Role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) art in care of ageing society: focus on dementia
open access articleBackground: Art enhances both physical and mental health wellbeing. The health
benefits include reduction in blood pressure, heart rate, pain perception and briefer
inpatient stays, as well as improvement of communication skills and self-esteem. In
addition to these, people living with dementia benefit from reduction of their noncognitive,
behavioural changes, enhancement of their cognitive capacities and being
socially active.
Methods: The current study represents a narrative general literature review on
available studies and knowledge about contribution of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in
creative arts.
Results: We review AI visual arts technologies, and their potential for use among
people with dementia and care, drawing on similar experiences to date from
traditional art in dementia care.
Conclusion: The virtual reality, installations and the psychedelic properties of the AI
created art provide a new venue for more detailed research about its therapeutic use in
dementia
Telehealth Wound Applications: Barriers, Solutions, and Future Use by Nurse Practitioners
Telehealth applications are an emerging technology in a new era of health care system technologies. Although telehealth technologies, including a number of different applications, are used by various members of the health care team, nurse practitioners (NPs) utilize them for a variety of patient issues across healthcare settings. The Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne Computer Science Department has recently developed a wound scanning application, WoundView for nurse practitioners to utilize in different healthcare settings. Such telehealth mobile applications are used in clinics, home health, rural, and remote settings where a physician may not be readily available. However, there are obstacles with the current practice of using telehealth technologies such as a dire need for evidence-based research that supports attainable solutions for these barriers. Extensive, ongoing research will allow NPs to anticipate an immense mainstream implementation of telehealth applications in the very near future

Technology and Caregiving: Emerging Interventions and Directions for Research.
An array of technology-based interventions has increasingly become available to support family caregivers, primarily focusing on health and well-being, social isolation, financial, and psychological support. More recently the emergence of new technologies such as mobile and cloud, robotics, connected sensors, virtual/augmented/mixed reality, voice, and the evermore ubiquitous tools supported by advanced data analytics, coupled with the integration of multiple technologies through platform solutions, have opened a new era of technology-enabled interventions that can empower and support family caregivers. This paper proposes a conceptual framework for identifying and addressing the challenges that may need to be overcome to effectively apply technology-enabled solutions for family caregivers. The paper identifies a number of challenges that either moderate or mediate the full use of technologies for the benefit of caregivers. The challenges include issues related to equity, inclusion, and access; ethical concerns related to privacy and security; political and regulatory factors affecting interoperability and lack of standards; inclusive/human-centric design and issues; and inherent economic and distribution channel difficulties. The paper concludes with a summary of research questions and issues that form a framework for global research priorities

A gamified mobile health intervention for children in day surgery care : Protocol for a randomized controlled trial

Nursing Open published by John Wiley & Sons Ltd.Aims: To describe a study protocol for a randomized controlled trial which will evaluate the effectiveness of a gamified mobile health intervention for children in whole day surgery care. Design: A study protocol for a two-arm randomized controlled trial. Methods: Participants will be randomly assigned to the intervention group (N = 62), in which patients receive routine care and play a mobile game designed for children or the control group (N = 62), in which patients receive routine care, including a mobile phone application that supports parents during the care path. The primary outcome is children's pre-operative anxiety, while the secondary outcome measures included fear and postoperative pain, along with parental satisfaction and anxiety. Data collection started in August 2020. Results: The results of the ongoing randomized controlled trial will determine whether the developed gamified mobile health intervention can be recommended for hospital use, and whether it could be used to educate children about their surgical treatment to decrease anxiety.Peer reviewe
MyStay – Development of nurse-facilitated condition-specific multimedia resources to facilitate patient participation in postoperative care
Improved postoperative outcomes and the global drive toward the provision of patient-centred care underpins efforts to enhance the nature and capacity of patient participation in acute postoperative hospital care. In this paper, we describe the design, framework and processes used to develop a modular, procedure-specific, digital health intervention platform aimed at improving the patient experience and patient participation in care following surgery. The intervention, a multimedia application MyStay, uses bedside delivery of audio-visual and text-based information to engage postoperative patients to better participate in their care. MyStay modules are developed using an iterative, multi-method approach intended to balance procedure-specific best evidence, current clinical practice, and patient preferences. Development involves six key elements: (1) Empathise with target users, (2) Ground in evidence and behavioural theory, (3) Specify target behaviours, (4) Integration of health service standards and clinical care pathways/guidelines, (5) Build and refine the multimedia product and, (6) Pilot implementation to assess potential effectiveness and usability. To-date, we have developed four procedure-specific MyStay modules and an additional three are under development. Initial patient usage data for the Total Knee Replacement (TKR) and cardiac surgery applications indicated that users accessed a wide range of text-based and audio-visual information, most frequently recovery goals and exercises following TKR, and postoperative recovery information for the intensive care unit following cardiac surgery. As previous research that tested MyStay indicated its efficacy in optimising clinical postoperative outcomes, this framework may be useful in the development of other digital health innovations. Further research is required to assess patient and clinician engagement and determine whether MyStay is associated with improved patient outcomes across varied clinical contexts.

Simulation Genres and Student Uptake: The Patient Health Record in Clinical Nursing Simulations
Drawing on fieldwork, this article examines nursing students’ design and use of a patient health record during clinical simulations, where small teams of students provide nursing care for a robotic patient. The student-designed patient health record provides a compelling example of how simulation genres can both authentically coordinate action within a classroom simulation and support professional genre uptake. First, the range of rhetorical choices available to students in designing their simulation health records are discussed. Then, the article draws on an extended example of how student uptake of the patient health record within a clinical simulation emphasized its intertextual relationship to other genres, its role mediating social interactions with the patient and other providers, and its coordination of embodied actions. Connections to students’ experiences with professional genres are addressed throughout. The article concludes by considering initial implications of this research for disciplinary and professional writing courses
Increasing the Capacity of Primary Care Through Enabling Technology.
Primary care is the foundation of effective and high-quality health care. The role of primary care clinicians has expanded to encompass coordination of care across multiple providers and management of more patients with complex conditions. Enabling technology has the potential to expand the capacity for primary care clinicians to provide integrated, accessible care that channels expertise to the patient and brings specialty consultations into the primary care clinic. Furthermore, technology offers opportunities to engage patients in advancing their health through improved communication and enhanced self-management of chronic conditions. This paper describes enabling technologies in four domains (the body, the home, the community, and the primary care clinic) that can support the critical role primary care clinicians play in the health care system.
