The Clinic Narrative: A Multiple Case Study of Integrated Knowledge Translation and Equity-Oriented Primary Health Care
Understanding how PHC organizations implement changes to achieve equity-oriented care will add to the knowledge base regarding primary care renewal. Implementation science or knowledge translation (KT) has emerged, with the goal of enhancing evidence-based practice by implementing strategies of knowledge mobilization. Questions in this qualitative multiple case study were: 1) How does a new knowledge product, a ‘clinic narrative’, co-created by the researchers and the clinic leads, influence practices in the clinic specific to equity-oriented care?, 2) What facilitates or constrains the use of the narrative? and, 3) What are the novel uses of the narrative for organizational goals? The Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research and Integrated Knowledge Translation were used to guide data collection and analysis. Results indicate that the clinics perceived the intervention positively with multiple uses. The results of this study will help researchers and other decision makers understand how an evidence-based knowledge synthesis tool can assist PHC organizations in improving equity-oriented care
DDB-EDM to FaBiO: The Case of the German Digital Library
Cultural heritage portals have the goal of providing users with seamless access to all their resources. This paper introduces initial efforts for a user-oriented restructuring of the German Digital Library (DDB). At present, cultural heritage objects (CHOs) in the DDB are modeled using an extended version of the Europeana Data Model (DDBEDM), which negatively impacts usability and exploration. These challenges can be addressed by leveraging ontologies, and building a knowledge graph from the DDB's voluminous collection. Towards this goal, an alignment of bibliographic metadata from DDB-EDM to FRBR-Aligned Bibliographic Ontology (FaBiO) is presented

Generating recommendations for entity-oriented exploratory search
We introduce the task of recommendation set generation for entity-oriented
exploratory search. Given an input search query which is open-ended or
under-specified, the task is to present the user with an easily-understandable
collection of query recommendations, with the goal of facilitating domain
exploration or clarifying user intent. Traditional query recommendation systems
select recommendations by identifying salient keywords in retrieved documents,
or by querying an existing taxonomy or knowledge base for related concepts. In
this work, we build a text-to-text model capable of generating a collection of
recommendations directly, using the language model as a "soft" knowledge base
capable of proposing new concepts not found in an existing taxonomy or set of
retrieved documents. We train the model to generate recommendation sets which
optimize a cost function designed to encourage comprehensiveness,
interestingness, and non-redundancy. In thorough evaluations performed by crowd
workers, we confirm the generalizability of our approach and the high quality
of the generated recommendations

Reusable Knowledge-based Components for Building Software Applications: A Knowledge Modelling Approach
In computer science, different types of reusable components for building software applications were proposed as a direct consequence of the emergence of new software programming paradigms. The success of these components for building applications depends on factors such as the flexibility in their combination or the facility for their selection in centralised or distributed environments such as internet. In this article, we propose a general type of reusable component, called primitive of representation, inspired by a knowledge-based approach that can promote reusability. The proposal can be understood as a generalisation of existing partial solutions that is applicable to both software and knowledge engineering for the development of hybrid applications that integrate conventional and knowledge based techniques. The article presents the structure and use of the component and describes our recent experience in the development of real-world applications based on this approach

Software development: A paradigm for the future
A new paradigm for software development that treats software development as an experimental activity is presented. It provides built-in mechanisms for learning how to develop software better and reusing previous experience in the forms of knowledge, processes, and products. It uses models and measures to aid in the tasks of characterization, evaluation and motivation. An organization scheme is proposed for separating the project-specific focus from the organization's learning and reuse focuses of software development. The implications of this approach for corporations, research and education are discussed and some research activities currently underway at the University of Maryland that support this approach are presented
