OBJECTIVES: Physician compliance with standard precautions is important in the specialty of gynecology and obstetrics because of the high frequency of invasive procedures. The current study investigated compliance with standard precautions among resident physicians working in gynecology and obstetrics. METHOD: A cross-sectional study was conducted among resident physicians in gynecology and obstetrics in their first (R1), second (R2) and third (R3) years of residency at a teaching hospital in a city in SĂŁo Paulo. A structured questionnaire that included demographic and professional aspects and the Standard Precautions Adherence Scale were used to collect data. Statistical analysis was performed using IBMÂź SPSS version 20. Ethical aspects were considered. RESULTS: Fifty-eight resident physicians participated in the study. Of the enrolled participants, 27 (46.6%) were in R1, 12 (20.7%) were in R2 and 19 (32.8%) were in R3. The standard precautions compliance score was 4.1, which was classified as intermediate. There were no significant differences in the compliance scores of the resident physicians across the three years of residency (H=2.34, p=0.310). CONCLUSION: Compliance with standard precautions among resident physicians was intermediate. Preventive measures in clinical practice are not fully adopted in the specialty of gynecology and obstetrics. More important, many professionals claimed lack of sufficient training in standard precautions in the workplace. Such circumstances should draw the attention of hospital management with regard to occupational health risks

Introduction: Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a polysaccharide classified in the group of glycosaminoglycans. Naturally it occurs in the dermis and is responsible for the elasticity of the skin. In medicine, it can be found cross-linked, partially cross-linked or non-cross-linked, which is associated with different densities and the ability to bind water molecules. It (HA) is used in many areas, including ophthalmology, rheumatology, and dermatology. There are many studies and reports, that it can be used in gynecology and obstetrics in various diseases.Material and methods: The PubMed scientific base was reviewed in 2015-2022 using the keywords hyaluronic acid, gynecology, obstetrics. Results: Intrauterine adhesions are a complication of various procedures performed in the uterine cavity, from curettage to removal of the septum or uterine fibroids. Numerous studies suggest, that hyaluronic acid may be an effective agent in preventing formation of adhesions. For menopausal women, it may relieve symptoms associated with vaginal atrophy. Indocyanine green is used for intraoperative visualization of neoplastic tissues and used in case of cervical cancer. There are reports, that stating hyaluronic acid can increase stability of this substance, which can improve imaging. In the case of hyaluronic acid in the form of vaginal gel, a beneficial effect on hydration and sexual function of women both after childbirth and after menopause was noticed. There are reports of its use in prevention of ovarian failure after chemotherapy and its positive aspects in assisted reproductive techniques. Conclusions: Hyaluronic acid can be used in many gynecological and obstetric diseases, positively influencing the life of women in both fertility and sexual areas and also in the group of cancer patients. Therefore, further large, randomized, multicentre studies confirming action of this substance, determining its dose, method and schedule of administration are important

The goat is one of the most fertile species among our domestic animals. Usually there are no problems with the matings and conception rate is very high, 96-98%. Birth and delivery are simple events in the goat and usually no problems arise. Now and then, however, the goat is in need of obstetrical help and in such instances it is often found that the problem is greater than in cases with sheep

Introduction Given the necessity to improve the knowledge and technical skills in gynecology and obstetrics of the health teams of the Family Health Community Hospitals (FHCH) in the Chilean Health Service, a training program was implemented to provide quality and safe care to the newborn, the mother and her family, Objectives To develop a training program called Teaching Pavilion, to improve the knowledge and technical skills of medical teams in the field of gynecology and obstetrics, ultrasound and anesthesia of all FHCH, and thereby contribute to the strengthening of those maternity units that are close to the family and the community. Methods The program consisted in the development of the following training activities: Internship, Case Study, Ultrasound Practice, Surgical Practice and Anesthesia Practice in an itinerant way in the five FHCH of the region. Results The implementation of the program allowed for the training in gynecology and obstetrics of 100% of the FHCH medical teams in 2008, improving knowledge and technical skills by decreasing obstetric referrals and developing a better care network. Conclusions The successful experience we present in this article may be useful to other health services that wish to strengthen their maternities through the implementation of teaching pavilions that provide a higher quality and safe care to the users of public health care networks.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version
