Galaxy formation: from primordial fluctuations to structure formation in the Universe

Durante questa tesi studieremo principalmente i modelli di formazione di struttura nel universo di Press & Schechter(1974) e di White & Rees (1978), che spiegano la formazione galattica con un modello gerarchico di formazione di tutte le strutture cosmiche, dalla crescita delle piccole perturbazioni primordiali fino alla formazione della materia, e come essa si evolve per formare stelle e poi sistemi stellari, cioè, galassie. Una parte importante di questa tesi sarà dedicata a studiare la formazione di aloni di materia oscura, che sono vere e proprie buche di potenziale, in cui la materia barionica caderà per formare la galassia. Finalmente, studieremo la formazione di strutture luminose, come sono le stelle, al interno degli aloni di materia oscura ed a cos'è dovuto le diverse morfologie che vediamo in diverse galassie. Confronteremo i risultati più importanti dei modelli teorici studiati con dati osservativi ed esperimentali moderni

The formation of catechists through a laboratory

This article seeks to show how the on-going formation of catechists can be more adapted to the contemporary needs of catechists. Today, we can no longer speak of a homogeneous society which encounters the same difficulties and problems. On the other hand, our society is characterised by fluidity and constant change. The laboratory as a method for the on-going formation of catechists seeks to actively meet this demand. The laboratory as a method for the formation of catechists is undergirded by characteristics and advantages over and above the other traditional methods of catechist formation which clearly make it the preferred method for the on-going formation of catechists today. Lo studio e' stato realizzato da Stoa' e Studio Staff nell'ambito del progetto "AGAIN-ST ABANDON Contrastare il fenomeno degli abbandoni, ripensare i linguaggi della consulenza". Il progetto Again-st Abandon, finanziato dal Programma europeo "Leonardo da Vinci", si pone l'obiettivo di contrastare il fenomeno dei drop-out (DO) - quei giovani che interrompono il percorso scolastico e formativo rendendosi invisibili agli operatori del sociale - nell'ottica di un loro reinserimento nei contesti formali di istruzione, formazione ed impiego. Nel paper viene sviluppata un'analisi territoriale dell'area del Comune di Ercolano tesa ad indagare la domanda e l'offerta di servizi di orientamento e formazione, oltre alla visibilita' e all'accessibilita' degli stessi, attraverso l'utilizzo di dati statistici e indicatori di tipo qualitativo

Choosers or losers? Progression from school to lifelong learning in the UK

This paper discusses the relationship between secondary schools and life-long learning as provided by Further Education (FE) colleges in the UK. It argues that this relationship is often problematic, both as a result of prevailing market ideology and of historically-grounded discourses about the relative status of the two sectors. The paper questions the notion that learners transferring to FE a t 16 are exercising a real 'choice'; but also draws attention to evidence that significant numbers of them nevertheless find FE a more engaging and rewarding experience than school

Bridges between people: nonverbal mediation in an intercultural perspective and training proposals

Starting from the meaning of terms prejudices and mediation, the paper will deal with the theme of “intercultural mediation”, discussing aspects that characterize it, focusing on the non-verbal and creative elements. It will than reflect upon the necessary professional skills and on possible trainings through the body-artistic language (focusing on dance-movement therapy methodology), drawing inspiration from training experiences with professionals who face emergency situations within very complex social contexts. Why "should we"? A well-grounded argument for refugee acceptance and integration

L'attuale e inedito arrivo nell'UE di migranti e richiedenti asilo in fuga da paesi devastati dalla guerra ha creato un intenso dibattito sull'obbligo e l'opportunità di accettarli e integrarli nelle nostre società. Tra preoccupazioni umanitarie e convenienza politica, e al di là della retorica dei media, è possibile argomentare a favore dell'accettazione e dell'integrazione sulla base di un solido processo di analisi e valutazione dei dati. Questo articolo si propone di presentare e discutere le evidenze provenienti da ricerche che suggeriscono che dovremmo sostenere l'accettazione e l'integrazione dei rifugiati nell'Unione europea, nel suo complesso, e in Italia in particolare. Dopo aver descritto i principali eventi recenti riguardanti la crisi migratoria dell'UE, vengono esaminate una serie di questioni chiave: le dimensioni reali dei flussi, la minaccia alla sicurezza, gli obblighi derivanti dal diritto internazionale, il rapporto costi-benefici e, infine, l'importanza educativa della diversità culturaleThe current unprecedented influx of migrants and asylum seekers fleeing from war-torn countries into the EU has created an intense debate on the obligation and opportunity to accept and integrate them in our societies. Between humanitarian concerns and political convenience, and beyond the rhetoric of the media, it is possible to argue in favour of acceptance and integration based on a sound process of data analysis and assessment. This article aims to present and discuss evidence from research that suggests we should support acceptance and integration of refugees in the EU, as a whole, and in Italy specifically. After describing the main recent events concerning the EU migration crisis, a number of key issues are investigated: the real dimensions of the influx, the security threat, the obligations deriving from international law, the cost-benefit ratio and, finally, the educational importance of cultural diversity

Instructional planning and new technologies in teacher education: the initial phase of a research project

The purpose of this work is to present the initial phase of a research project focused on the integration of technologies in the education of kindergarten and primary school student teachers through instructional planning. Firstly, we illustrate a tool designed for planning integrated learning units and describe the training path in which it was used. Secondly, we report the results of a preliminary study conducted with 96 students attending a university course that investigates two personal traits considered as prerequisites for using the tool: perceived proficiency in technology use, and opinions on the importance of each constituent element of the tool. With regard to both traits, some statistically significant variations emerged. The results obtained are an encouragement to continue the research project to verify whether the tool could be suitable to help student teachers develop an integrated planning procedure
