Using System Dynamics Approach to Construct a Performance Measurement Model for Pharmacy Supply Chain Management
A credible performance measurement system is imperative to evaluate SCM systems effectiveness. However, commonly accepted measurements for evaluating pharmacy supply chain management (SCM) are yet to be developed. This study models the dynamic behavior of pharmacy supply chains to include managerial policies and performance measuring systems based on a well-established theoretical framework. The system dynamics methodology is adopted to simulate three scenarios: (1) demand forecasting policy, (2) market need, and (3) manufacturing errors. Simulation results lead to important policy implications of pharmacy SCM
Industry 4.0 and world class manufacturing integration: 100 technologies for a WCM-I4.0 matrix
In the last decade, technological progress has profoundly influenced the industrial world and all industrial sectors have been confronted with a change in technological paradigms. In such a context, this study aims to analyze the synergies between the technological world of Industry 4.0 and the purely organizational and managerial domain ofWorld Class Manufacturing, a model of Operational Excellence. The objective is relating the driving dimensions of the World Class Manufacturing (WCM) system to the technological macrocategories of Industry 4.0: this would allow the identification of which technological solution to leverage on, aiming at optimization in a given World Class Manufacturing pillar. The result is a "WCM-I4.0 matrix": a proposal to reconcile, exploit and trace the relations between the two complex concepts. The WCM-I4.0 matrix includes, by now, 100 Industry 4.0 technologies that best suits with the World Class Manufacturing pillars
Status and Future of Manufacturing Execution Systems
This paper proposes a taxonomy for characterizing manufacturing execution systems and discusses how they can benefit from the recent Developments of Industry 4.0. The study is based on a literature review. The taxonomy contributes to theory and practice by providing a framework for benchmarking of manufacturing execution systems. The taxonomy can be utilized in the selection or design process of the manufacturing execution systems. Outlining the further opportunities provided by Industry 4.0 technologies, the paper also provides directions for future improvements of manufacturing execution systems.acceptedVersio

CHORUS Deliverable 2.2: Second report - identification of multi-disciplinary key issues for gap analysis toward EU multimedia search engines roadmap
After addressing the state-of-the-art during the first year of Chorus and establishing the existing landscape in
multimedia search engines, we have identified and analyzed gaps within European research effort during our second year.
In this period we focused on three directions, notably technological issues, user-centred issues and use-cases and socio-
economic and legal aspects. These were assessed by two central studies: firstly, a concerted vision of functional breakdown
of generic multimedia search engine, and secondly, a representative use-cases descriptions with the related discussion on
requirement for technological challenges. Both studies have been carried out in cooperation and consultation with the
community at large through EC concertation meetings (multimedia search engines cluster), several meetings with our
Think-Tank, presentations in international conferences, and surveys addressed to EU projects coordinators as well as
National initiatives coordinators. Based on the obtained feedback we identified two types of gaps, namely core
technological gaps that involve research challenges, and “enablers”, which are not necessarily technical research
challenges, but have impact on innovation progress. New socio-economic trends are presented as well as emerging legal
challenges
Integration of building information modelling (BIM) and sensor technology: A review of current developments and future outlooks
© 2018 Association for Computing Machinery. ACM. Building Information Modelling1 (BIM) is revolutionising the practicalities of current construction field, sensor technology is essential for enabling BIM to extend beyond the domain of software into the physical domain of building construction and operation; however, no prior in-depth review has focused on the integration of BIM and sensor technology. This paper provides a brief review to evaluate and clarify the state-of-art for the integration of BIM and sensor technology. A systematic review approach was adopted. The result reveals that although much research has conducted, there are gaps and scope for further work, namely: (a) More consideration of the cost of sensors needs to be taken; (b) More commercial applications should be developed; (c) Higher accuracy of positioning and tracing is needed; (d) More applications in structural design could be expanded
Smart Fire Trucks
Fire engines in China are facing challenges and limitations when driving to and while attempting to extinguish fires. These challenges and limitations are a direct result of the progressive urban development of cities and the outdated technology and framework of the fire engines currently in use. With guidance from the Tsinghua-WPI Center for Global Public Safety, this research project analyses current fire engines technology and explores smart technology options that can benefit fire engines in China by making them more adaptable to the changing urban landscape
