A review of information flow diagrammatic models for product-service systems

    Get PDF
A product-service system (PSS) is a combination of products and services to create value for both customers and manufacturers. Modelling a PSS based on function orientation offers a useful way to distinguish system inputs and outputs with regards to how data are consumed and information is used, i.e. information flow. This article presents a review of diagrammatic information flow tools, which are designed to describe a system through its functions. The origin, concept and applications of these tools are investigated, followed by an analysis of information flow modelling with regards to key PSS properties. A case study of selection laser melting technology implemented as PSS will then be used to show the application of information flow modelling for PSS design. A discussion based on the usefulness of the tools in modelling the key elements of PSS and possible future research directions are also presented

What is the Payoff of HiPo Programs, and Are Companies De-Investing in Them?

    Get PDF
[Excerpt] The average firm spends 27% of its learning and development budget on its high-potential (HiPo) programs, and two-thirds of companies divert budget away from other talent investments to fund HiPo initiatives. Companies believe in the value of HiPos and are thus heavily investing in them, however many are struggling to generate a return on investment. In fact, research from the Corporate Executive Board shows that 73% of HiPo programs show no return on investment. Bleak ROIs are resulting in some companies reevaluating their strategies for these formal programs or considering de-investing in these programs altogether. Prior to de-investing it’s essential to weigh the options of modifying the program in place versus reallocating the budget for investments in alternative talent development practices

    Reliability measurement during software development

    Get PDF
During the development of data base software for a multi-sensor tracking system, reliability was measured. The failure ratio and failure rate were found to be consistent measures. Trend lines were established from these measurements that provided good visualization of the progress on the job as a whole as well as on individual modules. Over one-half of the observed failures were due to factors associated with the individual run submission rather than with the code proper. Possible application of these findings for line management, project managers, functional management, and regulatory agencies is discussed. Steps for simplifying the measurement process and for use of these data in predicting operational software reliability are outlined

Development of life prediction capabilities for liquid propellant rocket engines. Post-fire diagnostic system for the SSME system architecture study

    Get PDF
This system architecture task (1) analyzed the current process used to make an assessment of engine and component health after each test or flight firing of an SSME, (2) developed an approach and a specific set of objectives and requirements for automated diagnostics during post fire health assessment, and (3) listed and described the software applications required to implement this system. The diagnostic system described is a distributed system with a database management system to store diagnostic information and test data, a CAE package for visual data analysis and preparation of plots of hot-fire data, a set of procedural applications for routine anomaly detection, and an expert system for the advanced anomaly detection and evaluation

Detailed design specification for the ALT Shuttle Information Extraction Subsystem (SIES)

    Get PDF
The approach and landing test (ALT) shuttle information extraction system (SIES) is described in terms of general requirements and system characteristics output products and processing options, output products and data sources, and system data flow. The ALT SIES is a data reduction system designed to satisfy certain data processing requirements for the ALT phase of the space shuttle program. The specific ALT SIES data processing requirements are stated in the data reduction complex approach and landing test data processing requirements. In general, ALT SIES must produce time correlated data products as a result of standardized data reduction or special purpose analytical processes. The main characteristics of ALT SIES are: (1) the system operates in a batch (non-interactive) mode; (2) the processing is table driven; (3) it is data base oriented; (4) it has simple operating procedures; and (5) it requires a minimum of run time information

Spacelab software development and integration concepts study report, volume 1

The proposed software guidelines to be followed by the European Space Research Organization in the development of software for the Spacelab being developed for use as a payload for the space shuttle are documented. Concepts, techniques, and tools needed to assure the success of a programming project are defined as they relate to operation of the data management subsystem, support of experiments and space applications, use with ground support equipment, and for integration testing

A requirements specification for a software design support system

    Get PDF
Most existing software design systems (SDSS) support the use of only a single design methodology. A good SDSS should support a wide variety of design methods and languages including structured design, object-oriented design, and finite state machines. It might seem that a multiparadigm SDSS would be expensive in both time and money to construct. However, it is proposed that instead an extensible SDSS that directly implements only minimal database and graphical facilities be constructed. In particular, it should not directly implement tools to faciliate language definition and analysis. It is believed that such a system could be rapidly developed and put into limited production use, with the experience gained used to refine and evolve the systems over time

Computer Sales Forecasting System Application Using Web-Based Single Moving Average Method

    Get PDF
Abstract—Hamas Com Computer Store is one of the computer shops in the city of Surakarta. There is a change in the turnover of toy sales every year, management management in managing the store's financial statements. hence the need for a system that can forecast sales of goods for the coming year. The purpose of this research is to design a computer goods sales forecasting system by applying the Single Moving Average method. This method was chosen because it has the ability to observe, look for the average value as a forecast for the future period. Data collection techniques in this research are observation (observation), interviews (interviews) and literature study. In the design of this system is made with Context Diagram, HIPO, DAD, relations between tables, database design and UML. This application is made using the PHP programming language and the database uses MySQL. The final result is a sales data report and sales prediction results. The results of the tracking signal control chart error test results show a value of no more than 4 so the system is declared good

Orange Carwash is a car wash service business that has been running in 2018, Orange Car. The wash address that I studied is located at Jalan Adi Sucipto no.110 Blulukan Colomadu In running a car wash service business, Orange Carwash tries to provide services to customers, regarding inputting types of washing products, member entry, express washing promos, and payment transaction methods. The system used is still classified as manual. For the purpose of this research, it really helps companies in terms of promoting and introducing products to car wash consumers with a computerized system using the cloud-based Moka Pos application. The method in this research is through observation, interviews, documentation, and heritage studies (looking for references from books or journals). The system design is made with context diagrams, HIPO, DAD, input output design, hardware requirements analysis, software requirements analysis. By using online input, the cashier will find it easier to group the washing type product data, as well as compile accurate and efficient reports. The final result of designing an online car wash service information system, using the Moka Pos application, in the form of sales report recap data and the number of types of washing products, classification of types of washing products, and the washer name of each cashier, which will be designed by the car wash.
