    Robotic Wireless Sensor Networks

    In this chapter, we present a literature survey of an emerging, cutting-edge, and multi-disciplinary field of research at the intersection of Robotics and Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) which we refer to as Robotic Wireless Sensor Networks (RWSN). We define a RWSN as an autonomous networked multi-robot system that aims to achieve certain sensing goals while meeting and maintaining certain communication performance requirements, through cooperative control, learning and adaptation. While both of the component areas, i.e., Robotics and WSN, are very well-known and well-explored, there exist a whole set of new opportunities and research directions at the intersection of these two fields which are relatively or even completely unexplored. One such example would be the use of a set of robotic routers to set up a temporary communication path between a sender and a receiver that uses the controlled mobility to the advantage of packet routing. We find that there exist only a limited number of articles to be directly categorized as RWSN related works whereas there exist a range of articles in the robotics and the WSN literature that are also relevant to this new field of research. To connect the dots, we first identify the core problems and research trends related to RWSN such as connectivity, localization, routing, and robust flow of information. Next, we classify the existing research on RWSN as well as the relevant state-of-the-arts from robotics and WSN community according to the problems and trends identified in the first step. Lastly, we analyze what is missing in the existing literature, and identify topics that require more research attention in the future

    Engine performance characteristics and evaluation of variation in the length of intake plenum

    In the engine with multipoint fuel injection system using electronically controlled fuel injectors has an intake manifold in which only the air flows and, the fuel is injected into the intake valve. Since the intake manifolds transport mainly air, the supercharging effects of the variable length intake plenum will be different from carbureted engine. Engine tests have been carried out with the aim of constituting a base study to design a new variable length intake manifold plenum. The objective in this research is to study the engine performance characteristics and to evaluate the effects of the variation in the length of intake plenum. The engine test bed used for experimental work consists of a control panel, a hydraulic dynamometer and measurement instruments to measure the parameters of engine performance characteristics. The control panel is being used to perform administrative and management operating system. Besides that, the hydraulic dynamometer was used to measure the power of an engine by using a cell filled with liquid to increase its load. Thus, measurement instrument is provided in this test to measure the as brake torque, brake power, thermal efficiency and specific fuel consumption. The results showed that the variation in the plenum length causes an improvement on the engine performance characteristics especially on the fuel consumption at high load and low engine speeds which are put forward the system using for urban roads. From this experiment, it will show the behavior of engine performance

    Wireless networking has evolved rapidly since the first wireless device was invented. Throughout those years, researchers and engineers are struggling to apply the knowledge of wireless networking in useful ways in real life. Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) has been used in many applications, from habitat surveying to critical monitoring. Reliability of the WSN plays a major role in deciding whether it should be used or not in critical applications instead of using traditional wireless technology or wired networking. This project is solely a research and development of routing algorithm for WSN by using an existing source and straight away finding its weak point in order to apply further improvisation. The existing routing algorithms used are the XMESH and Ad-Hoc On-Demand Vector Routing (AODV)

    OrthoNoC: a broadcast-oriented dual-plane wireless network-on-chip architecture

In response to this, novel interconnect technologies have opened the door to new Network-on-Chip (NoC) solutions towards greater scalability and architectural flexibility. Particularly, wireless on-chip communication has garnered considerable attention due to its inherent broadcast capabilities, low latency, and system-level simplicity. This work presents ORTHONOC, a wired-wireless architecture that differs from existing proposals in that both network planes are decoupled and driven by traffic steering policies enforced at the network interfaces. With these and other design decisions, ORTHONOC seeks to emphasize the ordered broadcast advantage offered by the wireless technology. The performance and cost of ORTHONOC are first explored using synthetic traffic, showing substantial improvements with respect to other wired-wireless designs with a similar number of antennas. Then, the applicability of ORTHONOC in the multiprocessor scenario is demonstrated through the evaluation of a simple architecture that implements fast synchronization via ordered broadcast transmissions. Simulations reveal significant execution time speedups and communication energy savings for 64-threaded benchmarks, proving that the value of ORTHONOC goes beyond simply improving the performance of the on-chip interconnect.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft
