores have been set up to promote and sell books over the Internet. representing a fledgling new generation of book distributors and shops in Malaysia. A large proportion of today‘s electronic commerce applications are custom developed. One of the most obvious problems of Web-based electronic commerce systems is the lack of high-level inter-operability. This project is initiated to developed a framework of standard modeling concept for the Online based bookstore mode. The model will adopt a Clearinghouse or broker concept as its business model. Finally. the project's view on future directions in web-based development in the contest of electronic commerce will be discussed

    Inherently, public administration is a paper-based information business that handles sensitive data and includes citizens, enterprises and various authorities. It is embedded in a legal framework of defined administrative processes based on the principle of the division of labour. Recently, the demand for a close contact to citizens and restricted financial resources show the need for a change in public administrations in order to become fast and efficient organisations. Present reform approaches in public administration are driven by information technology. Within distinct authorities and administrations isolated IT-applications were replaced by partially integrated information systems. Meanwhile first network- and Internet-technologies are successfully implemented and support the E-Government-approach of an interconnection between public administrations, citizens and enterprises within the public-private-partnership. Concerning the organisation of administrations, first steps into a new public management were taken with controlling approaches and decentralised organisational units. At the beginning of the 21st century, the growing „House of Europe“ generates new requirements for its public administrations. New dimensions of trade, environment, infrastructure and migration will cause a paneuropean communication and co-ordination challenge for the public sector, its organisation and information technology. Are public administrations able to work with paperlessprocesses and what kinds of administrative processes are suitable for an electronic treatment? How can public administrations interconnect their inter-organisational processes on a national or international (European) base? How can the concerned legislation or administration behaviours be aligned? Which technical means are necessary to integrate citizens and enterprises into electronic administration processes? Innovative information systems for integrated electronic and inter-organisational administration processes embedded in a common legal framework may be a powerful instrument for public administrations to become more effective and customer-oriented organisations. To continue this process of reorganisation and modernisation the ECIS 2000 track „Public-Administration“ focuses evolutions that challenge public administrations as well as IC/IT research and development in the 21st century. The contributions to the track focus on • Organisational concepts, information systems and system architectures for a new public management, based on new information or Internet technologies. • Reflections concerning electronic business between citizens, enterprises and administrations (E-government). • Requirements for electronic intra- and inter-organisational administration processes, e.g. aspects of legal regulations, data security, virtual products and services, procedural models for implementation. • Knowledge Management and informatization in the public sector: developing the learning administration. • Reference models and scalable solutions for similar administration procedures. • Concepts and case studies about successful change programs in public organizations. • Standards (technical/content) for interadministrative business processes and communication. The different sessions and the panel discussion handle these questions from a wide range of perspectives but with the common goal of making the theory and practice of EGovernment and the evolution of information systems in public administrations work

    Building a truster environment for e-business : a Malaysian perspective

    Internet identify ‘security’ as a major concern for businesses. In general, the level of security in any network environment is closely linked to the level of trust assigned to a particular individual or organization within that environment. It is the trust element that is crucial in ensuring a secure environment. Besides physical security, security technology needs to be utilised to provide a trusted environment for e-business. Network security components for perimeter defense, i.e., Virtual Private Networks, firewalls and Intrusion Detection Systems, need to be complemented by security components at the applications and user level, e.g., authentication of user. ID or password security solution may be an option but now with the availability of legally binding digital certificates, security in e-business transactions can be further improved. Time and date stamping of e-business transactions are also of concern to prove at a later date that the transactions took place at the stipulated date and time. Digital certificates are part of a Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) scheme, which is an enabling technology for building a trusted epvironment. PIU comprise policies and procedures for establishing a secure method for exchanging information over a network environment. The Digital Signature Act 1997 (DSA 1997) facilitates the PKI implementation in Malaysia. Following the DSA 1997, Certification Authorities (CAs) were set up in Malaysia.     An open standard for the exchange of information in the Australian timber sector

    The purpose of this paper is to describe business-to-business (B2B) communication and the characteristics of an open standard for electronic communication within the Australian timber and wood products industry. Current issues, future goals and strategies for using business-to-business communication will be considered. From the perspective of the Timber industry sector, this study is important because supply chain efficiency is a key component in an organisation's strategy to gain a competitive advantage in the marketplace. Strong improvement in supply chain performance is possible with improved business-to-business communication which is used both for building trust and providing real time marketing data. Traditional methods such as electronic data interchange (EDI) used to facilitate B2B communication have a number of disadvantages, such as high implementation and running costs and a rigid and inflexible messaging standard. Information and communications technologies (ICT) have supported the emergence of web-based EDI which maintains the advantages of the traditional paradigm while negating the disadvantages. This has been further extended by the advent of the Semantic web which rests on the fundamental idea that web resources should be annotated with semantic markup that captures information about their meaning and facilitates meaningful machine-to-machine communication. This paper provides an ontology using OWL (Web Ontology Language) for the Australian Timber sector that can be used in conjunction with semantic web services to provide effective and cheap B2B communications

    Component Based System Framework for Dynamic B2B Interaction

    Business-to-business (B2B) collaboration is becoming a pivotal way to bring today's enterprises to success in the dynamically changing, e-business environment. Though many business-to-business protocols are developed to support B2B interaction, none are generally accepted. A B2B system should support different B2B protocols dynamically to enable interaction between diverse enterprises. This paper proposes a framework for dynamic B2B interaction. A B2B transaction is divided into the interaction part and business implementation part to support flexible interaction. A component based system framework is proposed,to support the B2B transaction execution. To support. dynamic B2B services, dynamic component composition is required. Service and component notions are combined into a composable service component. The composition architecture is also presented
