    Get PDF
The mp3 is a rising issue in today\u27s news. Through research and documentation of interviews, this thesis covers: what the mp3 is; issues surrounding its use; technology versus intellectual property; ethics involved in file swapping; past and current litigations involving the mp3; and possible solutions to the mp3 issue. The mp3 is a great technology that can be a boon to both music listeners and the recording industry alike, if both sides are willing to find a compromise that can balance fair use of technology versus the right to be compensated for intellectual property

Audio or video podcasts can offer students different ways of learning and can add value by providing access to learning materials β€˜on the move’. This paper presents an initial investigation into the use of excel podcasts for undergraduate and foundation level students in different faculties at a single university. The podcasts were shown in lecture and seminar settings and uploaded to an online server for all students to access in their own time; either via a web browser or portable video player such as an iPod. Results for the on-going study were positive with the majority of students using them for developing their understanding of excel and exam revision. Students expressed an interest in having similar supplementary learning materials for other modules. Such conclusions drawn from this study highlight the need to investigate the use of podcasts further in the teaching and learning environment

Introduction by Professor David Gordon, World Federation for Medical Education.Annotated and edited transcript of a Witness Seminar held on 24 May 2011. Introduction by Professor David Gordon, World Federation for Medical Education. The Avon Longitudinal Survey of Parents and Children (ALSPAC) arose from a proposal in the mid-1980s to design a cohort study in Europe which concentrated on the health of children. The UK-side of this was developed in the former county of Avon and the study has followed more than 14000 children, due between April 1991 and December 1992, from their mothers' pregnancies onwards. A vast amount of data has been collected on health, lifestyle, and environment as well as biological samples of urine, blood and DNA. This has been used to establish genetic and environmental determinants of development and health. With an introduction by Professor David Gordon, this volume addresses the origin and development of ALSPAC, the problems of funding such a major study, the variety of methodologies employed, and the ethical questions associated with the project. Contributors include several of the major scientists involved with ALSPAC including Professor Jean Golding, Scientific and Executive Director of the study until December 2005, as well as clinical scientists, epidemiologists, members of the ethics committee, field workers and study parents.https://qmro.qmul.ac.uk/xmlui/handle/123456789/272

Social interactions using an electronic rabbit

    Get PDF
In this project we use an electronic rabbit called Karotz, created by French company Violet. The rabbits have the ability to connect autonomously to a WI-FI network. IN this project we use Karotz to record an audio log that will contain sounds of the environment. We also programmed a way for the rabbit to send audio to its other Karotz friend. We explored if Karotz can be used to help people stay in contact with each other and to feel less homesick
