This study examining the robotic codings and robotic tournaments from the perspectives of Information Technology (IT) teachers was carried out using the qualitative case study method. In the study, a total of 20 teachers from private schools and state schools were asked for their views. The research data collected from the IT teachers helped determine the advantages and limitations of robotic coding and robotic tournaments. The results revealed that the IT teachers generally reported positive views about robotic coding and robotic tournaments. In addition, the teachers reported that robotic coding activities arose the students’ curiosity and attention. As for the negative aspects, the teachers thought that students had to perform the tasks in a very limited time; that there was no equality between the materials owned; that the environment was encouraging; that the juries did not act objectively during the scoring phase; and that the tournaments served for corporate advertising. Consequently, it was found that the students achieved active learning with the help of the robotic coding trainings and tournaments, which increased their motivations

The article examines the problem of forming the information and digital competence of elementary school students by means of robotics. Our research work is aimed at analyzing the modern state of educational robotics, the readiness of educators for its teaching and experimental testing the possibilities of robotics as a means of forming information and digital competence of primary education seekers. The organization of pedagogical experiment meant diagnosis and correction of such components of information and digital competence as motivational, cognitive, active, reflexive, the formation of which took place in the course of pupils’ learning robotics constructors and interactive manuals devoted to the history and development of robots.  To measure the level of information and digital competence of primary school pupils the system of expert assessments of its components was used. As a result of observing behavior, accuracy, speed and independence during the fulfillment of special tasks connected with the search and processing of information, computational thinking, work on the Internet, understanding the ethics of working with information etc. the level of information and digital competence of every pupil is defined as the sum of all its indexes. The generalization of the results allowed the conclusions: the use of robotics constructors and interactive manuals, online resources that imitate actions with robots help to increase the level of information and digital competence of education seekers

The 21st-century skills needed to face the speed of understanding technology. Such as critical thinking in computer vision and robotics literacy, any student is hampered by the programming that is considered complicated. This study aims at the improvement of student embedded system programming competency with computer vision and mobile robotics integration approach. This method is proposed to attract the students to learn about embedded system programming by delivering integration between computer vision and robotics using the P-D controller since both of the fields are closely related. In this paper, the researcher described computer vision programming to get the data of captured images through the camera stream and then delivered the data into an embedded system to make the decision of robot movement. The output of this study is the improvement of a student’s ability to make an application to integrate a sensor system using a camera and the mobile robot running follow the line. The result of the test shows that the integration method between computer vision and robotics can improve the student’s programming comprehension by 40%. Based on the Feasibility test survey, it can be interpreted that from the whole assessment after being converted to qualitative data, all aspects of the learning stages of programming application tested with the integration of computer vision and robotics fall into the very feasible category for used with a percentage of feasibility by 77.44%

Mobilizing the Past for a Digital Future : The Potential of Digital Archaeology

    Get PDF
Mobilizing the Past is a collection of 20 articles that explore the use and impact of mobile digital technology in archaeological field practice. The detailed case studies present in this volume range from drones in the Andes to iPads at Pompeii, digital workflows in the American Southwest, and examples of how bespoke, DIY, and commercial software provide solutions and craft novel challenges for field archaeologists. The range of projects and contexts ensures that Mobilizing the Past for a Digital Future is far more than a state-of-the-field manual or technical handbook. Instead, the contributors embrace the growing spirit of critique present in digital archaeology. This critical edge, backed by real projects, systems, and experiences, gives the book lasting value as both a glimpse into present practices as well as the anxieties and enthusiasm associated with the most recent generation of mobile digital tools. This book emerged from a workshop funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities held in 2015 at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston. The workshop brought together over 20 leading practitioners of digital archaeology in the U.S. for a weekend of conversation. The papers in this volume reflect the discussions at this workshop with significant additional content. Starting with an expansive introduction and concluding with a series of reflective papers, this volume illustrates how tablets, connectivity, sophisticated software, and powerful computers have transformed field practices and offer potential for a radically transformed discipline.https://dc.uwm.edu/arthist_mobilizingthepast/1000/thumbnail.jp

Development of 21st century thinking skills in early childhood learners through coding and robotics

    Get PDF
The rise in dependency on technology has had an impact on the field of education. Specifically, young learners are being encouraged to start engaging with technology, and start developing 21st century thinking skills. There has also been a need to implement coding and robotics in schools, recently in South African schools, at a young age as well. This study aimed to develop a set of guidelines for teachers to implement when planning coding and robotic activities in early childhood education. The guidelines that were outlined in this study were discovered, implemented, and evaluated throughout the study. Therefore, the guidelines outlined in this study could pave the way for other teachers to best support the development of 21st century thinking skills in coding and robotics lessons. It is important to present opportunities to young learners to gain 21st century thinking skills, that can better equip them with the use of digital technologies. Therefore, by investigating the link between coding and robotic activities in early childhood education and the development of 21st century skills, this study provides ideas on how best to support the development in early childhood learners. The developments in the research illustrate the importance of the teachers understanding when designing and planning the coding and robotic activities designed for young learners. This study thus anticipates the need for early childhood learners to be prepared for the world of work, which implies the development of 21st century skills, specifically in coding and robotics.Dissertation (MEd)--University of Pretoria, 2021.Science, Mathematics and Technology EducationMedUnrestricte
