Development of Artificial Hand Gripper by using Microcontroller
This paper focuses on the development of a measurement hand gripper to help handicap patient due to accident and diseases. Basically, when the patient needed to perform exercises they must get an appointment with a doctor. Normally this will take few weeks or months. This is because the rehabilitation devices at Physiotherapy Department in hospital are very limited. From this problem, we suggest to develop a reasonably cheap home-based rehabilitation measurement devices which can perform the task of assisting paralyze patient at home. The basic movement of the patient was limited from a wrist, elbow and shoulder. The development of this project involves the designing of a sensors equipped Smart Glove and a measurement hand gripper device. The hand gripper device will move based on a human operator’s finger movement using the Smart Glove. The purpose of our project is to design and develop a master-slave system robotic hand which can be a substitution for the paralyzed hand in therapy to aid in recovery process of patients upper limb function. The project involves an Arduino microcontroller for the instrumentation, communication and controlling applications. A series of flex sensors are fitted in a master glove to get readings from the movement of human fingers. Microcontroller will further use this information to control multiple servos that controls the movement of slave robotic hand
Multi-sensor based segmentation of human manipulation tasks
Proceedings of: 2010 IEEE Conference on Multisensor Fusion and Integration for Intelligent Systems (FMI), September 5-7, 2010, Salt Lake City, USAIn this paper we present an overview of a multisensor
setup designed to record and analyse human in-hand
manipulation - tasks consisting of several phases of finger
motions following the initial grasp. During the experiments all
of the hand, finger, and object positions are recorded, as are
the contact forces applied to the manipulated objects. The use
of instrumented sensing objects complements the data.
The goal is to understand and extract a basic set of finger
and hand movement patterns, which can then be combined
to perform a complete manipulation task, and which can
be transferred to control robotic hands. The segmentation of
whole manipulation traces into several phases corresponding to
individual basic patterns is the first step towards this goal. Initial analysis and segmentation of two typical manipulation tasks are presented, showing the advantages of the multi-modal analysis.European Community's Seventh Framework ProgramThis work is partially supported by the European project HANDLE ICT-23641O, www.handleproject.eul
experimental, obteniendo resultados alentadores.

Object affordance as a guide for grasp-type recognition
Recognizing human grasping strategies is an important factor in robot
teaching as these strategies contain the implicit knowledge necessary to
perform a series of manipulations smoothly. This study analyzed the effects of
object affordance-a prior distribution of grasp types for each object-on
convolutional neural network (CNN)-based grasp-type recognition. To this end,
we created datasets of first-person grasping-hand images labeled with grasp
types and object names, and tested a recognition pipeline leveraging object
affordance. We evaluated scenarios with real and illusory objects to be
grasped, to consider a teaching condition in mixed reality where the lack of
visual object information can make the CNN recognition challenging. The results
show that object affordance guided the CNN in both scenarios, increasing the
accuracy by 1) excluding unlikely grasp types from the candidates and 2)
enhancing likely grasp types. In addition, the "enhancing effect" was more
pronounced with high degrees of grasp-type heterogeneity. These results
indicate the effectiveness of object affordance for guiding grasp-type
recognition in robot teaching applications.Comment: 12 pages, 11 figures. Last updated February 27th, 202
A gripper-like exoskeleton design for robot grasping demonstration
Learning from demonstration (LfD) is a practical method for transferring skill knowledge from a human demonstrator to a robot. Several studies have shown the effectiveness of LfD in robotic grasping tasks to improve the success rate of grasping and to accelerate the development of new robotic grasping tasks. A well-designed demonstration device can effectively represent human grasping motion to transfer grasping skills to robots. In this paper, an improved gripper-like exoskeleton with a data collection system is proposed. First, we present the mechatronic details of the exoskeleton and its motion-tracking system, considering the manipulation flexibility and data acquisition requirements. We then present the capabilities of the device and its data collection system, which collects the position, pose and displacement of the gripper on the exoskeleton. The collected data is further processed by the data acquisition and processing software. Next, we describe the principles of Gaussian mixture model (GMM) and Gaussian mixture regression (GMR) in robot skill learning, which are used to transfer the raw data from demonstrations to robot motions. In the experiment, an optimized trajectory was learned from multiple demonstrations and reproduced on a robot. The results show that the GMR complemented with GMM is able to learn a smooth trajectory from demonstration trajectories with noise
