Architecture-based integrated management of diverse cloud resources

    Get PDF
Cloud management faces with great challenges, due to the diversity of Cloud resources and ever-changing management requirements. For constructing a management system to satisfy a specific management requirement, a redevelopment solution based on existing management systems is usually more practicable than developing the system from scratch. However, the difficulty and workload of redevelopment are also very high. As the architecture-based runtime model is causally connected with the corresponding running system automatically, constructing an integrated Cloud management system based on the architecture-based runtime models of Cloud resources can benefit from the model-specific natures, and thus reduce the development workload. In this paper, we present an architecture-based approach to managing diverse Cloud resources. First, manageability of Cloud resources is abstracted as runtime models, which could automatically and immediately propagate any observable runtime changes of target resources to corresponding architecture models, and vice versa. Second, a customized model is constructed according to the personalized management requirement and the synchronization between the customized model and Cloud resource runtime models is ensured through model transformation. Thus, all the management tasks could be carried out through executing programs on the customized model. The experiment on a real-world cloud demonstrates the feasibility, effectiveness and benefits of the new approach to integrated management of Cloud resources ? 2014, Chen et al.; licensee Springer.EI11-15

    Get PDF
It is significant for businesses, especially in the digital economy, the solution of theoretical and methodological justifications and the development of practical recommendations for building an organization\u27s information architecture as a holistic description of its key strategies, related to business, information, application systems and technologies, and also their impact on the functions and business processes of an organization. The article discusses issues, related to methodological approaches to modeling an organization\u27s information architectureб using information management tools to help manage innovation in information systems (IS) and information technologies (IT). The relevance of organizational provisions to determine the way, in which a business entity\u27s business model is functionally integrated with the IS architecture is substantiated. The consideration and analysis of the use of industrial standards for describing the architecture of an organization, adopted by such institutions as the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), The Open Group, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), etc. reveal that none of these standards is dominant and does not provide teams, responsible for the architecture development with all the tools, necessary from the methodological point of view and from the point of view of the templates, used to describe the architecture. Recommendations are given on the theoretical and methodological substantiation and construction of the information architecture of an organization as a complete description of its key strategies related to business, information, application systems and technologies, as well as their impact on the functions and business processes of an organization

A novel architecture and system for the provision of Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) for offshore wind power generation is presented. The architecture was developed by conducting a bottom-up analysis of the data required to support RCM within this specific industry, combined with a top-down analysis of the required maintenance functionality. The architecture and system consists of three integrated modules for Intelligent Condition Monitoring, Reliability and Maintenance Modelling, and Maintenance Scheduling that provide a scalable solution for performing dynamic, efficient and cost effective preventative maintenance management within this extremely demanding renewable energy generation sector. The system demonstrates for the first time, the integration of state-of-the-art advanced mathematical techniques: Random Forests, Dynamic Bayesian Networks, and Memetic Algorithms in the development of an intelligent autonomous solution. The results from the application of the intelligent integrated system illustrated the automated detection of faults within a wind farm consisting of over 100 turbines, the modelling and updating of the turbines’ survivability and creation of a hierarchy of maintenance actions, and the optimising of the maintenance schedule with a view to maximising the availability and revenue generation of the turbines

    Get PDF
Abstract: Zigbee is one of the most exciting wireless sensor network (WSN) technologies for monitoring and control. In our previous research, an integrated Zigbee RFID sensor network was designed as an ‘all-in-one’ system solution for Humanitarian Logistics Center (HLC) resource management. Various field trials, which have justified the feasibility and features of such a system structure, have also revealed the requirement for simple yet reliable mobile tracking architecture for Zigbee network. In this paper a connectionless tracking architecture based on Zigbee RFID sensor network is proposed for inventory management applications. Such architecture features a consistent network structure, low hardware energy consumption and no accumulated error for localization algorithms with the least additional cost and hardware required on top of the existing Zigbee RFID sensor network systems. A simple demo system is also developed to demonstrate the feasibility of our design

Mestrado IPB-ESTGBIOma - Integrated solutions in BIOeconomy for the Mobilization of the Agrifood chain project is structured in 6 PPS (Products, Processes, and Services) out of which, a part of PPS2 is covered in this work. This work resulted in the second deliverable of PPS2 which is defined as PPS2.A1.E2 - IT infrastructure design and graphical interface conceptual design. BIOma project is in the early stage and this deliverable is a design task of the project. For defining the system architecture, requirements, UML diagrams, physical architecture, and logical architecture have been proposed. The system architecture is based on microservices due to its advantages like scalability and maintainability for bigger projects like BIOma where several sensors are used for big data analysis. Special attention has been devoted to the research and study for the authentication and authorization of users and devices in a microservices architecture. The proposed authentication solution is a result of research made for microservices authentication where it was concluded that using a separate microservice for user authentication is the best solution. FIWARE is an open-source initiative defining a universal set of standards for context data management that facilitates the development of Smart solutions for different domains like Smart Cities, Smart Industry, Smart Agrifood, and Smart Energy. FIWARE’s PEP (Policy Enforcement Point) proxy solution has been proposed in this work for the better management of user’s identities, and client-side certificates have been proposed for authentication of IoT (Internet of Things) devices. The communication between microservices is done through AMQP (Advanced Message Queuing Protocol), and between IoT devices and microservices is done through MQTT (Message Queuing Telemetry Transport) protocol

In the Knowledge Society the worker should benefit from learning experiences which intersect formal learning moments with both individual and collaborative informal learning, according to a vision of authentic lifelong edu-cation” The paper suggests an innovative answer to the “lifelong competence” management approach. In this context a Lifelong Learning Model (LLM) finds its realization through an integrated solution among the personal, social and formal learning. The vision is sustained by a conceptual architecture, which represents a distinctive and enabling factor for the management of competence allowing to customize training paths on the worker profile. The idea is related to the integration between a Personal Learning Environment (PLE), a learning community and the solution of the Polo di Eccellenza L&K, the learning plat-form IWT (Intelligent Web Teacher)

Traffic Management Algorithms in Differentiated Services Networks

    Get PDF
The Differentiated Services (DiffServ) Architecture, a Quality of Service (QoS) solution being worked on by an IETF work group, is aimed to solve the increasing problems with no service guarantees in the current Internet. New services such as video-on-demand and IP-telephony will be unusable without some sort of service guarantees on which to build applications on. A replacement architecture for the Integrated Services (IntServ) Architecture is needed because of its problems with overhead and scalability. This master thesis studies and evaluates traffic algorithms, specifically scheduling and active queue management algorithms, within the Differentiated Services area using the Network Simulator. The studies investigate Differentiated Services network stability and performance through noise influenced simulations. Results show that against unresponsive users network stability and performance mainly depends on the used scheduling algorithm
