Understanding the usage of Mobile Payment Systems- the impact of personality on the continuance usage

    Get PDF
Payment convenience has benefited from the revolution in mobile technologies. M-payment users, however, seem inconsistent in their payment activity, resisting change from traditional payment methods. Ensuring consumer continuance of m-payment technology usage is critical to ensuring the ubiquity of m-payment solutions. Although research has examined the influence of individual difference on the acceptance of m-payment, most studies fail to consider whether ongoing acceptance is maintained by the user, or whether a change in perception occurs as a result of use. Moreover, current studies consider user demographic profiles to segment mobile users, yet this dismisses the impact of individual difference, e.g. personality or cognitive style. This paper proposes a model that can be used to investigate the impact of individual difference on user perception of m-payment systems. The Expectation Confirmation Model (ECM) and Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT2) model factors (i.e. effort expectancy, performance expectancy, social influence, facilitating condition, habit, hedonic motivation, price value, trust and perceived risk) allow capture of data relating to two use perceptions; pre- and post-usage perception. The proposed model allows capture and comparison of pre-usage expectation and post-usage beliefs, allowing consideration of perception variance as a result of technology use. This model will be applied to gain a deeper insight into how to address users’ satisfaction, acceptance, and continuance usage of Near Field Communication m-payment technologies

A Process Virtualization Theory Approach to Understanding the Usage Continuance of Cross-Channel Instant Messaging

Increasingly, we are witnessing the advent of IM software on mobile devices for users to communicate with other users who are using either the desktop or mobile channel. The emergence of such cross-channel instant messaging (CCIM) demands a renewed understanding of users’ continuance behaviours. In this research-in-progress paper, we draw upon the process virtualization theory perspective to extend the expectation-confirmation model for IT (ECM-IT). According to PVT, we propose that users’ confirmation of using the virtualized CCIM is determined by the communication process’s dimensions of sensory, synchronism, relationship, and identification & control. In addition, we propose that the extent to which the communication dyads make mutual adaptation to one another will moderate the relationship between confirmation and perceived usefulness of CCIM. We expect our findings to make theoretical contributions to the domain of research on IT usage post-adoption behaviours as well as managerial implications to CCIM application developers and other stakeholders in the mobile industry

This study investigates gender differences issue regarding the effect of platform characteristics on trust and continuance intention in the context of mobile payment. Drawing upon innovation diffusion and trust theory, a research model is developed to examine four significant antecedents of trust for male and female users. An empirical survey was conducted and 740 valid questionnaires were collected from users of Alipay and Wechat pay, which are recognized as two leading mobile payment platforms in China. Structural equation modelling analysis results suggest that security is the most significant antecedent of customers’ trust, followed by platform reputation, mobility and customization. Specifically, a multi-group analysis results indicate that mobility and reputation have more significant influence on trust for males, while customization and security are more important in promoting trust for females. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed in the final section

The main objective of this study is to investigate factors that can predict adoption of ebanking in Nigeria. Specifically, it aims at investigating mediating influences of esatisfaction, e-trust and hedonic motivation on the relationship between e-banking adoption and its other determinants. The motivation of this study is driven by the inconsistent findings in the literature with respect to the relationships between e-banking adoption and its determinants: perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, perceived security and facilitating condition. In line with the inconsistencies, various suggestions have emerged pointing to the need to investigate the possible mediating variables that could explain the inconsistencies. For that purpose, this study employed theories of Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), Universal Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) and Social Exchange theory to synchronize the possible relationships among the variables in the conceptual framework. Survey questionnaire was advocated and the questionnaires were distributed randomly to 382 customers of four major banks in Nigeria. Out of 291 returned questionnaires, 266 were useable for analysis. PLS-SEM was used to analyze both direct and indirect relationships among the variables of the study. The results reveal that perceived usefulness, perceived security, perceived ease of use, facilitating condition, and awareness are positive determinants of e-banking adoption, e-satisfaction, hedonic motivation and e-trust accordingly with an exception of perceived usefulness that does not determine e-trust. The study also found that e-satisfaction; e-trust and hedonic motivation mediate the relationship between perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, perceived security and facilitating conditions and e-banking adoption. Finally, managerial, policy and theoretical implications as well as directions for future research are discussed in this paper

