On Max Born's "Vorlesungen ueber Atommechanik, Erster Band"

A little more than half a year before Matrix Mechanics was born, Max Born finished his book "Vorlesungen ueber Atommechanik, Erster Band", which is a state-of-the-art presentation of Bohr-Sommerfeld quantisation. This book, which today seems almost forgotten, is remarkable for its epistemological as well as technical aspects. Here I wish to highlight one aspect in each of these two categories, the first being concerned with the role of axiomatisation in the heuristics of physics, the second with the problem of quantisation proper before Heisenberg and Schroedinger. This paper is a contribution to the project "History and Foundations of Quantum Physics" of the Max Planck Institute for the History of Sciences in Berlin and will appear in the book "Research and Pedagogy. The History of Quantum Physics through its Textbooks", edited by M.Badino and J.Navarro

Ressources historiques pour l'enseignement: une étude de cas portant sur la matérialité de l'air

This paper shows results of a work in progress on the genesis of scientific scholar knowledge at primary school concerning the materiality of the air. Such historical studies need to constitute two types of corpus: handbooks of the primary education between 1882 and 2006, the scientific texts of XVIIth, XVIIIth and XIXth centuries. Such corpus are very helpful to introduce history of sciences in teacher training

Sur l'usage d'outils didactiques à caractère historique pour l'enseignement des sciences

Official French texts have asserted a real orientation in favour of epistemology and history of sciences and techniques (EHST). We want to interrogate what is a «historical» teaching tool and the nature of teaching knowledges and methods. This question is important because EHST is not a school discipline. Thus, it is necessary to define first the referees knowledges and then, their didactic transposition. So, we’ll have to collect historical material, to produce a didactic engineering to make the special tools we need in teachers training
