Review on Colour Image Denoising using Wavelet Soft Thresholding Technique

    Get PDF
In this modern age of communication the image and video is important as Visual information transmitted in the form of digital images, but after the transmission image is often ruined with noise. Therefore the received image needs to be processing before it can be used for further applications. Image denoising implicates the manipulation of the image data to produce a high quality of image without any noise. Most of the work which had done in color scale image is by filter domain approach, but we think that the transform domain approach give great result in the field of color image denoising.. This paper reviews the several types of noise which corrupted the color image and also the existing denoising algorithms based on wavelet threshodling technique. DOI: 10.17762/ijritcc2321-8169.15039

In this paper we proposed an efficient algorithm for Colo r Image Denoising through a Bivariate Pearson Distribution using Wavelet Which is based on Bayesian denoising and if Bayesian denoising is used for recovering image from the noisy image the performance is strictly depend on the correctness of the distribution that is used to describe the data. In the denoising process we require a selection of p roper model for distribution. To describe the image data bivariate pearson distribution is used and Gaussian distribution is used to describe the noise particles in this paper. For gray scale image lots of extensive works has been don e in this field but fo r colour image denoising using bivariate pearson distribution based on bayesian denoising gives us tremendous result for analy sing coloured images which can be used in several advanced applications. The bivariate probability density function (pdf) takes in t o account the Gaussian dependency among wavelet coefficients. The experimental results show that the proposed technique outperforms sev eral exiting methods both visually and in terms of peak signal - to - noise ratio (PSNR)

A GPU-accelerated real-time NLMeans algorithm for denoising color video sequences

Abstract. The NLMeans filter, originally proposed by Buades et al., is a very popular filter for the removal of white Gaussian noise, due to its simplicity and excellent performance. The strength of this filter lies in exploiting the repetitive character of structures in images. However, to fully take advantage of the repetitivity a computationally extensive search for similar candidate blocks is indispensable. In previous work, we presented a number of algorithmic acceleration techniques for the NLMeans filter for still grayscale images. In this paper, we go one step further and incorporate both temporal information and color information into the NLMeans algorithm, in order to restore video sequences. Starting from our algorithmic acceleration techniques, we investigate how the NLMeans algorithm can be easily mapped onto recent parallel computing architectures. In particular, we consider the graphical processing unit (GPU), which is available on most recent computers. Our developments lead to a high-quality denoising filter that can process DVD-resolution video sequences in real-time on a mid-range GPU

Translation-Invariant Shrinkage/Thresholding of Group Sparse Signals

This paper addresses signal denoising when large-amplitude coefficients form clusters (groups). The L1-norm and other separable sparsity models do not capture the tendency of coefficients to cluster (group sparsity). This work develops an algorithm, called 'overlapping group shrinkage' (OGS), based on the minimization of a convex cost function involving a group-sparsity promoting penalty function. The groups are fully overlapping so the denoising method is translation-invariant and blocking artifacts are avoided. Based on the principle of majorization-minimization (MM), we derive a simple iterative minimization algorithm that reduces the cost function monotonically. A procedure for setting the regularization parameter, based on attenuating the noise to a specified level, is also described. The proposed approach is illustrated on speech enhancement, wherein the OGS approach is applied in the short-time Fourier transform (STFT) domain. The denoised speech produced by OGS does not suffer from musical noise.Comment: 33 pages, 7 figures, 5 table

Image denoising using mixtures of projected Gaussian scale mixtures

We propose a new statistical model for image restoration in which neighbourhoods of wavelet subbands are modeled by a discrete mixture of linear projected Gaussian Scale Mixtures (MPGSM). In each projection, a lower dimensional approximation of the local neighbourhood is obtained, thereby modeling the strongest correlations in that neighbourhood. The model is a generalization of the recently developed Mixture of GSM (MGSM) model, that offers a significant improvement both in PSNR and visually compared to the current state-of-the-art wavelet techniques. However the computation cost is very high which hampers its use for practical purposes. We present a fast EM algorithm that takes advantage of the projection bases to speed up the algorithm. The results show that, when projecting on a fixed data-independent basis, even computational advantages with a limited loss of PSNR can be obtained with respect to the BLS-GSM denoising method, while data-dependent bases of Principle Components offer a higher denoising performance, both visually and in PSNR compared to the current wavelet-based state-of-the-art denoising methods
