    Multi-Robot Learning with Bat Algorithm With Mutation (Bam)

    The mobile robotics is an active area of research. Several methods are under study to increase and optimize the working capabilities of multi robotic systems. These multi robotic systems or robot swarms have vast applications in industry as a human assistant to carry goods and can-do variety of jobs. Multiple techniques like swarm optimization, cuckoo algorithm and other such algorithms are under study for multi robotic systems. In this research, a biological bat inspired algorithm is implemented to achieve the target. BAT algorithm is implemented to achieve the target. BAT algorithm uses echolocation technique like bats to generate bat population and random data is generated, the robot then traverses and the distance is calculated which is compared to the distance from the obstacle. The loop continues and robot keeps moving. For more than one robot, robots have statistic as well as dynamic obstacles. So, the traversal speed and efficiency of bad algorithm reduces slightly

    A Comprehensive Review of Bio-Inspired Optimization Algorithms Including Applications in Microelectronics and Nanophotonics

    The application of artificial intelligence in everyday life is becoming all-pervasive and unavoidable. Within that vast field, a special place belongs to biomimetic/bio-inspired algorithms for multiparameter optimization, which find their use in a large number of areas. Novel methods and advances are being published at an accelerated pace. Because of that, in spite of the fact that there are a lot of surveys and reviews in the field, they quickly become dated. Thus, it is of importance to keep pace with the current developments. In this review, we first consider a possible classification of bio-inspired multiparameter optimization methods because papers dedicated to that area are relatively scarce and often contradictory. We proceed by describing in some detail some more prominent approaches, as well as those most recently published. Finally, we consider the use of biomimetic algorithms in two related wide fields, namely microelectronics (including circuit design optimization) and nanophotonics (including inverse design of structures such as photonic crystals, nanoplasmonic configurations and metamaterials). We attempted to keep this broad survey self-contained so it can be of use not only to scholars in the related fields, but also to all those interested in the latest developments in this attractive area

    Hybrid artificial intelligence algorithms for short-term load and price forecasting in competitive electric markets

    The liberalization and deregulation of electric markets forced the various participants to accommodate several challenges, including: a considerable accumulation of new generation capacity from renewable sources (fundamentally wind energy), the unpredictability associated with these new forms of generation and new consumption patterns, contributing to further electricity prices volatility (e.g. the Iberian market). Given the competitive framework in which market participants operate, the existence of efficient computational forecasting techniques is a distinctive factor. Based on these forecasts a suitable bidding strategy and an effective generation systems operation planning is achieved, together with an improved installed transmission capacity exploitation, results in maximized profits, all this contributing to a better energy resources utilization. This dissertation presents a new hybrid method for load and electricity prices forecasting, for one day ahead time horizon. The optimization scheme presented in this method, combines the efforts from different techniques, notably artificial neural networks, several optimization algorithms and wavelet transform. The method’s validation was made using different real case studies. The subsequent comparison (accuracy wise) with published results, in reference journals, validated the proposed hybrid method suitability.O processo de liberalização e desregulação dos mercados de energia elétrica, obrigou os diversos participantes a acomodar uma série de desafios, entre os quais: a acumulação considerável de nova capacidade de geração proveniente de origem renovável (fundamentalmente energia eólica), a imprevisibilidade associada a estas novas formas de geração e novos padrões de consumo. Resultando num aumento da volatilidade associada aos preços de energia elétrica (como é exemplo o mercado ibérico). Dado o quadro competitivo em que os agentes de mercado operam, a existência de técnicas computacionais de previsão eficientes, constituí um fator diferenciador. É com base nestas previsões que se definem estratégias de licitação e se efetua um planeamento da operação eficaz dos sistemas de geração que, em conjunto com um melhor aproveitamento da capacidade de transmissão instalada, permite maximizar os lucros, realizando ao mesmo tempo um melhor aproveitamento dos recursos energéticos. Esta dissertação apresenta um novo método híbrido para a previsão da carga e dos preços da energia elétrica, para um horizonte temporal a 24 horas. O método baseia-se num esquema de otimização que reúne os esforços de diferentes técnicas, nomeadamente redes neuronais artificiais, diversos algoritmos de otimização e da transformada de wavelet. A validação do método foi feita em diferentes casos de estudo reais. A posterior comparação com resultados já publicados em revistas de referência, revelou um excelente desempenho do método hibrido proposto

