Intelligent Tutoring Systems for Generation Z's Addiction

As generation Z's big data is flooding the Internet through social nets, neural network based data processing is turning an important cornerstone, showing significant potential for fast extraction of data patterns. Online course delivery and associated tutoring are transforming into customizable, on-demand services driven by the learner. Besides automated grading, strong potential exists for the development and deployment of next generation intelligent tutoring software agents. Self-adaptive, online tutoring agents exhibiting "intelligent-like" behavior, being capable "to learn" from the learner, will become the next educational superstars. Over the past decade, computer-based tutoring agents were deployed in a variety of extended reality environments, from patient rehabilitation to psychological trauma healing. Most of these agents are driven by a set of conditional control statements and a large answers/questions pairs dataset. This article provides a brief introduction on Generation Z's addiction to digital information, highlights important efforts for the development of intelligent dialogue systems, and explains the main components and important design decisions for Intelligent Tutoring System.Comment: 4 page

The need analysis for developing peer mentors as peer counseling program among Gen Z

This study aims to describe a picture of the perception of positive communication from Gen Z and lecturers, as well as to describe a picture of program needs, potentials in developing peer mentor programs. The type of research is descriptive quantitative and research data is collected using research instruments intended for lecturers and students in measuring the needs of peer mentor programs, this instrument uses a modified Likert scale model. The sampling technique used is simple random sampling with a total sample of 1050 students and 121 lecturers consisting of 3 provinces in South Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, and Central Sulawesi. Then analyzed using descriptive analysis techniques using the JASP application which describes items in 5 categories, namely very low, low, medium, high, and very high. From the data analysis carried out, the results obtained are: 1) Generation Z's perception of communication patterns is in the very high category and classified as polite, 2) Lecturers' perceptions tend to view generation Z's communication patterns as lacking in terms of 3 aspects, namely understanding of politeness in communicating, behavior polite in communication and awareness of the importance of polite behavior, 3) Development of peer mentor models as an effort to develop positive communication and polite behavior in the language of generation z is included in the very high category

16 - JUSTICE, EDUCATION, AND THE CATHOLIC IMAGINATION By Keith Warner, O.F.M. A religious vision of a sustainable future is less about politics than ethics. It means drawing on deep spiritual currents in the Catholic tradition-and environmental concern as if people mattered. 22 - WRITING THE ISLAND An essay in the words and images by John Seibert Farnsworth and Charles Barry. A journey to the Sea of Cortez-to paddle and dive, to hear the island speak, to look carefully, to write, to come home sunburned and transformed. 30 - INTERNET, WE HAVE A PROBLEM. By Sam Scott ➖. One fine winter day, Dan Kaminsky ✂ stumbled upon a hole in the Web that could make for a hacker\u27s field day. It wasn\u27t a flaw with a browser or a piece of hardware. It lay in the foundation of the Internet itself. 48 - IN MEMORIAM: CHANCELLOR PAUL LOCATELLI, S.J. ❠ By Gerald McKevitt, S.J. Understanding personality through preferences in popular mass media: An archetypal approach

Get PDF
In the Digital Age, it may be possible to assess personality in ways beyond those traditionally employed by psychologists. This work examines individual preferences in popular or mass culture media and what they say about people\u27s psychological processes. For example, knowing that someone likes romantic comedy movies and jazz music arguably paints a more useful picture of personality than saying that one is high in both extraversion and openness. In such cases, a media-based self-description provides a clear and tangible metric of individual interests. Here, we hypothesize that one reason such preferences may reflect personality is because media and the arts make frequent use of prototypical or archetypal themes and characters in the stories they relate to their audiences, and that people resonate---i.e., respond affectively---to these thematic elements in specific ways that reflect their personalities. Two studies were performed to test the general hypothesis that people\u27s tastes in popular and mass culture media largely inform their overall personalities and behaviors. In Study 1, two similar scales measuring resonance to archetypal media were compared and a five-factor model of archetypes in mass media was validated. In Study, 2, resonant media preferences were evaluated and compared with participants\u27 self-reported current concerns (including hobbies, group memberships, personal strivings, and possible selves) in order to identify possible archetypal life themes. Results supported the idea of archetypal life themes---that people\u27s mass media preferences are related to their everyday behaviors, goals, social interests, and self-concept. In the future, pop culture-based indicators of personality such as media preferences may be used more often as assessment tools; more pragmatically, they may serve to guide individuals\u27 overall personal development
