Handbook of Open, Distance and Digital Education

Social networking and open educational resources: updating quality assurance for e-learning excellence
Quality assurance approaches in higher education are well-established, but it is important to develop methods which are applicable to the domain of e-learning. The E-xcellence methodology (EADTU, 2009a) was therefore designed to assess the quality of e-learning in distance learning and blended learning contexts. The methodology is based around a set of benchmarks, supported by a practitioner handbook and a web-based ‘QuickScan’ self-evaluation tool. Experience shows that the E-xcellence methodology is particularly valuable for the process of improvement through collaborative internal review.
E-learning has evolved since the E-xcellence methodology was first developed. In particular, there is increasing awareness and use of open education resources (OERs) and social networking. However, these aspects were not explicit in the original E-xcellence resources. The E-xcellence Next project was therefore established to update the resources, incorporating these developments. To begin this process, a consultation was carried out among E-xcellence Next project members, followed by a participatory workshop on the themes of social networking and OERs. The E-xcellence resources were also used in a series of self-evaluation seminars held at European higher education institutions. Experience and feedback from these activities has been used to update the manual, the benchmarks and the QuickScan tool. The result is a set of quality assurance resources which encompass social networking, OERs and other recent developments in e-learning
There is More to Vision than Seeing Clearly
Vision is not simply the ability to read a certain size letter at a distance of 20 feet. Vision is a complex and adaptable information gathering and processing system which collects, groups, analyzes, accumulates, equates, and remembers information (American Optometric Association, 2005, p.1). The purpose of this project is to develop a parent/caregiver handbook that will educate parent/caregivers with children who have visual deficits and to benefit the Vision Therapy Project, which is located in Casper, Wyoming. This project is a non-profit organization dedicated to provide assistance and education to parents/caregivers with children in need of vision therapy. Information for The Vision Therapy Project Parent/Caregiver Handbook was gathered from an extensive review of literature and research. The findings from this review demonstrated a high percentage of school-aged children entering the school system do not receive a comprehensive visual screen to detect visual deficits therefore many school-aged children are being misdiagnosed or labeled with learning disorders by educators and parents/caregivers. This handbook is intended to be used by an occupational therapist to facilitate parental involvement, address areas which are impacting children\u27s learning, and to develop a better understanding of the vision therapy treatment being provided to their child. The parent/caregiver educational handbook contains information regarding the development of the visual system; visual deficits and disorders that result from a dysfunction within the visual system; how other senses work together in conjunction with vision; what is occupational therapy (OT) and vision therapy (VT) and the services provided; parents/caregivers roles with therapy in the home and office; and resources for parents/caregivers to access. The Vision Therapy Project parent handbook will allow parents/caregivers to become effective advocates, and increase the child\u27s success within their academic environment as well as independence with their occupational performance
Moving Forward in P-3 Alignemnt: Building Bridges in Public-Private Partnerships
Reauthorization of the Head Start Act in 2007 called for new standards of quality education and evidenced-based practices for gathering child outcomes and assessment data. Furthermore, the act stipulates partnerships between public education K-12 and preschools; a relationship that traditionally held its distance due to age eligibility. With the recent acquisition of the Race to the Top Early Learning Challenge grant, Washington state is now recognized for its leadership in this field. This paper will take into consideration these efforts and further explore options for creating seamless transitions for children and families as they enter the public school system. This project will provide recommendations for schools and private agencies in moving towards an aligned approach to education, in the format of a guidebook written for facilitators. The development of the handbook is specific to school districts or programs seeking to launch focus groups around the goal of a collaborative approach to alignment in the early grades

Pengembangan Bahan Ajar e-Modul Menggunakan Aplikasi Flibook Pada Materi Klasifikasi Makhluk Hidup
Education is important to create an intelligent, peaceful, open and democratic society. Therefore educational reform must always be carried out to improve the quality of education of a nation. E-module is a supporting factor in the teaching and learning process. The purpose of this research is to produce an e-module using the flipbook application on the classification of living things. The research method used in this research is the research and development method. The 4-D development model consists of four main stages, However, in this study the development that will be carried out will only reach the develop stage. The results of this study concluded that the development of interactive e-modules has very good qualifications. The development of an e-module is needed in connection with the implementation of distance education which has very different learning conditions from before the Covid 19 pandemic. The natural science material available in the student handbook is incomplete and makes it difficult for students to understand the material that must be delivered with face-to-face limitation