    Algorithms and Methods for Designing and Scheduling Smart Manufacturing Systems

    This book, as a Special Issue, is a collection of some of the latest advancements in designing and scheduling smart manufacturing systems. The smart manufacturing concept is undoubtedly considered a paradigm shift in manufacturing technology. This conception is part of the Industry 4.0 strategy, or equivalent national policies, and brings new challenges and opportunities for the companies that are facing tough global competition. Industry 4.0 should not only be perceived as one of many possible strategies for manufacturing companies, but also as an important practice within organizations. The main focus of Industry 4.0 implementation is to combine production, information technology, and the internet. The presented Special Issue consists of ten research papers presenting the latest works in the field. The papers include various topics, which can be divided into three categories—(i) designing and scheduling manufacturing systems (seven articles), (ii) machining process optimization (two articles), (iii) digital insurance platforms (one article). Most of the mentioned research problems are solved in these articles by using genetic algorithms, the harmony search algorithm, the hybrid bat algorithm, the combined whale optimization algorithm, and other optimization and decision-making methods.     Analysis and Development of Computational Intelligence based Navigational Controllers for Multiple Mobile Robots

    Navigational path planning problems of the mobile robots have received considerable attention over the past few decades. The navigation problem of mobile robots are consisting of following three aspects i.e. locomotion, path planning and map building. Based on these three aspects path planning algorithm for a mobile robot is formulated, which is capable of finding an optimal collision free path from the start point to the target point in a given environment. The main objective of the dissertation is to investigate the advanced methodologies for both single and multiple mobile robots navigation in highly cluttered environments using computational intelligence approach. Firstly, three different standalone computational intelligence approaches based on the Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS), Cuckoo Search (CS) algorithm and Invasive Weed Optimization (IWO) are presented to address the problem of path planning in unknown environments. Next two different hybrid approaches are developed using CS-ANFIS and IWO-ANFIS to solve the mobile robot navigation problems. The performance of each intelligent navigational controller is demonstrated through simulation results using MATLAB. Experimental results are conducted in the laboratory, using real mobile robots to validate the versatility and effectiveness of the proposed navigation techniques. Comparison studies show, that there are good agreement between them. During the analysis of results, it is noticed that CS-ANFIS and IWO-ANFIS hybrid navigational controllers perform better compared to other discussed navigational controllers. The results obtained from the proposed navigation techniques are validated by comparison with the results from other intelligent techniques such as Fuzzy logic, Neural Network, Genetic Algorithm (GA), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) and other hybrid algorithms. By investigating the results, finally it is concluded that the proposed navigational methodologies are efficient and robust in the sense, that they can be effectively implemented to solve the path optimization problems of mobile robot in any complex environment

    A new priority rule cloud scheduling technique that utilizes gaps to increase the efficiency of jobs distribution

    In recent years, the concept of cloud computing has been gaining traction to provide dynamically increasing access to shared computing resources (software and hardware) via the internet. It’s no secret that cloud computing’s ability to supply mission-critical services has made job scheduling a hot subject in the industry right now. However, the efficient utilization of these cloud resources has been a challenge, often resulting in wastage or degraded service performance due to poor scheduling. To solve this issue, existing research has been focused on queue-based job scheduling techniques, where jobs are scheduled based on specific deadlines or job lengths. To overcome this challenge, numerous researchers have focused on improving existing Priority Rule (PR) cloud schedulers by developing dynamic scheduling algorithms, but they have fallen short of meeting user satisfaction, such as flowtime, makespan, and total tardiness. These are the limitations of the current implementation of existing Priority Rule (PR) schedulers, mainly caused by blocking made by jobs at the head of the queue. These limitations lead to the poor performance of cloud-based mobile applications and other cloud services. To address this issue, the main objective of this research is to improve the existing PR cloud schedulers by developing a new dynamic scheduling algorithm by manipulating the gaps in the cloud job schedule. In this thesis, first a Priority-Based Fair Scheduling (PBFS) algorithm has been introduced to schedule jobs so that jobs get access to the required resources at optimal times. Then, a backfilling strategy called Shortest Gap Priority-Based Fair Scheduling (SG-PBFS) is proposed that attempts to manipulate the gaps in the schedule of cloud jobs. Finally, the performance evaluation demonstrates that the proposed SG-PBFS algorithm outperforms SG-SJF, SG-LJF, SG-FCFS, SG-EDF, and SG-(MAX-MIN) in terms of flow time, makespan time, and total tardiness, which conclusively demonstrates its effectiveness. The experiment result shows that for 500 jobs, SG-PBFS flow time, makespan time, and tardiness time are 9%, 4%, and 7% less than PBFS gradually
