Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to discuss the role of eco innovation in order to achieve sustainable development in manufacturing industries. The outcomes of this paper attempts to describe the main drivers of eco innovation among companies, core categories of eco innovation practices in manufacturing industry and framework of radical and incremental eco product innovation. The last part of the paper provides the insight of the new paradigm for eco innovation research in new millennium particularly in developing countries. Design/methodology/Approach: The selected papers that have been reviewed were retrieved from Google scholar database with high citation index. Findings: Manufacturing acknowledges eco innovation as a pivotal role to attain sustainability development in ecology, economy and society. There are three main drivers that able to boost the manufacturing sustainability namely regulation, responsibility and competition. Four types of eco innovation practices are product, process, marketing and organizations. However, among of them, eco product innovation is highly discussed among scholars in new millennium. Most of high cited literature describes the dimension of radical and incremental literature in four dimensions: modes of changes, economy values, design changes and eco innovation practices. The new research paradigm should discuss on eco innovation management in manufacturing industry. Originality/value: Most of scholars are confused with the correct concept of eco innovation and its relationship towards sustainability development. Therefore, this paper attempts to provide a clear direction on difference between the incremental and radical eco product innovation implementation in manufacturing industry en route for building the sustainable development echoes to economy, ecology and society

This study examines the green supply chain management (GSCM) practices found in a manufacturing firm operating in Malaysia. The findings indicate that by integrating ISO 14001 modules as the framework, the case firm has initiated several environmental management practices within the supply chain phases. The findings also indicate that the case firm’s inbound logistics, internal supply chain/production and outbound logistics processes conform to green management practices. However, reverse logistics practice, a key phase in GSCM is not practiced by the case firm. The present study besides adding knowledge to current literature, will also contribute in promoting environmental practice among companies operating in Malaysia, particularly on the effects that these practices have on the environmental, operational & financial performance. This work provides a starting-point for further research in GSCM in Malaysia

Green Supply Chain Management Practice and Performance of Manufacturing Companies in Batu Pahat, Johor

    Get PDF
Environmental issues such as air and water pollutions are increasing because of the speedy growth of industrial modernization especially in the manufacturing industry. The industry is considered as one of the main sources of environmental problems. Green supply chain management (GSCM) practices can help companies in the industry improve firm sustainability performance through reduction of environmental risk, at the same time, provide economic and environmental benefit. In Malaysia, researchers were more focused on internal environmental management practices such as the implementation ISO 14001 and the number of research on GSCM practices is still low. This research aims to explore GSCM practices and sustainability performance through a survey among manufacturing companies in Batu Pahat, Johor. It also compares the practices and performance of two case companies using data gathered from interviews. The findings reveal that the manufacturing companies in Batu Pahat had a moderate level of GSCM implementation and sustainability performance. The GSCM practices that companies should focus more are internal environmental management and reverse logistics

The purpose of the study is to determine the green practices that integrate environmental concerns into supply chain management among the industries in Malaysia. The review is focused on practices of green supply chain management (GSCM) implemented in Malaysian industries. Secondary data was used in this study, where a detailed review of previous researches in sorting out the literature and develop the research direction of the study.By comparing studies from past researches, it results that eco-design, green purchasing and reverse logistics are the most adopted green supply chain practices in Malaysia industries. These green practices may help in lowering the environmental impacts

This study focuses on the determinants of hybrid car purchase intention in the Malaysian automotive industry. This study conceptualizes consumption values as a multi-dimensional construct which consists of five dimensions of values, i.e. functional value, symbolic value, emotional value, novelty value, and conditional value. This study examines the relationships between consumption values, consumers’ attitudes toward the hybrid car, brand preference, and intention to purchase the hybrid car. This study also examines the role of attitudes toward the hybrid car as a mediator and brand preference as a moderator of intention to purchase the hybrid car. Including both the mediating and the moderating factors in this study allows a more precise description of the relationships between all the variables mentioned and the outcome of the study. This study involves 306 respondents from the Klang Valley. Out of the 17 hypotheses tested, nine are supported. The analyses reveal positive relationships between functional value, emotional value, and consumers’ attitudes toward the hybrid car and the intention to purchase it. Besides, a significantly positive relationship is found among functional value, emotional value and conditional value, and the consumers’ attitudes toward the hybrid car. Consumers’ attitudes toward the hybrid car mediate the relationship between functional value, emotional value and conditional value and the intention to purchase the hybrid car. On the other hand, brand preference does not moderate the relationship between consumers’ attitudes toward the hybrid car and the intention to purchase it. The study also highlights the implications and limitations of the study as well as the suggestions for future research
