Information Extraction, Data Integration, and Uncertain Data Management: The State of The Art

Get PDF
Information Extraction, data Integration, and uncertain data management are different areas of research that got vast focus in the last two decades. Many researches tackled those areas of research individually. However, information extraction systems should have integrated with data integration methods to make use of the extracted information. Handling uncertainty in extraction and integration process is an important issue to enhance the quality of the data in such integrated systems. This article presents the state of the art of the mentioned areas of research and shows the common grounds and how to integrate information extraction and data integration under uncertainty management cover

Human-Centric Process-Aware Information Systems (HC-PAIS)

Get PDF
Process-Aware Information Systems (PAIS) support organizations in managing and automating their processes. A full automation of processes is in particular industries, such as service-oriented markets, not practicable. The integration of humans in PAIS is necessary to manage and perform processes that require human capabilities, judgments and decisions. A challenge of interdisciplinary PAIS research is to provide concepts and solutions that support human integration in PAIS and human orientation of PAIS in a way that provably increase the PAIS users' satisfaction and motivation with working with the Human-Centric Process Aware Information System (HC-PAIS) and consequently influence users' performance of tasks. This work is an initial step of research that aims at providing a definition of Human-Centric Process Aware Information Systems (HC-PAIS) and future research challenges of HC-PAIS. Results of focus group research are presented.Comment: 8 page

Assimilation of Enterprise Systems: The Mediating Role of Information Integration of Information Impact

Get PDF
Firms have invested heavily in information systems that collectively form an enterprise’s system. While many senior executives believe their enterprises’ systems have been “deployed” successfully they also believe they fall short of their potential informational impact. This research bridges deployment-related and impact-related assimilation research by recognizing the important role information integration plays in achieving significant informational impact from enterprise systems. We define information integration as the extent to which enterprise systems have been integrated to enable delivery of the right information to the right person at the right time and information impact as the extent to which information is utilized to support and enable business strategies and activities. After investigating the relationship between information integration and information impact, we identify and test the antecedents to information integration including external pressure and information systems resources. This research, when completed, will provide an important extension to the assimilation and information research streams

An architecture for bridging OO and business process modeling.

Workflow systems and object-oriented (OO) technology have undoubtedly been some of the most important domains of interest of information technology over the past decade. Both domains however, have largely evolved independently, and not much research can be found in which OO principles and concepts have been applied to workflow systems or vice versa. In this paper we show how the two domains can be integrated. By integrating both domains, business process modelling can benefit from the advantages of the object-oriented approach. On the other hand, a more process oriented approach to object-oriented development would enhance the organisational fit in of object-oriented information systems development. The architecture that results from this integration is a tier-based one with a separate tier for workflow aspects.Architecture; Processes; Systems; Information technology; Systems development; Integration;

A novel framework for the use of workflow system in the integration of supply chain tiers

The global competition has imposed challenges to supply chain integration, mainly, during the process of obtain information to make demand management decisions. This paper proposes an integrated framework for data collection, analysis and results dissemination in the supply chain management (SCM), contributing to research and alternatives for “The Bullwhip Effect” issue. In this sense, it is necessary to discuss the integration of supply chain management, Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) functionality and others systems, to enlarge this scope to the total supply chain players. The ERP web-based tool and Workflow Systems (WS) can contribute to solve issues related to supply chain management. Starting from a detailed analysis of the research background regarding current SCM definitions and integration problems, Information Technology and Communication (ITC) development and WS in order to map and ensure flow fluency; the paper proposes a model to increase the overall integrations and an application in a case study for supporting the decisions that are aligned with the company’s strategic objectives. This paper is divided in: research background; proposed model of the SC integration; case study, conclusions and future research

Analysis of Factors Affect to Organizational Performance in Using Accounting Information Systems Through Users Satisfaction and Integration Information Systems

The aim of this research is to investigate the factors affecting organizational performance in using accounting information system through users satisfaction and integration information systems. The research respondents were 447 companies that listed in Indonesian Stock Exchange. The data are gathered through consensus method and in total there are 176 responses with complete data. Structural Equation Model (SEM) is used in analyzing the data and system theory is utilized in this research. The result shows that knowledge management systems and management control system have significant influence on users satisfaction and integration information systems. Integration information system and users satisfaction has positive significant on organizational performance

National Aeronautics and Space Administration fundamental research program. Information utilization and evaluation

Get PDF
In the second half of the 1980's NASA can expect to face difficult choices among alternative fundamental and applied research, and development projects that could potentially lead to improvements in the information systems used to manage renewable resources. The working group on information utilization and evaluation believes that effective choices cannot be made without a better understanding of the current and prospective problems and opportunities involved in the application of remote sensing to improve renewable research information systems. A renewable resources information system is defined in a broad context to include a flow of data/information from: acquisition through processing, storage, integration with other data, analysis, graphic presentation, decision making, and assessment of the affects of those decisions

Information Systems Integration and its Impact on Knowledge Management Processes

The aim of this research paper is to identify the impact of information systems integration on knowledge management processes (discovery, capturing, sharing and application). Due to information systems integration is becoming more important for knowledge management initiatives. Data were collected via questionnaires from 113 employees working in the Arab Bank-Jordan. The study hypotheses were analyzed using SPSS (20) statistics. The results of this study Revealed that there is a significant impact of information systems integration on knowledge management processes (discovery, capturing, sharing and application). Therefore, the empirical findings will certainly help both researchers and practitioners in future Knowledge Management process. Interoperability in the OpenDreamKit Project: The Math-in-the-Middle Approach

OpenDreamKit --- "Open Digital Research Environment Toolkit for the Advancement of Mathematics" --- is an H2020 EU Research Infrastructure project that aims at supporting, over the period 2015--2019, the ecosystem of open-source mathematical software systems. From that, OpenDreamKit will deliver a flexible toolkit enabling research groups to set up Virtual Research Environments, customised to meet the varied needs of research projects in pure mathematics and applications. An important step in the OpenDreamKit endeavor is to foster the interoperability between a variety of systems, ranging from computer algebra systems over mathematical databases to front-ends. This is the mission of the integration work package (WP6). We report on experiments and future plans with the \emph{Math-in-the-Middle} approach. This information architecture consists in a central mathematical ontology that documents the domain and fixes a joint vocabulary, combined with specifications of the functionalities of the various systems. Interaction between systems can then be enriched by pivoting off this information architecture.Comment: 15 pages, 7 figure