The purpose of this paper is to establish and assess the determinants of users’ willingness to use mobile payment: an empirical study in Tongren University, China. After conducting a rigorous literature review with theoretical underpinning, this research has come up with the proper methodology to move forward. According to the comprehensive guideline, the total number of Tongren College and Tongren Vocational College is more than 38,000, so the minimum sample is finally determined to be 380. Besides, after conducting Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), the measuring modelling was done by taking into account all the variables concurrently in order to verify the appropriateness of the overall model. All the hypotheses of this study have been tested through the application of SEM. For the overall model as a whole, the statistical result indicates a good fit. From the model, it can be seen that all the variables uphold a positive value. Findings revealed that perceived performance risk perceived financial risk and perceived privacy risk have substantial positive impacts on acceptance intention of mobile payment. Therefore, since a myriad of factors decides the attitude toward mobile payment use, further studies can also be developed by adding more constructs in the theoretical model in this paper.  Article visualizations

This study explores the impact of service quality dimensions (website design, reliability, responsiveness, trust, personalization, perceived risk and perceived cognitive control), information quality dimensions (content usefulness and content adequacy) and system - quality dimensions (ease of use, accessibility, interactivity and perceived website innovativeness) on overall perceived service quality, customer satisfaction and behavioral intention. Based on existing literature, a conceptual model was developed. The SERVQUAL model and the Information system theories were used to explicate the relationship among the variables in the conceptual model. Using a survey research design, a sample of 618 university students and staff was drawn through simple random sampling. Combinations of inferential and descriptive statistics were performed assisted by the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) and Partial Least Square (PLS). The outcomes of this study show that responsiveness, content usefulness, content adequacy, ease of use, interactivity, and perceived website innovativeness have significant positive relationships with overall service quality. However, website design, reliability, trust, personalization and perceived risk do not have significant relationships with overall service quality. Similarly, and as expected, overall service quality significantly influences satisfaction while satisfaction positively influences the behavioral intention of mobile commerce customers in Jordan. As for policy and managerial recommendations, it is important that managers lay more emphasis on those factors that can make customers perceive the website of m-commerce to be of high quality as this will eventually affect their satisfaction and future behavioral intentions. Similarly, m-commerce service policy-makers should come up with policies that will enhance the nature of services being rendered, and that will bring greater benefits to the customers. Additionally, the policymakers should endeavour to position m-commerce in the minds of customers in such a way that it will bring about the intention to repeat patronage in the future. Finally, directions for future research are discussed

Peoples‟ expectations regarding how financial services are delivered is becoming increasingly demanding. One of these already formed assumptions is related to always being able to perform instant money transfers. In Portugal, the app MB WAY allows every user to make these instant money transfers free of charge. However, a fee is going to be implemented per transaction with the value depending on the bank of the user. The purpose of this research was to conclude if people are indeed willing to start paying for the same service that was once free and if so, how much and in what price scheme. Bank loyalty and the loyalty towards the app itself were also tested. Tests were also made regarding price predictors and willingness to purchase the app, but no major indicators were found to be significant. Primary data was obtained through a questionnaire that provided 319 valid responses from app users. The results have shown that users are not yet willing to accept the prices that maybe are going to be charged, as they view them as being overpriced. Despite that, the impact caused by the app is not sufficient to alter their bank loyalty, although the study suggests that the respondents are receptive to changing apps if a cheaper option is available. Due to the fact that it provides the consumer perspective about this matter, the present research may contribute to how banks assess the possible price setting of instant money transfers in the near future.
